Sound Sample -Electrovoice Active Speakers

Here is a sound sample of the speakers I reviewed, the Electrovoice SxA 250 powered speakers. Music by the Montreal band Duchess, recorded in my room with a Zoom H1n recorder sitting on my listening chair.
Associated equipment-Nagaoka MP500, Origin Live Silver arm, Opus Continuo turntable. Synthesis Roma 79DC phono pre, Doge 8 linestage feeding balanced cables directly into the EV speakers.

. Well, I'm certainly no proponent of stuffing cabinets with HiFi components. However, as an X-DJ, I say excellent sound is obtainable with these types of speakers.
There is no replacement for displacement & those 15" woofers combined with a compression driver horn pack a wallop. I see nice 2-way passives for only around $400 each. Just remember the price of Heresy's.
With some care, like using an only tube low watt amplifier & an EQ instead of mega-watt Class D's of DJ's, they can easily outperform small expensive audiophile bookshelf's.
On a practical note, I'm 99% sure Guitar Center et all will buy back for cash or trade-in on the spot. So keep-em pretty. Daddy's Junkie Music always gave 1/2 of what they thought they could resell them for & they were usually very fair.

Yes, the deal on the surface was amazing, so much speaker for not a lot of money! They can certainly fill a room and provide for amazing dynamics and realism on a specific subset of music, but I sold them on because they didn't excel in the qualities that I find important. I made money selling them, so yes you are right they hold and even increase in value!
