At the time of independence, Pakistan officially constituted provinces of E. Bengal, Sindh & W. Punjab only. Kalat (Baluchistan) had become independent on 11th August, 1947. Chief Commissioner’s Province of Baluchistan (CCPB) - which constituted northern 1/3 of Baluchistan was taken on lease by Britain from Khan of Kalat in 1883 on annual rent of Rs.25,000. CCPB was not returned back by Britain to Kalat but Gilgit which was taken on lease from J&K in 1935 for 60 yr. lease was cleverly returned back to J&K in August, 1947 ( After J&K's IOA with India on 26th Oct, 1947, Major Brown of Gilgit Garrison organized rebellion of Gilgit Scouts to prize away this front-line garrison of Peshawar base from J&K to give it Pakistan as Jinnah had promised Peshawar base for anti-Soviet surveillance). On 20th July, 1947 Frontier Province was incorporated into Pakistan by sham referendum prizing it away from Afghanistan. At the time of its independence on 15th August, 1947, Pakistan was handed over CCPB. Britain had defense treaties with sovereign states of Nepal, Bhutan & Kalat (Balochistan) who had Protectorate status. Kalat became independent on 11th August, 1947. After partition of British India, the treaty-responsibilities fell on the successor states of India & Pakistan. India fulfilled its responsibility towards Nepal & Bhutan. Pakistan instead of giving back CCPB to Kalat or renegotiating lease terms of CCPB with Khan of Kalat, forcibly & illegally annexed both CCPB & Kalat on 27th March, 1948. Kharan, Makran and Lasbela were minor states under Suzerainty of Kalat. Pakistan infiltrated its army into Kalat's suzerainty states Kharan, Makran and Lasbela forcing them to sign separate accession agreements which was illegal & finally forcibly & illegally annexed both CCPB & Kalat on 27th March, 1948. Until 1958 Gwadar was an overseas possession of Oman, but on 8 September 1958 it was also stealthily & illegally occupied by Pakistan. Oman then agreed to sell its former Gwadar enclave to Pakistan for a price of 5.5 billion rupees, with effect from 8 December 1958.

The most potent threat now is the deadly mix of Baloch, Jivay Sindh, Sindhudesh, Mohajirs of Karachi and some ETIM elements operating out of Afghanistan against China. The other threat is the political movement inside Sindh with PPP slowly tilting towards sindhi nationalism. Pasthuns especially the fata waziristan too are being integrated into larger Pasthun movement that links Afghans and Pakistani pathans. Hazara shias, Gilgiti shias too have been waiting for their share of rights. For long Shias in Pakistan (20% of popln) have been marginalised .. this faultline is very big and can spilt pakistan vertically. Once Chinese settlements increase in Balochistan, it ll complicate the social fabric and create deeper divisions. India need not do anything!

It is impossible for Balochistan to be free . Pakistan is a strong state yes it had it's fault lines but it is United by a solid ideology of Islamic Ummat. Ian sure India will break up in near future but Pakistan may exist.
Pakistan seems united to outside world due to Islamic bond. But that bond has reached its breaking point due to sectarian divide, economic imbalance and growth of terror power centers. India on the other hand seems too diverse from outside... but what binds India is its Culture. Culture is always a more powerful bond than religion. Pakistanis will never accept this truth until they see Bangladesh style vertical split.

Balochistan was an independent country that Pakistan colonized in 1947 and its mineral resources has been exploited by Islamabad ever since.
