You know what nobody ever talks about? Kossoff's fantastic rhythm style and bad-ass riffs. I guess his tone and vibrato overshadow that shit.
Totally agree , Kossoff was an absolute beast of a rhythm player and was so deep in the pocket it's silly .
I agree about the rhythm stuff. Some of his chord voicings are really interesting and the progressions are great.
Kossoff is such an underrated guitarist in my opinion but "All Right Now" is such an awesome song
Whenever I go into those top 50 guitarists of all time lists I can't believe he isn't on the list, or if he is he's n the 40's. His sound is unique and instantly recognisable. A true guitar virtuoso.
Kossoff, Rhoads, Hendrix and Kath are four greats that we have precious little works to enjoy, but they're absolutely incredible.
Allman too
Danny Olsen Definitely!
Kossoff and Randy died on the same month and day, 6years apart. Eerie.
And they were the same age (25) 😳
Rare and wonderful explanation of technique, avoiding jargon and just getting the sound, fabulous! And you are right, Kossof was Great!
you can hear how he influenced Angus Young...great!
Absolutely correct. I think Malcolm was influenced a lot by Free too more from a riff and feel perspective. There’s a bit of Zep there as well - the riff from Back In Black being obvious. I’ve always thought the lighter side of AC/DC wasn’t a million miles away from Free and I’m surprised how little people pick up on that.
Spot on!
That vibrator sound in Angus' solos is unmistakable
And see. They act the same on stage.
I love his sound
Kossoff kills...thanks for this.
great lesson, and great playing. Did a great job capturing that unique sound of Kossoff's vibrato! nice job.
This guy is a fantastic teacher/player! Great work Reverb!
Check out his band, The Steepwater Band.
the iconic black strat with maple fretboard of Dave Murray from Iron Maiden (used during the 80's) was originally owned by Kossoff who sold it to Dave before he died.
I think he'd promised it to Dave Murray but passed before the transaction could be made. I might be wrong but I think Dave Murray went to see Paul's father David who agreed to let the guitar go to Murray who then had to go to Paul's then girlfriend's flat to pick up the guitar. I'm pretty sure it's he white Strat from the cover of Backstreet Crawler that Dave Murray painted black
Thanks I was.looking for that. Good job.
A fantastic player. Thanks for the video.
Excellent tutorial! Very nicely explained
Just thank you!
Thanks. God bless n rock on
I call that The Stingy Vibrato, it was done tastefully by blues masters since the dawn of electric guitar. But beware, if done incorrectly it can sound like Hammet's so be careful fellow guitarists
Hahaha😛👌
Thank you so much
I taught myself the kossoff vibrato before I actually taught myself chords or scales and I can tell right away when someone's got it, you are the closest Ive heard so far on youtube
It's not easy. I started only learning guitar 5 years ago in my late 40s.
I can't shaken that fast.
I get chills by it.
You Really emulate the players perfectly.
Mitch Hedberg is alive and plays a Les Paul Custom!
Dude. Great lessons.
Great vid , thank you
Jeff always "Talks a little bit about" My favorite guitar players.
Thank you.
Please do some lessons on Robin Trower :-)
Love Jeff's videos, always very informative. Any chance of a Mick Ronson vid?
Would love a Mick Ronson!
spwstrat ditto on the Ronson vid
Please do this!!!!
YESSSSSS!
My favorite guitar work of Paul is The Hunter...any live version..
Good call, but I'd go with "Time Away"
@@jacko717 That whole album is insane. I love the transition from the opening track to Tuesday Morning. Damn and what about Long Way Down to the Top and Molten Gold. So good. So sad. :(
Along with his vibrato, his use of full sounding chords and rhythm playing. The opening A chord He uses all 4 fingers. I can't name the true chord, but I can play it, lol. He was ahead of his time for sure.
The vibrato is very similar to Danny kirwan I think
Yes
Danny was a fine player!
Too bad you didn’t have a 58 or 59 Reissue,
70s Gibson’s are awful , Free should be in the
Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, great that you brought attention to Paul
Or the 59 in the background...
Honestly love these videos! Always god to learn from the legends. Maybe try expanding it past the blues greats? Some Johnny Marr arpeggios or Josh Homme riffs? That might help get some of the younger cats tuning in
Frank Concepcion yes!
i had the speed at 0.75 and thought this man was stoned
What gauge strings you using? Koss used 12’s
Mitch Hedberg!
when koss played he could cut steel with his notes
The riffage of matt pike video? Do it!
Was Kossoff originally a violin player?
No. He trained as a classical guitar player first.
One doesnt simply learn fast vibrato.
RIP Paul Kossoff, died too early ;(
i remember seeing his signature les paul that was second hand in my music store and it was £11,000+
Paul and Danny kirwins vibrato are very similar
BB king kinda vibrato
sound like 8 bit
i saw this dude in the walking dead, but with short hair
Juan_RockGuitar Terminus 🤣
Good try,but at the end of the day sounds nothing like him.No lead up to the essential note to vibrato with emotion.wrong tone, wrong attitude.Anybody can fly round the fingerboard big deal.but the heart and soul of a true musician comes through in the nuances.. and you can instantly feel it.
Thats 1 UGLY Guitar, Kossoff Vibrato, yes please!
Sorry, no. Nice lesson but the vibrato isn't even close.
Listen to Paul's solo on "Fire & Water (studio live)" here on youtube ...his vibrato oscillates like no other (Angus Young has a similar vibrato occasionally )
not as sharp as koss
Who is?
For real Koss prob top 3 all time
The whole point of this video is the vibrato - but he doesn’t devote one second to explaining how to do it!!! What?!?
Funny to watch someone try to imitate Koss. Always embarrassing.
