Friends of mine went on a camping trip to neighboring France in the 90's. There was also a football championship at the same time and they wanted to watch a german tv station so they asked me if anything could be done with antennas. I did build them a 7 or 9 element Yagi from welding wire and a wooden boom to hold it together. AFAIR the freq. was ~640MHz so the antenna wasn't too unwieldy. There was no program to calculate the antenna for me so i had to rely on books. But apparently it all worked and the boys were happy.
As more information becomes available, I think we get a little too caught up on specifics and details. Although a lot of these measurements can be calculated, we still can't take into account every single variable anyways. Sometimes it's better to just build the thing.
Great job, I think you did very well and exhibited a hams ability to use what he has around to get on the air in emergencies or just hobby events. I am curious if you find your nano vna easy to use, I have been considering getting one.
