Agree with everything you said. DCT rules in this platform. It took me 2 months to decide if I wanna stick to Manual as most my cars have been manual or switch to DCT, and I gotta say after owning my DCT for a year now, that’s the best part of the car.
I love my DCT. It’s a learning curve but I wouldn’t trade it. It’s always people who never drove the DCT that give me bs about it or say the ZF is just as good. No. No it’s not LOL. Not performance wise at least. ZF8 is phenomenal. Still don’t give you the rawness and flexibility of the DCT. Manual is more fun but the DCT is the sweet spot. ZF is the economical answer.
I think a lot of people like me who own the car don't really track the car, so there is few opportunity to really learn how to properly drive/handle the car in a safe environment(not public road), e.g. traction control off, floor it etc. Definitely I will book some track sessions when weather turns warm. Nice video!
DCT FTW!!!. I love mine. Ha I always drive with traction control on. After watching this I will try it turned off. Its crazy how BMW engineered the DCT. Nice video man, I def need to get more comfortable with DSC off to exploit the car’s full potential. My fav part is how the DCT kicks you in the back when you upshift at full throttle, the ZF8 doesn’t do that either as you know.
The first half of this video was really informative. That’s some good insight as to how it works for new owners or people that haven’t experimented. Why do you prefer sport+ throttle over sport? Does engine mode matter when activating LC? I’d also note curb weight of a wet f80 dct is 3,6xx not 3,3xx.
Car must be in sport plus traction control full off for launch control. Also very quick stab to the floor with the brake on and you can adjust launch rpm with the cruise control buttons.
@@BlakesGarage yea, I think the g80 comp is even in the 3,9xx range. Very close to m8 weight. Regarding driving with tc off, how do you manage the 2-3 shift if you’re getting on it? Say you’re hammering an on ramp in 2nd and go to shift up to 3rd when it straightens out? Do you lift? Feather the gas? I feel like manual might offer more control in that situation. I’m pretty inexperienced with dct though.
@@racing0wl it's just second nature to me because I've slid the car around so much. But usually I keep it pinned and just upshift a gear with the paddle even if the wheels upsidedown I just know where it is or I'll grab the DCT knob and slap it back a gear WOT that way it doesn't really disrupt the balance of the car. When I do that standing burnout I shift from 1st to 2nd WOT then 3rd and slowly balance the throttle to straighten if you at it back a few times you can catch it.
I can't wait to get an M4 with DCT, for now I have an M3 E92 manual and love it as well won't sell it, when you did a burnout at 8:33, how did you dump it, if it's in first gear and you press really fast the gas it doesn't move because it doesn't have the time to put it in gearand if you rev it up and keep it reved it has the time to put in gear and will dump it?
I drive an STI and when I tried out the m2 manual transmission (and I am only comparing the trans) It feels bad, it would not allow you to rev-match (unless full esc off) you actually feel less connected comparing to dct and I think in that sense, BMW dct is the much better option
100% yeah you have to have traction control off kinda funny because that's when you'd need it the most if you don't know how to heeltoe or rev match. I wish there was just a setting to turn off. Maybe you can just code it out IDK. It's just so sad to see BMW abandoned the DCT for a traditional torque converter ZF auto.

Drove both back to back and fell in love with the DCT; manual is always fun! But man does the dual clutch just fit the car sooo well
@@mcintosh.motors heck yea! Makes the car feel special and drive like a super car. #savethedct

Glad to hear I highly recommend some Autox or trackdays if you own one. No better mod than a Driver mod and seat time to get there.

Yeah completely different experience from what I feel in the DCT. I drove the new M5 and the trans was fast but just not the same feel at all.
I definitely love the zf 8 speed it's crazy how fast they shift, but for a m car I wish they would still have the dct
Have you driven a DCT? ZF8 is quick but not even close to the same experience.
Always drive in party mode 🤘🏻

Thanks I was thinking E92 M3 weight I guess that was 3307 then F82 3540lbs now G80 is 3840-3880 still alot more weight.
I like the power delivery and torque of sport plus throttle plus it activates all the cool DCT things.

Great video! Very curious to see how the new auto drives. The manual is great, but isn’t available in a comp package
Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to drive one and see what's better.

I honestly thought I was a crazy person for only driving the car in manual mode....
Nah.....only way to do it! I Always feel like the car is broken if I forget to double tap my M2 button.
I thought Porsche did the shifting the right way it’s jus bmw and Porsche that do it right?
Not in all cars. The newest versions of the PDK they corrected it. But it was backwards for awhile.
@@BlakesGarage Porsche have always done it the “right” way (downshift push forward, upshift pull back) in only the models that matter aka the GTXs.
