  • Michael Zähl presents his console AM1 and especially the CV-channel that was developed together with Mark Verbos. Mark Ernestus has also played an important part in the developmentof this very special analog mixing console. His way of working with analog consoles shaped the concept of the AM1.
Apologies for the audio problems with the microphone.

Presentation on audio interface with horrendous audio littered with artifacts, can't hear what Mark is saying over the synth. Still, I appreciate the video.

Its funny how man behind basic channel with less is more approach goes to opposite direction and searches for overcomplicated solutions for problems that don't exist. Want to modulate mixer parameters? Just use a DAW. One of the worst tech demo ever.

At first: not everyone is a presentation/seller guy. But beside that just because of the possibilities inside DAW, I would also prefer analog signal routing and modulating essential parameters, without having to deal with modular cable-managment. Therefore it's an high-end analog approach and shouldn't be compared with a digital DAW.

It’s designed around his workflow, which is in the analog domain
And basic channel isn’t exactly less is more for its own sake. Things like sonic fidelity are placed on a higher pedestal than cluttering up the mix with nonsense. Try making basic channel-sounding stuff on a daw and watch it fall flat on its face. They were extremely particular, down to using an unbalanced mixer with custom Mogami cabling throughout the whole studio. Less is not more. Doing something right is more.

@@fl7210 It's 2021 not 2010 and you can make everything in the box. What you need is just knowledge. Mark haven't released anything good or memorable past 20 years. It looks like typical middle age crisis. So instead on focusing on creativity he invents not existing problems and try to solve them. I'm not against gear, but this is just rich mans toys and nothing more.

@@meskisable Again, remake BC's sound in the DAW, then we'll talk

@@kw1ksh0t Butthurt fanboys are the worst. There is nothing special about BC sound. Actualy it's a myth that it was produced using hi end quipment. If you listen to them on high end stereo their releases sound like shit. Their technique wasn't even their own, but classic reggae dub mixing. They were the first who used it for techno. What BC had was their style and the fact that they were pionners in this genre. This plus nostalgia makes them classic and sound the way it is. Few years back there was EP released(4tracks) by some dude that nailed BC sound 100%. At first glace I thought it was unreleased BC record. If I have time maybe I will find a link among my favorites and post there. Nowadays you can produce any sound or genre in the box. What you need is not gear, but creativity and knowledge.
