It's Malaysia's own decision to have a territorial tax system and not charge for offshore income. If you live in Malaysia you're already paying the value added tax on local purchases, plus property tax on your residence (either directly or via a landlord). Not to mention, if you get this visa you'll be paying an upfront fee for the visa (the functional equivalent of a tax), and helping to capitalize the banking system with your fixed deposit. And most participants are likely spending more in the local economy, at least on a per day basis while in the country, than the average Malaysian, not only creating jobs via the demand side but also, again, paying that VAT. So relax, dude. Malaysia is getting paid. There's a reason, after all, that the government introduced this programme.
Probably attractice considering South East Asia is probablly the most stabile. The country is also geopolitically neutral. Malaysia can make a good base.
Malaysia is simply fantastic. I would pick Malaysia over Thailand in a heartbeat and I’ve lived in the LOS for a long time . Penang is so much more live able than many of the spots in LOS. Malaysia is slower good for oldies , they speak English , don’t underestimate the importance of a chat . They have pavements and great buses . The scenery is stunning and the weather is perfect . It just feels homely. Just my two cents worth . And Malaysians are genuinely friendly and helpful .

That's my impression too. I've visited both several times and lived in BKK for 8 months. Malaysian cities (KL, Penang) are more modern and the cost of living is significantly lower even in KL. And of course you're right, for English speakers its a huge difference.
M'sia offers good human capital, good infrastructures, good international tertiary education & situated at the heart of South East Asia. Couple with it's abundance of natural resources & cheap currency then M'sia is a good bargain for the profesional, business owners even the retirees to live & make more money.
Im european, living in Kuala Lumpur (married to local). And I agree with those people who claim that many things has changed and that "they do not want us here any more". And we should all understand that "They" doesn't represent regular people, but authorities and immigration. It's quite hostile out here towards forigners since new goverment took over a while ago.

On a broader sense, multi-racial Malaysia is among the tops for a residence permit. English is widely spoken(most important), has very good infrastructure and transport in the form of buses, taxis, trains, planes to every corner of the country including small towns (unlike the United KIngdom), tons of white sand beaches, islands and rainforest mountains. A very safe country to live with cheap living costs from rents, food, cars (compared to sky high living Singapore). Malaysia is truly Asia where the three major cultures (Malay, Chinese, Indian) are all here !
Agree with you 100%. Visited Penang Island atleast 5/6 times in the last 10 years. Love the country, the people are very respectful, nice, peaceful and helpful. The infrastructure is pretty decent, low cost clean homes for a little premium and still way cheaper. cant beat it only down side hot sticky weather.

A warning if the low ( presently zero) tax rate on foreign income is influencing your decision, last year, under pressure from the US this income was going to be taxed. Rates up to 23% were talked about but seemed to settle on 5%. In the end a 5 year exemption was agreed but still the threat lingers if you are looking at a 20 year time frame.
The fact that foreigners can purchase freehold in Malaysia makes me think I should just buy property directly instead of going through one of their programs. One wouldn't obtain the status to open bank accounts etc., but a western passport would entitle you to a 90 day stay - good for a trifecta setup. I think the programs are great for tax planning though.
There are minimum purchase prices for buying property; rent is low so you won’t get your money back by renting it out, and worst of all, good luck selling it.
use a Labuan structure to hold a Malaysian property. best route so far! - you get a property in peaceful asian country, a 2 year residence and work permit (renewable), can open bank accounts in Singapore and Malaysia for you and your Labuan company and 0-3% taxes depends on how you structure your company. Boom, you get almost all the benefits without any of the downsides.
If MM2H didn't make sense, consider SMM2H from Sarawak, for 50 yrs old and up, either $7K Ringgit retirement monthly income or $150K Ringgit deposit in the Ma. bank, stay 15 days in Sarawak yearly, then you can reside in West Malaysia the rest of the year. Portugal has a D7 visa that is less stringent on income requirement, and no deposit in the bank. Just show a proof of passive income of about 900 USD per person and 1600 USD for family of 2. with a clean criminal record you get a permanent resident status. You can't work though and it is meant for mainly retirees although there is no lower age limit for that. I would prefer Portugal over Malaysia but the housing and cost of living will be more than Malaysia for sure. You will have a European life style and access to all EU countries in a few hours if you are fond of travel and exploring Europe

