Thanks! It's Meguiars Ultimate Compound and I used Sonax Plastic Restorer in the trim, I also popped it in the description 👍 Agreed, the solid paint polished up so nice as well, just a shame they seem to fade just as quick! But hopefully a good paste wax out of a tin will preserve her for a while
I have fallen in love with volvo and 740-745 after watching many of your videos. I just have to have one. good job with the polish. I hope you continue to make many videos in the future.
The amount of times I pressed the button on the boot to put my schoolbag in each morning and afternoon with my dear old Mum behind the wheel... I can still feel and hear it. I very much miss both car and driver..
I have a very similar story. Used to love the half hour drive to the school bus stop. My dad would drop me and carry on to work. Volvo had such comfy seats and i hated getting out of the nice warm car. Great memories
The paint transformation looks amazing. Always nice to see the saloon version. Even though I have always had estate 240, 740 and 940 really like the saloon lines.
I ABSOLUTELY loved watching this video. What a wonderful transformation. I remember my uncle Harry driving me up to the north east in his old Volvo around 30 years ago.
Well done, what a good result, I was thinking ‘is he really going to hand polish all of it?’ Glad sanity prevailed and you found a way to machine polish the paint safely. Always like a good detailing transformation video. 👍 Did that bumper rejuvenator product leave any streaks?
Thanks! It was a little bit streaky especially on the wing mirrors as the surface was so smooth, so I wiped it with a cloth to even it out. But overall it gave the best finish on rougher plastics like the door trim
She's cleaned up really well great job , and theres nothing wrong with using a polisher as even by hand your removing layers of clear coat but youll get a better finish
I love the fact that you saved Verra! The paint looks amazing after that polish! Could you please give us some more details about the welding? How did it go? Was it hard to do? Was it expensive? I want to know about it so i can make myself an ideea about what's waiting for me with Hamburg (my 93' Volvo 940). Looking forward to the welding info and more Volvo thinkering clips! Lovely job! Cheers!
She's gorgeous!!! What compound did you use on the paint? I've Always used Mother's Back to Black for the trim but I think I'll try this for a change on the rocker panels. Thanks!
Big result! Really! That bumper job makes a difference doesn't it! What a lovely car it turned out to be! I am not a big fan of the 740 sedan, because of that "american" back side, but looking at it now it grows on me!!! I drive a 97 V90...
@chrishart8548 yes, the one with the smooth 3 litre 6 inline... it shares the shape of a 940 but is different. It started out as a 960, but Volvo changed it's name to V90 in 97 and 98 and gave it a face-lift. Only 5000 were ever built...
Our first Volvo was an end of life G reg 740 estate with fold up kiddies seats. Good car. Next an 850 in white. I t cut and waxed it and it gleamed. Probably the best car I have ever owned and it had a lovely growl from the engine. Then a V70 diesel in red, gorgeous car and ace caravan tug. Kids grown and gone so I had a Citroen C1 while my wife stuck with Volvos. I have a V40 now, which is a bit… hmm … so so and my wife has a XC40 hybrid which is horrid. Oh, I forgot about my ace but flawed S60 dual fuel. I need to find another 850.
Looking good! That drill method sure was satisfying 😅i recon you could swap an earlier set of square tail lights and a 940 front end and make a bootleg 760 🤔
Me and a friend polished my 850 with Megs Ultimate Compound a few years ago and my Mercury a year ago. Sadly the good looks don't last particularly well in the spots done by hand. The results are fast because the wax in it hides the oxidation well, but the machine polishing is kinda required for the shine to stay, oxidation needs to be buffed off.

Every time you use rubbing compound (which all these are) you lose some of the paint - note how his cloth has a blue stain on it.
For people who live in Germany and maybe don't know it. Washing a car with soap at home without a certified oil separator will result in a fine of between 1,500 euros and up to 50,000 euros. Alternatively, imprisonment. That's not a joke, it's the law in Germany.
Looks absolutely fantastic after you're done! Also hold up, is that black stuff you're using on the bumpers rebranded shoe shine? Just kidding, but the thing is, I actually used black shoe shine to pep up the bumper and door trims on my 740. Seems to stick pretty well, and still looks very good even though its been a few months. Keep up the great videos! :)
Plastic bumper bars surface can be restored by using a heat gun or even a gas torch played gently over the surface. Do not know the technical details of the chemical composition of high heat applied to plastic bumpers, but it restores them to original colour.
how long does polytrol last ? I've got a 1sr gen BMW MINI and i love it but the plastic trims are always fading, would be looking for a permanent solution that doesn't need done every month.
Beautiful result, Sledge! What kind of Meguiars is that stuff you used?
These basic spec Volvo's look so good in a solid paint colour ❤

