    The show's release is definitely a big deal. In Pakistan they're showing the entire thing in theaters as a three-part movie, since you still can't access Disney+ there.
    I'm looking forward to this, as with any other MCU show. Every single one of them could bring something new to the table, I'm sure it won't be any different with Ms. Marvel.

    Honestly, if people of all ages, races, and genders can connect (and have been asked to connect) with characters like Bruce Wayne or Peter Parker, there is no reason that people who have seen themselves reflected on screen all their lives can't connect with this or other shows starring marginalized groups. You don't have to be resigned to "it's not for me." Try it, you might be surprised.

    A 39 year old White Guy review is fine with me! LOL 😂 I'M A 40 PLUS YEAR OLD BLACK GUY FROM THE INNER CITY AND MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IS WANDA MAXIMOFF AKA THE SCARLET WITCH! She and I don't exactly have a lot in common on the outside but I just like her character. it's not about race or gender or even age at the end of the day, it's about relatability. Whether you've been bitten by a radioactive spider, taking a super soldier serum, or you discover you're a cosmic witch: it's about relatability. I really hope this young protagonist isn’t subjected to the kind of over the top negativity that the Captain Marvel movie inspired. Fans absolutely have the right to voice their discontent with a film but thanks to the anonymity of the Internet and the overall toxicity we seem to have devolved to as a society, some people try to gain clout by attacking performers. I often hear that the toxicity is only from a very small portion of the fandom and I agree…but when it’s such a large fandom and those toxic voices are so loud, it can be scary and demoralizing. I wish this young actor the best as she steps into such a bright spotlight. With this opportunity, she’s already accomplished so much more than many other people quite a bit older than her and she deserves some grace if her performance isn’t on par with seasoned actors who have had decades to hone their craft or if the writing isn’t what fans hoped or expected.

    What Dan said about perspective is basically what Brie Larson said about a Wrinkle in Time. Unfortunately, that kicked off a domino of hate that still happens today.

    • @yadonkno3320
      @yadonkno3320 2 роки тому +16

      I agree, my issue with what he and Brie Larson said is that if the only reason you connect with a character is because they look like you, they're probably not that good of a character.
      I almost like what Brie said more as she was saying we need more diverse opinions in the critic sphere, but all she did was make fun of "white dudes" for having an opinion on a movie, with the narrow minded idea the movie isn't for them therefore their opinion.. doesn't matter?
      Good kids movies should be accessible to anyone, not just the kids they're for. If you make it only accessible to young girls that's completely fine, those movies should exist too. But if you have to be in that demographic to like it then it probably deserves a C or a D.. unless Brie Larson is saying that 6-15 year old kids should start reviewing movies?

    • @DanMurrellMovies
      @DanMurrellMovies  2 роки тому +40

      Hmmm…isn’t that an interesting coincidence?

    • @fromomelastocarcosa3575
      @fromomelastocarcosa3575 2 роки тому +9

      One of the biggest ironies of the hate spewed against Brie Larson was that she herself had recently been IN the exact type of film she described that had received a mis-diagnosis by the critical mass due to the demographics involved - Scott Pilgrim V The World: a film that was widely adored by the niche target audience (that happened to include almost all critics and online commentators) but that had very limited appeal outside of that target audience due to its (relatively) unlikable characters, thus making it a "surprise" box office failure and a film that to this day is loudly claimed to be a masterpiece by its target audience and a heavy meh to its non-target audience.
      She had seen first hand that a relative mono-audience making up film criticism could get film evaluation wrong based on demographics.

    Interesting how men perceive movies/shows with teen female characters for girls only, but movies about teen male character such as Spiderman are for everyone. Like women are meant to automatically empathise with male coming of age experience, but it’s beyond man’s capacity to be able to have interest or empathy to relate to a female’s coming of age experience, unless it’s heavily sexualised.

    I think I'm officially burnt out on MCU. I only watched Dr Strange because Wnda is my fave after Steve Roger's, and I'll watch Thor because Chris Hemsworth did something special with that role in Ragnarok and subsequent appearances. And Loki was pretty good, so basically anything with the previous crowd I'll watch but 10 years of story was more than enough for me. Hopefully another generation will enjoy their 10 years...

    Thanks for this review, Dan! I think a lot of people will have bizarre complaints about how "cutesy" or "teen" this show is when it's honestly a perfect example of "Dude, this show wasn't made for you." I had that realization when I watched the trailer and first thought "What the fuck is this?" Then I went "Oh right. This is obviously for much younger people." That said, I'm still going to give an episode or two a go, just out of curiosity.

    What a wonderful show so far.😊
    Are people really hating on this? Are they not watching the same thing I’m watching? If you’re calling this series “woke,” you’re just dumb. People other than straight white males exist, and every series needs to be made for us. Other people deserve shows and characters like them.
    Imagine being a small African American boy who has only ever seen middle-age white guys as superheroes. Then, you watch Spiderverse and see Miles Morales, the hero of the story (and an amazing one at that). Wouldn’t that make you feel so special? Like even YOU, a small, young black boy- YOU can be a hero too.

    Man, it's refreshing to find a review of a Marvel show or movie with a female lead that is just a genuine review and not a giant funnel into right-wing lunacy and misogyny. Like the bar is so low anyone should be able to step over it, yet it somehow trips up like 90% of youtubers. The very mention of Captain Marvel or Brie Larson is enough to cause most of them to froth at the mouth with rage, but this man's like "yeah it wasn't the best, but it was ok". So with that, I'll go give Ms. Marvel a watch (I was putting it off as I was kinda annoyed that they replaced her cool stretchy powers for generic hard-light construct powers a la Green Lantern).

    • @DanMurrellMovies

      Look at the views on anything angry directed at Brie Larson/Captain Marvel, then look at the views on this - it becomes very obvious why so many UA-camrs froth at the mouth when Brie Larson is mentioned. It's a click generator, which means it's a money generator, and has been for years now.

I almost exclusively watched American and a few British TV shows and movies. If I could relate to that, why can't you white people ever relate to us, see us as normal human beings with the same hopes and needs as you? Also in this case they aren't just Pakistani, they are Pakistani-AMERICAN.