Traffic is awful, food sucks, public transport sucks, you're stuck in little bubbles because Manila is like 30% slums with only 3 nice areas that are culturally void corporate run cities. The provinces are seriously neglected in terms of infrastructure. Malls are boring. Guards walk around with sub machine guns. There's no public Wifi at any coffee shops. Everything takes forever. Cost of living is higher than Bangkok and about the same as KL. The islands are nice but what SEA country doesn't have nice islands and beaches? Coworking spaces suck, hotels are 5x more than Thailand and the quality isn't there. It's an extremely low trust society. If you want to take your TV out your apartment you need a gate pass and receipts to prove your aren't stealing it from the owner. The way people drive is fking stupid. Saw three traffic fatalities in one day. All can be avoided by staying in BGC, but that's not necessary in KL or Bangkok or Hanoi where there's a minimum standard the cities hold themselves to. IMO the only reason to go to Philippines is if you want to take advantage of Asia's cheapest wages, get your dick wet, or you really can't live without an English speaking population. Maybe if you don't need to work and want to go live on a beach somewhere it makes sense but if you are looking for excitement, culture, and a better quality of live avoid at all costs. So many better countries.
And everywhere you go you hear: "Not available sir, out of stock sir". Or can you go for a walk at night? May by in BGC or IT-Park anywhere else it is either dangerous or there will be a crowd of people running after you screaming "give me money". And the noise pollusion? - it is just crazy: loud music and karaoke 24/7 everywhere and there is nothing you can do about. And does it bother you men urinating in public? What is that - they successfully banned smoking in public but urinating in front of everybody is seems ok and normal in PH? And the list goes on and on. So no - Thank you.
My home has been in Manila for over 10 years - my experience is; 1. "out of stock' - sometimes, but in Manila and large cities they are well supplied with most things foreigners need. 2. "Dangerous' - I walk around at night regularly in most areas and have no problems - I would say safer than Western night areas. 3. Noise pollution "everywhere' - not true; yes if you live near a karaoke bar or near roosters/dogs, but I don't have any problem where I live. 4. Urinating - in some areas esp at night it does happen, but I don't see it often - they do need more public lavatories - but rarely see it where I live. 5. "Beggars' - only in some areas, and even then, what's the problem - give or don't give - up to you. You seem to focus on and magnify a few problem issues; I think the friendly/hospitable locals, great malls, beautiful Islands, English usage and cheap costs of living outweigh any negatives. Cheers.

Malaysia broke a commitment in made in December to not change policy on money remitted to Malaysia from abroad. They said in December they would not change that policy for another 5 years - but then they went and did so and even BACKDATED the change to January 1st. So all you high earners thinking of coming to Malaysia - don’t be fooled. Don’t get stung. The money you make overseas and send to Malaysia for living on will all now be taxed at 30%.

Video suggestion...single man perspective. I'm 65 healthy, single, no kids, no close family. I recently started to think about a will. I don't really have any place for my assets to go. The state? I've also been researching other countries mostly for the adventure of living in a new place. I've never minded paying taxes, just look for value. Buying, leasing land is top of my list. Being single I have the option to marry a local which opens many immigration and land acquisition options. I'd find a video on options marriage can open.

I was an expat here and I moved to Singapore which is much better. Malaysia MM2H is a disaster with policy changing every other year and they can't stick to a proper plan. If you plan to go to Malaysia and start a new company, you will find it rather hard and with their bumiputera rules of wanting 51% of your business, you are in for a surprise. meaning that a local partner is required with 51% given free to the Malays. So think twice before thinking that Malaysia is good

Many Islamic countries have laws prohibiting Israelis from entering or limiting it. I remember travelling through the middle east and when leaving Tel Aviv I was eventually going to Egypt. They actually asked me if I didnt want them to stamp my passport as it could lead to issues getting into Egypt. This was 15 years ago. There is always a threat. So far, any proposed future tax could be avoided or dramatically reduced with proper planning.

Not surprisingly, this new 20 year long visa program is attracting almost nobody to Malaysia. I hope they modernize their visa programs.
The fact that foreigners can purchase freehold in Malaysia makes me think I should just buy property directly instead of going through one of their programs. One wouldn't obtain the status to open bank accounts etc., but a western passport would entitle you to a 90 day stay - good for a trifecta setup. I think the programs are great for tax planning though.
There are minimum purchase prices for buying property; rent is low so you won’t get your money back by renting it out, and worst of all, good luck selling it.

If MM2H didn't make sense, consider SMM2H from Sarawak, for 50 yrs old and up, either $7K Ringgit retirement monthly income or $150K Ringgit deposit in the Ma. bank, stay 15 days in Sarawak yearly, then you can reside in West Malaysia the rest of the year. By the way, Kuching, Sarawak in East Ma. is a friendly city too.
S-MM2H Sarawak has since changed its requirements, now 30 days minimum per year .

Portugal has a D7 visa that is less stringent on income requirement, and no deposit in the bank. Just show a proof of passive income of about 900 USD per person and 1600 USD for family of 2. with a clean criminal record you get a permanent resident status. You can't work though and it is meant for mainly retirees although there is no lower age limit for that. I would prefer Portugal over Malaysia but the housing and cost of living will be more than Malaysia for sure. You will have a European life style and access to all EU countries in a few hours if you are fond of travel and exploring Europe
secondly, the tax rate is very low if you do all your business/employment using your Labuan Offshore entity

There is no way I would treat someone who works with me that closely in that fashion. Andrew stay successful but keep your humanity towards others because that’s what makes your character. As with any such program, it's best to get in early.
What about mentioning Philippines - Retirement program is great. - Max deposit required only USD 20,000 and only 10k option too, (lasts forever and no income requirement, just annual fee about USD360), tax friendly, English speaking, beautiful Islands and very friendly people, and cheap. Can't own land but can own condo - which I do. And the malls - huge and modern.

