Great to see Peter and his Komrades safely aboard Salyut 4! I'm sure it'll be valuable experience for the European crewed spaceflight program, even if he did botch the rendezvous :P
I mean you say that like they won't get bored and just charter a flight on a US reged space craft paid in their reaaseach data like they always do... Which rember Europe was leading the space race till they shuffered the world largest most devastating breain drain after WW2 that only spread across the globel since... Also any time they get close to a break though they give up and just leyt the US grab it's research ouyt of the trash bin then magane to do it in a matter of hours... Like sereouly Europe gave up on controller super sonic flight when they unlocked it on the tech tree in video game terms... Like despite the US having the most Super sonic flights to that date as it's way to easy for the P-51 mustang to go super sonic in a dive from it's service ceiling... Which by the way so can the super prop spitfires it's just they did it less as they had the abily for less of a time and were reteered to soon... Also the spitfire never had a need to cruise at it's service ceiling only using it's claim rate to intercept things not escort bombers and patrol like the Mustang always did... Not to mention modernday eurpe has a massive problem maintaining good reputains world leading tech companies much less having one main top HQed there for long... If it isn't a car brand that was buaght by VW the biggest most successful company in eurupe and if that dosn't make the Europain tech landscape look sorry you don't know the half of it... So yeah if Europe can some how compete in the space race race something it only did until WW2... It would likely give up and just let the US do it like it always has since at least WW1... But don't feel bad because the other compactors can etheir bearly space, Or have only sent rovers abnd landers to the moon... Or are not in the race but instead are srunning support for NASA as it races against Space X which in turn is held back by Musk. Who seems to be the sole cause of Space ship's insane failure rate and delay of almost a dacade ruining it's record from the falcon 9 and only seems to befit space X by being a figure head with an insanely large dire hard fan base... Which to be fair is the soile reason why anyone thinks BEV tech can be the worlds sole powersorce and by extension the sole reason telsa did not go bankraupt adacde ago after the Roadster... Because somehow while it makes more moeny on each car then the vast majority of products sans quick serve soft drinks... It somehow still hasn't made any money it's self... I guess it;'s because of shooting for the moon to settle for a paper airplane... But anyway if Space X is Nasa's Sole compaitor with any chance of winning.... Europe like China has no chance... Although China can win as it has a few rovers and landers on the moon now and a space station something only the US and the Soveit union has been able to do... So it can turn things around but it's so behind it isn't funny... Like Russia has a more solid third position because of what its and the soviet unions space program did... And just lets China be in the race and Russian is fine with just having US contracts for ISS resdents and the escape pod service...
The viking capsule is a concept vehicle when they were planning to have a rescue vehicle on ISS at all times. Part of ACRV (Assured crew rescue vehicle) project
I think it’s been on the black-duke/prince rockets since their second iteration with a hydrolox upper stage :p I’m roleplaying that the engines used were primarily developed in Canada (my head canon) I think they’re rolls Royce engines, but Canada having rl10’s kinda made sense to me :p
Congrats on the crewed orbit! I was holding out hope that someone in FAK might use the D-2 concept for lunar missions, because it's a really cool looking spacecraft and the parts included in RP-1 look amazing. Figured you could pretend that a salty GE sold the design to the ESA after getting snubbed.
Heh! I had some fun with the Viking capsules in a sandbox game: I repurposed it into a tiny lunar lander in an ESA-ized Gemini moon lander concept. Two launches, one an MRC on an Arianne 5, the other a translunar booster (IIRC, based around an RZ.20 "Black Anvil" hydrolox engine) with the lander wedged in a little "garage." Crew transfer was via EVA. I even messed around with using a packed inflatable airlock as a makeshift "stay-time extension module"-turning astronaut accommodations from "Houdini's milk can escape trick" sized into full-on refrigerator box sized, for advanced comfort. Fun times!
I'm pretty sure SSO isn't mean the satellite always see the sun, but mean its orbital plane's inclination drifts that it constently syncrinized with the sun.
Just an idea, what if you made a lunar version of the hermes spaceplane? Might be fun to differentiate yourself from the traditional soviet and american landers and capsules.
Yeah, the logistics of sending Hermes back from the moon would be a nightmare, could be possible but I’d probably have to have a lot of infrastructure in place to allow for that. Best way of doing it would be to slow down at earth, and yeah an extra 3k delta V is a lot for that :p
@@Carnasa Personally, the best way to get crew to the Moon would be to take inspiration from the Boldly Going alternate history timeline, and use a derivative of the BAe MRC
I know that this series is ending in the 1980's with the Mars Landings, but if you were to send a crewed spacecraft to Jupiter in this series, what would you call it?
Honestly no idea, probably after some historical figure, beagle2 was called so because of the hms beagle that took Darwin to the Galapagos, would probably take similar inspiration from that, maybe endeavour after cooks ship or similar
does anyone know how to get an RO RSS version like this and not the new version? I had to reinstall RO/ RSS because a powercut seemed to kill my entire game and I cant seem to find the old style KSP RO/RSS that I honestly prefer over the new version like in kerbal gets real redux. Is it not possible through CKAN anymore?

Good to see the ESA with it's own independent manned flight capability now. Truly a sign of the inevitable ESA victory in the Mars Race.

but isnt it a one crew vessel? there are usually multiple crew on the station right
@@therocketsciencekid yeah it's a part of a bigger study with larger vehicles as well. Hard to find information on it.
Yep-astronautix has a glimmer of some info on it (and some concept art), under their ESA ACRV article.
@@ranchoth eh, astronautix isn't usually a very reliable source but it does seem like it exists though
@@therocketsciencekid It's an excellent _starting_ point, like many other sources, with the due diligence of cross-checking to follow.
Teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and still spending money. A real mid-century British roleplay!
Hey, I never noticed Canada's flag before! Glad to see we had something to contribute 🇨🇦 Can't wait to see the first Canadian astronaut

@Carnasa Still super awesome 🔥
I bet Canada could use that Molniya orbit commsat

Fish so you are communicating via the Fishnet.

I am going to eat your communication system.

@@robertstuckey6407what happened last time?

New episode of kerbalkind! This time without bankruptcy! :)
This episode is actually the complete opposite of the last one in terms of money, ESA has really entered the game now
here we go again
i remember not knowing how to dock in KSP then randomly one day i just somehow had all of the RCS keys in my mind, HNJKL
And I :p but yeah I never use docking mode, I like to be able to orient and those keys with normal keys work fine for me haha

Finally new for all kerbalkind!
It hurts my Australian ears every time Carnasa try’s to pronounce Woomera lol
ARSE for the WIN

Hurray Beagle lives!
thank you for the new eppsode mate
got to watch and wake up for work
Missed chance to call it SunFISH

Surely it would have to be Discovery. Even though you would be 11-20 years too early in the 80’s.
Holy hell we are being spoiled
i thought this was a real proposed ship when i saw the thumbnail lol
