The Sun Newspaper + Telegraph both wrote: ‘’Swindon man beats The Mountain to Europe's Strongest Man title’
The underdog story was so popular, even Mike Tyson retweeted it, and praised the much smaller Swindon-based Dad
Well, Laurence Shahlaei, aka Big Loz, stepped up to the impossible task.
BUT this contest looked finished British star Eddie Hall pulled out after Event 1
Hall was 1 of 2 favourites for the 2016 title, but Hall’s deadlift of 500kg in event 1 totally exhausted him and he pulled out.
This meant the main Favourite + 2 x European Champion - Hafthor Julius Bjornsson was left in an almost unbeatable position.
Despite his power and size he had a points lead from the deadlift and there were just 4 events to go.
What happened next was a shock for many.
This is one of the most epic performances in strongman.
BIG LOZ (or even UNCLE LOZ nowadays) hadn't won his National title for 3 years,
Shahlaei was giving up 7 inches and 50 kilos (110 lbs) to the Icelandic and twice European Champion.
Thor - as he is often known - stands 6 foot 9 inches tall and at that time weighed in at over 420lbs

When Loz says “someone’s got to dethrone the mountain”, I got goose bumps. Big Loz has always been able to flick the switch bring on the intensity and go. And when he said that, you knew it was game on. What great memories captured forever. I hope Big Loz watches this.

Such a tremendous night. It's one of those wins by consistency and determination and legendary given the absolutely stunning power and prowess of Hafthor Bjornsson. Likely the most naturally gifted strongman ever. Got to love Loz.
Hafthor won the title 5 times - this was one stumble in a phenomenal winning streak at the Europe's

I recall watching replays of the WSM from the very beginning in the 90s. My mother and I would watch them whenever they came on and we both were impressed by Bill Kazmaier. Thankfully UA-cam gives us access to all of them and much more

Loz May of never won WSM but ESM is a prestigious show and beating Thor and winning the show must have been good enough to hang the hat on
Agree. 8 years of his prime were won by Brian and Biz Z, and no shame in losing to the 2 greatest strongmen of all time.

Hey Giants Live, love to see that heavier set of stones in this older competition. I see that despite going up to 200kg, many of those athletes hit that last stone. I think the bar has just risen from there, so it makes sense just to keep putting that heavier set in, like in the upcoming Strongman Classic for example. We just need to see that heavier set in there.

sadly we dont own those IFSA shows - im not sure who is the copyright holder to be totally honest. After that business went under I guess its the producer who then owns the copyright of the tv shows (I guess)

Strongman really needs to showcase the athletes personas more. Literally guarantee they can gain fans they never imagined if they would televise that more. The records are amazing but it's the personality of these individuals that shows the world something they never expected.
This sport deserves all the fans in the world. You want athletes to look up to. I know of no other sport moreso that shows this.
Finally!!!! Rename is and have Big Loz name in the title please!
Hafthor's record isn't even close to indicative of what he became. NO strongman in history had the year of near absolute dominance that Hafthor had. (when you compare the competition)
I understand why he bowed out of competition......but holy shit, he still had the ability to get stronger.
Edit: Really annoys me that youtube determines that due to me being american I need closed captions.....it annoys me and yet it makes sense.....sadly.

How did Bjornsson and Arsjö tie, when Bjornsson was a point ahead going into the stones and he beat Arsjö on the stones? Should've been 39.5 points to 37.5.
Was the graphic wrong, after the car walk? Arsjö should've been 29.5 and Bjornsson 28.5, instead of the other way around, like it was shown.

@@Colestamper1 because he won only one international competition his entire career and never even made the podium at the Arnold Classic which is the heaviest contest and determines the actual world's strongest man that being said Big Z winning 6 in a row and 8 overall is the strongest man to ever walk the 🌎
