I tested how much weight effects electric karting lap times. To do this, I went to the track with 20 KG of ballast weight. In this video I do a side by side comparison of the race with extra weight and the race with normal weight.
I did a 65kg v 75kg v 85kg v 95kg experiment at an outdoor Karting track 👇

All indoor kart tracks seem to be electronic now. Would be interested in an in-depth electric kart tips break down
How far apart are the laps? Did the 65 test come first? Wondering about the impact of like track/tire temp here.
I think the point is in a low grip on this track.
High weight is more convenient in this case.
So, would me being 45kg at an indoor electric track be a disadvantage?
I think another two factors (for indoors) are, how grippy the track is (for example Teamsport Harlow has all the grip in the world and you almost have to fight the kart to get it to oversteer) and if there are more than 1 floor, because extra weight on an up ramp isn’t going to help you that’s for sure
Interesting... I'll try this out with my son. He and I are drastically different in weight but get similar lap times. I've never been to transport Harlow so that should be interesting too.
Hit the nail on the head. Try being 85/90kg going up the ramp at Teamsport Bristol. The difference between a heavier and lighter driver is like night and day.
@@JD-env1 If you think that’s bad, I was heavier than the rest of the Club100 Super Cadets by 14-15kg last year. It wasn’t a good year to say the least.
I would be interested in seeing ballast weight vs weighted vest.
That’s a great idea! Stay tuned for the video 😁
Electric looks interesting, but I think I would miss the smell and sound.
