Ahhhh thank you Oto! I've been wondering about Bordeaux comparisons for threeeee years. This was helpful. I do like the hue of the Bordeaux more on it's own, but I mix more purple's and greens than I do oranges so I'd probably be wise to go with the violet instead, though neither is on my main palette at the moment!
I miss watching the paint go on the page. I hope that's not gone for good!!! Thanks for all the videos in the series so far. I absolutely love the scientific precision with which you compare.
So hard to choose between the two, but with smaller palettes there's really no need for both! I think I would pick the quin violet, for the violets it mixes :) Thanks for the thorough comparison!
I have to give the nod to Quin Violet for its glazing, transparency and because it mixes better with cooler colors. I so appreciate the methodical way in which you go about testing pigments. It really helped me to make the best choice for my palette.
Oh hey, I wouldn’t have thought to compare these two! I use bourdeux all the time since it was one of the first like....20 colors I bought all at once when I decided to dive head first into Daniel Smith. =>.
I happen to own both (I didn't realise they were so similar at the time), and I prefer the transparancy and glazing with Quin Violet. Makes it more versatile for my purposes. I also prefer Quin Violet for mixing - the Bordeaux feels more like a colour to be used on its own.
Thanks for another awesome comparison! I love this series so much. I love the quin. violet, but the Schmincke one is more pinkish, the bordeaux on the other hand I don't have, but it's beautiful. It's so rich and reminds me of royal cloaks used centuries ago.
That was a great comparison - I think I like the Bourdeux I never thought of getting that color before. I don't have Quin Violet either, I do have 2 other PV19 colors. I find it so interesting that the same pigment can look so different - I have Schmenke Ruby Red and Daniel Smith Quin Rose... I recently purchased Daniel Smith Naphthamide Maroon PR171. Talk about addicted, now I need to add Bourdeaux! lol... Thank you for your videos.
Took me forever to watch this video. I have Bordeaux because that's what was available in the selection that I bought, and I love it. And even after seeing how the Quin Violet mixes with the cooler colours, I still liked the colours that the Bordeaux mixed better and that's how I've been using it, with cooler colours. I think unless I desperately needed to mix some cleaner colours for a commission, I wouldn't worry about buying the Quin Violet.
Thank you again for this series! Love it! I have Quin Violet, but now I may have to consider the Bordeaux....hmmm! So many fun colors...I think I’m a bit addicted! 😁🤣
On my screen your samples look red leaning toward rose. I have swatched these colors today and they are both clearly a warm violet, not red at all. What am I doing wrong?
My recent purchase of Bordeaux was underwhelming... I tried to use it on Arches paper and it was so dull.... I tried to build it up... still dries very dull... I finally got angry and literally placed color on paper straight from tube - thick. those parts are bright and the moment it hits even a little water - it dulls.... I do not see the same in your test - which makes me wonder if this is my paper or just a bad batch from Daniel Smith.... was so hopeful for this color and so disappointed....
are you using bottled water? i have to where we live & it makes a big difference but i do not (yet) have bordeaux so i cannot say for sure that i would with that as well.
My DS Quin Violet looks nothing like yours. Mine is more mauve/purplish looking. Yours look far more on the red side. Very strange. They look like two totally different colours.
So happy that you pointed out the Bordeaux/Ultramrine Blue mix. I'm loving it, too.

So glad this cleared it all up for you :D For what you use it for, the quin violet sounds like the better choice for you.
I love the mixes with the ultramarine blue -they're amazing!
Me too, they were really beautiful!

Same. :(

Thanks for the thorough comparison!
You are so welcome! I agree, you don't need both for most palettes :)

I need both. I love the mixes they both make. I am thinking I should make a warm and cool pallet
Oh hey, I wouldn’t have thought to compare these two! I use bourdeux all the time since it was one of the first like....20 colors I bought all at once when I decided to dive head first into Daniel Smith. =>.
Me too. Bordeaux kinda stole my heart when I saw it. So now I've ended up with both on my palette!
For color pallet for my art I would lean towards the Bordeaux though I currently don’t have either of these colors in my pallet yet
What an amazing video and comparison. WOW! Thank you so much for this video!!
Love your videos! I love Bordeaux it is one of my top top favorite colors. Now I also need Quin Violet!!
This information was very useful, and I feel like I learned something about mixing cool versus mixing warm colors. Thank you.

simply from the light fast view the quin violet but i am attracted to the shimmer look of the bordeaux mix with the perm. green.... TFS
The bordeaux is hard to ignore! :)

Yes! It's exactly that. Rich, expensive, sumptuous color.
That was a great comparison - I think I like the Bourdeux I never thought of getting that color before. I don't have Quin Violet either, I do have 2 other PV19 colors. lol so glad this video opened you up to Bordeaux. It's such a gorgeous color :D
Wonderful comparison of the two hues. I prefer the Bordeaux.
good choice!!

I know what you mean Amy. Bordeaux just has this presence that the Quin Violet lacks.
Could you do a comparison between Pérylene violet Daniel Smith and Pérylene violet in Winsor and Newton? I can’t make up my mind
Could you please do Burnt Umber vs. Transparent Brown Oxide ?
Thank you again for this series! Love it! I have Quin Violet, but now I may have to consider the Bordeaux....hmmm! So many fun colors...I think I’m a bit addicted! 😁🤣
Warning, Bordeaux has a tendency to steal people's hearts when they see it! 😂
😂🤣 I can totally see that! Sooo pretty!🤣😁
Thanks for the comparison.
You are so welcome :D Thanks for watching!
4 minutes and I clicked so fast!! I so look forward to these!! And turns out I was first comment which never happens; even sweeter!
lmao you were so fast! Thank you for watching the video :D
I love quin violet! There is such a richness and depth to it.
Great choice!
I would get Bordeaux!
Bordeaux + Oto PB29 😍😍😍 thanks for the review!
you're very welcome :D
Will you do the Quin Gold vs Quin Gold Deep?
Or a new Quin Gold vs old Quin Gold.
Oh, that Bordeaux is pretty! Never seen it before 😊
Bordeaux is soooooo lovely. I always enjoy painting with it. Hope you give it a go.
On my screen your samples look red leaning toward rose. I have swatched these colors today and they are both clearly a warm violet, not red at all. What am I doing wrong?
Bordeaux only comes in the 15 ml. I wonder why...
Quin violet would be my pick at this time. But who knows in six months.
Nearly impossible choice, but I thinks its Quin Violet! Angela Mills.

@@crystalinedreams6039 I have very bad water too.. For this reason, I use distilled water for my mixes
Both.

You are right! Not much difference.
Glad you agree! :)