Your mum is still with you always 💗
@@XclusiveAaron Absolutely. God bless you, mate.
@@WhiskyMonsta Great memories indeed and I can absolutely relate to yours!
Nice Sledge, the way these Volvo single stage paints can come back to life is a thing of beauty.
Oh what a beauty she is! 🤩 Great job, Sledge!
Fantastic work Sledge, it really came up a treat. I love it!
Cheers!
Came over from your brother's channel to see how the final clean and polish turned out. Shiny, shiny, looks great.
The paint transformation looks amazing. Always nice to see the saloon version. Even though I have always had estate 240, 740 and 940 really like the saloon lines.
wow, what a transformation, she looks amazing
Oh mate, what a transformation. Unbelievable. Top job 👍🏻
Wow what a great job you have done 👏👏
I’m so glad to see you saved this one. This blue is one of my favourite colours in the Volvo models of the era. And it’s not metallic!!!!
The satisfaction when you can step back and admire your work! She's a beaut.
Thanks for the tip, my 940 bumpers need that stuff
👍
Fantastic job.
Total respect doing this by hand your a brave man 👌🏻
Respect you did all that by hand instead of using a Maschine ! The result is awesome mate ! Pls never stop rescuing the neglected ones 😍
Superb job, what a turnaround!
Lovely color. A lot of work, but worth it! Bumpers look great too.
I ABSOLUTELY loved watching this video. What a wonderful transformation. I remember my uncle Harry driving me up to the north east in his old Volvo around 30 years ago.

Great transformation! A good coat of wax will stop the oxidization for a good while.
Straight car, came out lovely 👍

I put the products in the description but it was Meguiars Ultimate Compound. I've never used Mother's products but heard great things about them 😃
@ oh gosh my bad. Thank you for telling me here! Looking forward to your content every week!
Genuinely great video, saving it for ideas for when i eventually polish my 340 once the british weather improves
She's beautiful m8!
Atlantic Blue was a pain on my old 740, this has turned out so well dude!
She has turned out beautiful. Have you considerded a ceramic coating to keep that shine? You can use it on plastic bumpers and trim too.
I've never tried it but people do say great things about it
What a beautiful transformation! You do great work!

I drive a 97 V90...
Is that the V90 knowone really new about bit like a 940 with bigger smoother bumpers
@chrishart8548 yes, the one with the smooth 3 litre 6 inline... it shares the shape of a 940 but is different. It started out as a 960, but Volvo changed it's name to V90 in 97 and 98 and gave it a face-lift. Only 5000 were ever built...
@@fretlessfender I should have said 960. I've only ever seen 2 in my life. I like the 740 estate around an G reg.
@chrishart8548 Yes they are quite rare and with low milage they are still very expensive. Mine has 410.000 km behind it...
I used heat gun on my 740 bumpers, worked really well
Wow looks like a different car. Great job ❤
Nice jobs 😉👍👍🇩🇰🎄
Put some nice all season tyres on it and you have a great all round car 💪🏼😃👌
Amazing
Looks like new mate great job
Great video, the image was blurry on the black applicator; which one is it?
Ooops, Sonax Plastic Restorer 👍
looks very nice
Volvo. 4 life!
Looks wonderful now. Does that black stuff you used on the bumpers leave a sticky residue or does it become completely dry?
Glad to see a new upload :D
I know you probably been busy with the wife and new baby; nothing wrong with having your priorities straight. Godspeed

What was that product for the bumpers?

I admire the massive effort hand polishing but get yourself a machine polisher, far better results and half the effort. Lovely car

What happened to the red and rusty Volvo 740 with the stuck engine? I hope you break it free.
Hello, how much is the price of a Volvo 740 engine piston, size 89 mm?
Its an 90 s but really brautiful
Just sad because bumpers on a 90 s 740 are menant to be more gray
product descriptions are helpful in this industry of snake oil.
In the words of you Brits, "Brilliant"!
A one step polish never can give a perfect result. Next time, use less polish and let the maschine run longer. But it is nice.
