Directed by Wes Ball, The Maze Runner is a 2014 sci-fi thriller based on the young-adult novel of the same name by James Dashner.
While often compared to other popular young-adult adaptations like The Hunger Games and Divergent, The Maze Runner is decidedly grimmer, painting a bleak picture of survival as teens endure the many hardships of being trapped in a grove surrounded by a massive stone maze.
In addition to dwindling food supplies and tensions between survivors, the group must contend with fiendish monstrosities known as The Grievers, which guard the ever-shifting maze.

I’ve always been confused why they didn’t just use the Grievers to kill the infected zombies. They’re basically unstoppable and most likely immune because they’re not human. In the books they literally have saw blades in their backs that sawd through like 20 survivors in the first books last epic fight

    • @gojistopmotionguy8171
      @gojistopmotionguy8171 Рік тому +10

Exactly. And then once all of the current zombies were killed, then they could make a cure

Wicked proves time and time again that they aren't looking for easy options. Theyre the ones who released the flare virus onto the world. They'd still have to find a cure because the flare spread so quickly everybody got it. The only way someone would be able to survive is if they're completely cut off from the outside world, like the maze, or if they're immune.

It's funny comparing the movie Grievers to the book Grievers which are described as slow moving slugs with spikes and saw arms. Obviously the movie versions need to be more cinematic and fast, but the book versions do their job well since they're always moving towards you and you can't do anything about it.

I love Wes Ball's short, "Ruin." Always wanted to see a full movie or show built around it. As for the Maze Runner movies and books, I kept on getting the nagging feeling that both had a better story lurking between the reels (dating myself here) and pages. And the maze itself seemed an incredibly complex and maintenance-heavy creation for a post-apocalyptic world to create. But the movies were entertaining enough, and Ball directs decent action.

This was the first book i signed out of my highschool library when i started grade 9, 2 years later i heard the movie was being made and I was skeptical about it living up to the book.
But when it came out i was blown away how even the characters were EXACTLY as i imagined them, even the greivers, which i had trouble visualizing are perfect and i see the description fitting now.
I just still cant get over how well the characters fit, Thomas Sangster who played Newt was the only actor i knew from when i read the book and i actually put his face over the description of Newt, it was a total mind bender actually seeing him on screen as Newt lol
(I cant remember if Newt had a British accent in the book, but I'm sure I imagined it)

Imagine the Grievers vs. the White Spikes (The Tomorrow War) or The Death Angels (A Quiet Place), interesting Fight/Battles! The Plot Twist Story could be that one of the Teens manages to escape the maze and promises the teens still in there that he will figure a way to stop the Griever. He travels to another Dimension, being The Tomorrow War, right when Chris Pratt and his daughter captured the Queen White Spike. He asks if he can have it after they create a Kill-Virus, and they agree, he also travels to the Quiet Place Universe right when the mother is about to shoot the Death Angel. He stops her and captures it. He returns to his universe and unleashes both the Caged Queen White Spike and the Alpha Death on the Grievers, and the battles last longer enough for the teens to escape!

My favourite part of the Grievers is that you never really get a good look at them. They're either in motion, shrouded in darkness or too close for you to see them fully. It puts you in the same seat as the characters. During all the years in the glade, they never saw the Grievers. They only heard them (hence why I think they named them Grievers, since when someone was killed by one, all they could hear in the glade was the roar). And then when they finally got to see the Grievers during their escape, they didn't have time to look at them because they were busy running. "Fear of the unknown" is a powerful tool in film making and I'm glad that so many directors understand that, for example, the directors of the Cloverfield trilogy, the 2014 Godzilla movie, Underwater, Banshee Chapter etc.

First I thought that was the main goal a hundred years ago, but everybody died & the system meaningless creates clones & follows the program of tests, and the monsters become self-aware, like animals, and try to break out, which should've been the main story, at least that's what I speculated.

Loved the book series, but I found that the movies, while good, diverged from how things were portrayed in the books.
On a side note, am I the only one that thinks Divergent is not a good book series? (I haven't watched the movies for it.)

Most of the teen-drama book series that jumped on the Harry Potter train are typically shitty re-tellings of existing stories and concepts.

The books were amazing, the first 3 anyways but changing the grievers completely ruined the boys overcoming the next obstacle and test in favor of a monster. Which was just silly. It was supposed to be able to be defeated by hand and skill, not from a random wall lol.

I really don't get the "Young Adult" science fiction subgenre. When I was a teen and a "young adult" we just consumed regular science fiction, you know, stuff that at least tried to make sense and was not just garbled nonsense about teens being abused by evil adults. I really don't see why this stuff appeals to young people now. It wouldn't have to me when I was young. We had the same problems back then, but didn't slip into this self pitying, whiny victimhood complex.

I agree, like yeah if the movie is good then I'll watch it but I'm not going to watch it just because it's a young adult movie.

@@zamppa3974 Yes. Back in the day movies just weren't that pandering. Star Wars for example wasn't a kids movie and wasn't a adult movie. It was for everyone and kids and adults could enjoy it together and the kids could learn something about the themes of the movie, about how adults interact with each other, about heroism and so on.
Now we have movies only for kids and movies only for teens and movies only for people in their 20s and so on and because those movies are so laser-focused on one age group, but are still made by older adults, they are lame and pandering. When rich, old movie producers and old novel writers who live as hermits in a lodge at a lake somewhere and have no contact to the teens and young adults they write for, produce books and movies and TV series for kids, teens and young adults, they just seem clumsy and weird to me.
"Teens are angsty and feel controlled and oppressed by adults, but their frontal brain lobes aren't fully developed yet and they have no experience, so they are naive and dumb, so lets sell them silly nonsense about teens being abused by all the adults around them. It doesn't have to make sense, just tickle their teenage instincts enough."
Seems to be the thinking and it is so pandering and cynical.
Of course, back in the day there were cartoons and books aimed at little kids too, but not so much special stuff for teens, outside of music. Teens were expected to learn and grow up and integrate themselves into the world of adults and were eager to do so, instead of wallowing in their "teenyness", so to say.
People criticize Millennials for not growing up and being whiny. Maybe this has something to do with it.

I never understood the Maze experiment. It's... entirely pointless, isn't it? You're spending massive amounts of resources and expending your immune population to do an incredibly inefficient behavioral study which carries a severe risk of loosing all participants to do what exactly? The same thing we do in Neuro labs in the present day?
And where is the control group to differentiate the different responses to stimuli? In fact, where are the controlled conditions that even allow you to make any meaningful observation whatsoever?
Am I thinking too much? Probably.
