Later on I added a Walbro 255 fuel pump from Summit Racing. I do recommend this upgrade, the stock won't hold up to the higher pressure forever. - Авто та транспорт

Great video it’s pretty informal than most outdated vids. Can’t wait to see some skid videos haha. I might do the turbo this summer just looking for an ecu so that I don’t blow it up trying to skid the truck haha

with obd2 you didnt have any issues with egr/emissions delete?
Does anybody know if pressure plate fingers are uneven The the vibration can cause the slave cylinder to leak Because jack hammering the push rod?😮😮😮
Very nice! How did you get the 4.3 hat to seal for boost? I grabbed one from the yard but the dia is just a little bigger than my KA's throttle housing.
Yeah mine is a little bit larger too, but with the rubber gasket from the KA's throttle body (id recommend a new one), as long as its centered, it is close enough to seal up.
Any noticeable increase in power? I'm on the fence of going megasquirt or just keeping it simple since I don't have intention of going over 10lbs / 200hp. Do you know if it's temperamental during cold starts or at altitude?
Yeah I'd say it was a noticable increase, it's not neck breaking but definitely more pep in boost. I haven't had any issues with cold starts, that said I haven't done a real cold, cold start yet since I finished it early spring. Also haven't taken it to anywhere with any real altitude so I don't have an answer there either, sorry.
Megasquirt is definitely the end game goal for me, but I'm happy with the low boost budget build as a starting point to build on.

Sick build dude. I really appreciate you taking the time to lay it all out for us. Now that some time has passed, any regrets? Are you still running the stock ECU? AFR still looking good?
Thanks man, happy to lay it out. I'm still on the stock ECU with the rising rate fuel pressure regulator and upgraded fuel pump, the AFR's stay plenty safe with that setup but it can sometimes be quirky, like the AFR's go up when engine braking, idk if that's normal. I'm sure it could make more power more efficiently with an aftermarket ECU but it is impressively good how it is.

question for you about your brake booster, did you have to change anything since the brake booster is made to run off vacuum not boost?
Just make sure it has a check valve to not get boost into it. You’ll blow it up. Other than that it will work like normal.
Question did you get the ecu custom tuned. Or is it all stock with the addition of a fuel pressure regulator thats boost referenced to add fuel. Are injectors stock?
It's has the stock tune, with the added boost reference fpr, stock injectors (for now), and it also now has a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump.

I didn't do anything too special, removed the S10 clip from underneath, used a paper plate to make a template of the Hardbody throttle body to transfer holes, drilled holes in the hat, used the Hardbody rubber gasket and wing nuts.
Great video and thanks. Quick question.. With the stock o2 sensor, what did you do in place of that? Did the wide band have a leg to feed the stock ecu or was it eliminated?
I eliminated the stock O2 sensor, I've been meaning to do some experimenting with adding it back in to see how it effects things. However it runs well with out it.

Good instructions. How’s long term going with the motor? Any issues? I love the blow off valve hissing when shifting. I kinda wanna do this.
The motor is still going strong, It ended up needing a stronger fuel pump to keep up with the higher pressure. Overall the setup is still good, it does have its quirks though. I need to make a follow up video and show how its going.

Vacuum lines need to be working for turbo or would it affect some type of way
Not all of them are necessary with emissons deleted, but yes if you have a vacuum leak it will run poorly.
I know you did not dyno. Is it fitted with stock clutch? And how does it feel when shifting before and after turbo installation. I'm trying to buy everything you should before adding more power and want to know how it feels driveablilitywise.
I left it on a stock clutch for a while, it probably wore it out a bit quicker trying to drift it but yeah it started to slip the clutch under boost. The stage 2 cheap ebay clutch in it now is holding the power nicely though and now that its broken in is still very streetable.
i have a 1998 frontier and i’m thinking about a turbo, but i’m not sure if hardbody parts will be compatible anyone know?
I believe your Frontier will have a ka24de engine, which will need a different exhaust turbo manifold or header to what I have on my ka24e. But honestly that's about the only vehicle specific part I bought for this. With the ka24de you'll be able to look at what the 240sx guys with ka24de's are using and follow their lead.