@@trueseeker262 You get what you pay for. Philippines is a super meh country. The expats are old and crusty sex tourists. Traffic is awful, food sucks, public transport sucks, you're stuck in little bubbles because Manila is like 30% slums with only 3 nice areas that are culturally void corporate run cities. The provinces are seriously neglected in terms of infrastructure. Malls are boring. Guards walk around with sub machine guns. There's no public Wifi at any coffee shops. Everything takes forever. Cost of living is higher than Bangkok and about the same as KL. The islands are nice but what SEA country doesn't have nice islands and beaches? Coworking spaces suck, hotels are 5x more than Thailand and the quality isn't there. It's an extremely low trust society. If you want to take your TV out your apartment you need a gate pass and receipts to prove your aren't stealing it from the owner. The way people drive is fking stupid. Saw three traffic fatalities in one day. All can be avoided by staying in BGC, but that's not necessary in KL or Bangkok or Hanoi where there's a minimum standard the cities hold themselves to. IMO the only reason to go to Philippines is if you want to take advantage of Asia's cheapest wages, get your dick wet, or you really can't live without an English speaking population. Maybe if you don't need to work and want to go live on a beach somewhere it makes sense but if you are looking for excitement, culture, and a better quality of live avoid at all costs. So many better countries.
And everywhere you go you hear: "Not available sir, out of stock sir".
Or can you go for a walk at night? May by in BGC or IT-Park anywhere else it is either dangerous or there will be a crowd of people running after you screaming "give me money".
And the noise pollusion? - it is just crazy: loud music and karaoke 24/7 everywhere and there is nothing you can do about.
And does it bother you men urinating in public? What is that - they successfully banned smoking in public but urinating in front of everybody is seems ok and normal in PH?
And the list goes on and on.

My home has been in Manila for over 10 years - my experience is;
1. "out of stock' - sometimes, but in Manila and large cities they are well supplied with most things foreigners need.
2. "Dangerous' - I walk around at night regularly in most areas and have no problems - I would say safer than Western night areas.
3. Noise pollution "everywhere' - not true; yes if you live near a karaoke bar or near roosters/dogs, but I don't have any problem where I live.
4. Urinating - in some areas esp at night it does happen, but I don't see it often - they do need more public lavatories - but rarely see it where I live.
5. "Beggars' - only in some areas, and even then, what's the problem - give or don't give - up to you.
You seem to focus on and magnify a few problem issues; I think the friendly/hospitable locals, great malls, beautiful Islands, English usage and cheap costs of living outweigh any negatives. Cheers.

Andrew said Malaysia is a low tax country. Well for expats with a dual tax agreement it was. But in July a big change came. Malaysia broke a commitment in made in December to not change policy on money remitted to Malaysia from abroad. They said in December they would not change that policy for another 5 years - but then they went and did so and even BACKDATED the change to January 1st.
So all you high earners thinking of coming to Malaysia - don’t be fooled. Don’t get stung. The money you make overseas and send to Malaysia for living on will all now be taxed at 30%.

Andrew...Thailand seems hell bent on attracting long term expat residents. They are copying the PVIP as much as possible and tweaking these premium visa programmes for the wealth based individuals. Malaysia still seems to be the leader currently in asia but there is now a strong competition between thailand and malaysia.

Video suggestion...single man perspective. I'm 65 healthy, single, no kids, no close family. I recently started to think about a will. I don't really have any place for my assets to go. The state? I've also been researching other countries mostly for the adventure of living in a new place. I've never minded paying taxes, just look for value. Buying, leasing land is top of my list. Being single I have the option to marry a local which opens many immigration and land acquisition options. I'd find a video on options marriage can open.

I am happy to hear about this, and I looked at properties and they have a variety of real estate to buy that are so affordable compared to where I am in Norway. The only bad thing is animal immigration, and I only see a few countries like Sweden is exempt from a 7 day quarantine… I would love to bring my small dog but having a 7 day quarantine is too much.
I looked at the immigration website but I see Norway is on the list of the countries the animal needs a quarantine. Does anybody know this? If my dog can enter the country without this I am moving there… otherwise it is definitely a no.

You presented Dubai but then started talking about Saudi Arabia. You are of course aware they are two very different Countries and I doubt that Saudi Arabia has any kind of residency programme. I was an expat here and I moved to Singapore which is much better. Malaysia MM2H is a disaster with policy changing every other year and they can't stick to a proper plan. If you plan to go to Malaysia and start a new company, you will find it rather hard and with their bumiputera rules of wanting 51% of your business, you are in for a surprise. meaning that a local partner is required with 51% given free to the Malays. So think twice before thinking that Malaysia is good

Many Islamic countries have laws prohibiting Israelis from entering or limiting it. I remember travelling through the middle east and when leaving Tel Aviv I was eventually going to Egypt. They actually asked me if I didnt want them to stamp my passport as it could lead to issues getting into Egypt. This was 15 years ago.
