Gr8 vid as usual. I bought a 2023 Bolt EV LT and the steering wheel was rather plain. So, I got a black leather steering wheel cover with a small center red stripe at the top and covered the wheel. It looks gr8. 🚗🇺🇸🔌⚡

Great video with detailed Instructions. Maybe just throw a safety disclaimer as the airbag thing is dangerous. Suggest to disconnect 12V battery before starting work.

ALWAYS disconnect the 12v battery when working with Airbags. *ALWAYS!!!* It could accidentally go off.
That said....coming from a Premier BoltEV Owner those steering wheels get really plastic like after a year or so. That is not leather....it is a fake leather material.

I came close to buying the basic model, but I also hated that cheap urethane steering wheel. I ended up paying the extra money for one with the comfort pkg.
Another issue is the speakers, they are crap. I'll be replacing mine soon.

I did this same basic thing a couple years ago with my 2021 Chevy Malibu 1LT. The deal at the time was too good to pass, so I figured I could live with that base wheel. Nope. So a month after getting it, I ordered the correct leather wrapped wheel and had one of the mechanics I know replace it for $20. I think the leather wheel cost me about $175. Worth every penny IMO.

Part number shows as Blazer EV wheel. $200 special order, will take 2+ weeks to get.
Great addition if you dislike the original wheel.
I am limited $ wise so if I will spend that much I would rather do the front lightbar.
Original wheel doesn't bother me too much and wouldn't get to enjoy it with coming cold weather as I will be driving with gloves for the next 3 to 4 months, so maybe by summer I can swap the wheel if I feel the need.

Tyler, when someone orders the upgrade for heated seats/steering wheel, is the leather wheel included ? I like the base LT1 model however I would prefer the options of the heated wheel and seats , plus the motorized electric seats. My '20 Bolt does not have electric seats.

Power seats are not necessary. Manual is just fine. Never understood why people do not realize that.

Just curious did you try the heat function on the wheel to see if it might work. Or did you research and know the vehicle definitely has different harnesses.
Nice upgrade the price was very reasonable.

I'm also curious. If the heating hardware is already in the wheel, and the switch is there, is it just a matter of getting power run to the wheel to turn on the heating element? Seems worthwhile to do that, rather than taking the effort of switching out button panels.

@@DaivG It is most likely already there. Most manufacturers do not set up different cars because the cost to build and maintain separate stock it too high. The issue now (like the Ford Maverick guys have figured out) is to hook up an OBDII scanner/programmer and change the parameter to turn the function on. I am patiently watching as It will not take too long for someone to do this. The car is still relatively low volume so as more get out there , one of the people who can code them will post a video.

Also curious. I upgraded to a heated steering wheel on a Honda and all it needed was the clock spring with the heated steering wheel harness and the heated steering wheel itself. Curious if that is all you need on this Equinox

I haven’t felt the “naked” wheel, but I’m an outlier in that I prefer unwrapped steering wheels. I drive for a living and deep-cleaning leather doesn’t result in the same level of cleanliness as cleaning an unwrapped wheel.

Crazy that Chevy has a different car wiring harness just for models with or without steering wheel heat. Most other makers that I know just have one master car harness and don't plug certain features into it.

That plastic wheel will outlast the cheap chinesium leather crap. You will find out when the dye on the leather starts getting on your hands and gloves and the stitching starts to fray. Give it a year or two.

How much does the replacement steering wheel cost…?
    Wouldn’t this void the warranty…?

You regard the steering wheel on your Equinox LT to be the worst you've ever felt. Have you driven a stock American car built between 1960 and 1980? I have felt that the hard plastic steering wheel on these cars is the worst I've ever seen. I wonder how your Equinox's tiller compares.

So, on a normal car the battery should be disconnected to avoid bag from going off accidentally. How does that work on an EV

    • @stephenellis3430

EV’s still have an accessory battery normally 12v lead acid like an ice car you can disconnect this before SRS work. The latest EV now use lithium accessory battery’s and many are now higher voyages like 48v but are much smaller and lighter than lead acid and save space.

@@stephenellis3430 The CT is the only one with the 48v battery. The supply chain in the auto industry is still 12v based - that is not changing any time soon.