I think your auto would do just fine with this setup, I know there are slight differences in ecu's from the manual but I don't think that will matter.
Since it is your daily you will want to take some extra precautions to keep it reliable, primarily I would recommend upgrading your fuel pump and using a good quality FPR or if you use the one I did, put the good quality internals in it (there's a video on my channel for both of those). The main issues since going turbo that I've had were those 2 things. If you can afford it, the best way to keep the engine reliable and safe is a standalone ECU and a reputable shop to tune it, just throwing that out there, there are certainly risks to doing this sort of thing.
Definitely check on your timing chain, especially if it rattles, before you turbo it. Specifically the plastic part of the chain guide, I slid a new plastic guide through the valve cover on mine when I started on the turbo.
Also keep in mind that it's highly recommended, (especially with this extremely low tech tuning system), that you run 91-93 octane fuel. As a daily that may be a turn off for you.
Other than that, keep your turbo small (T28 size is ideal) and keep your boost low for reliability sake.
As far as increasing speed without the turbo, there's the basics: tune up (spark plugs and wires, dizzy cap and rotor, new fuel and air filters), cold air intake, less restrictive exhaust. Can't really go wrong there.
I've also heard of guys advancing the timing a little and running on 91-93 octane to gain a small amount of power. (Needs a timing light and some knowhow)
One other thing you could try is changing your rear gear set, idk what comes in the auto trucks but if you can find one of the higher ratio rear ends that will help acceleration.

@@jonsgarage2882 thanks for your advice bro..so I was doing the EGR delete and when I was trying to remove the pipe that goes between engine n firewall..I found out that my exhaust manifold is cracked badly...so I'm thinking it is the reason why I have lack of power and acceleration..what do you think? how did you figure all of this out? my stock motor is slow and id like to upgrade, but I have no experience.
Most of it I learned from the Local Losers 520 UA-cam channel, specifically their simple turbo series they did on their red truck. Stone Broke Garage has a great videos too that I learned from as well.

Yep seemed to, fit was great, little bit longer than the Nissan ones. Real easy to put in with the allen wrench. Local Losers 520 recommend these, they've run them for longer than me and haven't reported any issues.

These trucks already have a fuel return line back to the tank, I used that for the fpr return.

Thanks! Still on the stock ones, I'd upgrade them but the stocks seem to work just fine even up to 10lbs of boost.
You don’t need a ecu megasquirt? The only reason I haven’t done this it because they tell me I need an 800$ ecu and a tune
If you keep boost low (id say max 8psi) you can get away without a different ecu, just more fuel and fuel pressure. Its not as reliable and probably wont make the same power as a proper ecu would, but it does work.

Where did you get the manifold
I got it from ebay, but it's on Amazon and other sites too. The brand is Rev-9, if you search rev-9 ka24e turbo manifold it comes right up.

Neither, stock tune and ecu. I just run a higher flowing fuel pump with a boost reference fuel pressure regulator set higher than stock (about 50-55psi). It works okay, it's admittedly not the greatest performance one could get.
I might have missed it but are you using stock PCM or are you using megasquirt or nistune?
Yep stock pcm, the plan is to go Megasquirt in the future.

@@NipponSpeedWorks So it's on the stock tune, but the fuel pressure regulator that I have on it is an adjustable rising rate, and the fuel pump is higher flowing. So I'm using that to force more fuel during boost despite what the ecu is doing. I then verify that I have fuel pressure set correctly by watching the afr gauge, and it runs very well with this set up at low boost. I wouldn't trust it above 8psi.

Yeah I'd definitely say there's a noticable increase in power, I find I don't have to downshift for hills and to accelerate like I used to NA. So it's a more enjoyable drive. Off the line I can definitely feel the boost kick in, it's laggy as can be but definitely helps it out.
How much boost is it making?
5lb for now. I'll bump up to 8 with bigger injectors and fuel pump eventually, just to see what happens. Don't know if I'll take it higher than that or not

We found it was pretty happy where it was which should be stock at 10 degrees btdc. I've been meaning to put a light on it and see if it is still at 10.

Hey man awesome build, what AFR/Fuel pressure did you end up setting yours at? And after that, have you retarded your ignition timing any? I’m doing something similar to my hardbody, wanting to make sure it’s as safe and powerful as possible. Keep up the good work man
Links to both are in the description, it's an AEM X-series wideband O2 for afr, and an Osias FPR from Amazon. But I end up putting a genuine Aeromotive diaphragm in the the knock-off FPR, I have a video about it.
I did not change timing it's still at 10 degrees, seems happy there so I didn't mess with it.

How many psi of gas are you putting in? Did you leave the original fuel pump?!

@@jesusortega6997 I started with the stock fuel pump with close to 60psi, I now have a Walbro 255 fuel pump and have it set on 50psi fuel for 8psi of boost

You're probably right, the truck parts do better than you'd expect though, plus it's cheap. If I ever do a serious built ka I'll use an s13 ka.
@Jon's Garage not probably. It's been proven the S13 head on the truck block outperforms the truck head and manifolds. You can't run an s13 block cause the whole front sump/rear sump shit between the 2 but the head and extending the MAF wire and running a 240 ecu would work however with boost running megasquirt is probably the safest bet. Plus stand-alone ECUs give you more tunability. Your turbo ain't too big you just don't have the air movement to make it do its job efficiently. A cam will help that as well as a better flowing manifold such as the s13 ones. Even the xcessive one is great
