I remember jumping up and down as a young teen. My mother was a huge Red Sox fan we spent hours watching the Red Sox together. She passed in Jan of this Year. I miss you mom
I remember listening to this game on the radio and under the covers so my parents couldn't hear that i was still up. I still remember the lineup of that team, the first Red Sox team that i fell in love with as a 10 year old boy. What a summer!
Bro me too, I just said this to someone above. I turned 11 in August that year. First time I fell in love with baseball.
I love this moment, I love Sean, I love my Grandfather who was alive. We watched this together and he brought me to several games in 89-90.
Man… I love this comment. This moment. My grandfather who I loved. We watched this together too. The games my grandfather and I went to during this magical season of 1990. Sox vs Yankees 15-1, mike greenwell’s inside the park home run. Wade Boggs, Ellis burks. Amazing that your comment was at the top - because I feel the same way.
Best catch I've ever seen. Sean McDonough's call of this was pretty damn good. What a catch.
You mean best non catch that was ruled a catch. I guarantee today's video replay review would have showed he didn't catch it. Brunansky didn't make that catch, which was clear watching the game on TV however it was in the corner and with him diving and rolling and then the fans pouring out the umps couldn't see anything and Brunansky emerged like he caught it, which was a total farce. There's another full game video where announcer even said on the broadcast he dropped it. There's a reason they didn't show the replay on ESPN. Announcers even said he dropped the ball and during the game itself the replay showed it bounced out and he regrabbed it after hitting the ground, which is why you'll see him grab back at something (it was the ball). Some ppl lke to say he was going back for his hat however you'll see there was no hat on him when he ran in. No video replay review back then. smh Red Sox stole the pennant and would have had to play the Jays for the pennant next game if not for that "catch" if the Blue Jays won but the Red Sox game happened before the Jays game and Jays lost because they no longer had anything to play for.
@@uzit2161 Saltyyyy
Seriously. It was a catch. Watch the replay within this video. Bitter Jays fan. And why? They won two World Series in a row starting two years after this happened. Of course, this century has been a different story for the Red Sox....
UziT21 Get over it, Canuck. Other angles showed Brunansky held onto the ball. Your opinion is as valuable as your dollar.
@@uzit2161 keep crying
Back in 1989 my high school baseball coach knew Tom Brunanski and he invited him to practice with our team. One day I was watching him take batting practice in our batting cage. He was using wooden Louisville Slugger bats. Well he cracked one of them and gave it to me. He was on the Cardinals at that time and was using a Pedro Guerrero model. It was huge and heavy!!! I still have it to this day. It’s broke in such a way that one can’t tell if it’s broke or not when looking at it from the label. Also, I played 3rd base at the time and we would have scrimmages. One game Tom was on the other team and when he came up to bat I was playing third and freaking out because I was afraid would rip one right at me. Thankfully he hit it somewhere else.
Sean McDonough is one of the greatest. Nearly.33 yrs later this still gives me the goosebumps. Great memories 🎉
I was at the game with good seats on the 3rd base side and a clear view of the play. Had to question if it was a catch when I saw it in real time. TV camera didn't capture the moment as Brunansky slid out of view. Good memories for sure. Forever Fenway,
Also in box seats between third and left field. Looked like a trap.
I was there that night. Never heard a louder Fenway in my life
I had just moved to New England (Maine) in July. This and Clemens dominance was my introduction to RedSox Baseball.
Met him, he attended an alumni game earlier this year at his old high school that I attend currently, West Covina High.
WHAT JOY!!! We were at that game. God, I love those Red Sox!!!
I was 4 years old and don't remember this. This must have been awesome to experience
I was really rooting for a Pirates-Red Sox World Series...
Came here because I've heard about this catch approx 712 times from Boog Sciambi while playing MLB The Show 24. Boog was there you know, with some guys from college.
Bruno! Remember watching this as a 9 year old with my dad and younger brothers.
This was the era of crappy Patriots teams so this was a rare treat for New England!
I was there with my brother! We were sitting in the center field bleachers behind the Red Sox bullpen. We never saw the play because the wall obstructed our view. The place was bonkers after that, a great moment!
Dewey in the dugout cheering on the team. The RF for years before this
Dewey was playing in Baltimore I 90.
@@roberthuot7887 He's in the dugout at the very beginning
@@Grantstore I saw that, but some how the sox let him go that same season to Baltimore. Quite sad, #24 in fenway not retired! Even more sad!
@@roberthuot7887 he played in Baltimore in 91. This was his last year as a Red Sox. Mostly played 1B
I remember watching on ESPN feed and ball came loose after brunanski hit the ground which led to some confusion but umpire ruled brunanski held ball long enough for a catch. In today’s game lengthy video review and subject to second guess.
Back when Fenway was a dump! Classic!
Don't be fooled, it still is. Lol
Tom brunansky in his first year with the twins hit 20 hr’s. And only 40 RBI’s!
Was lucky to be there - we were sitting about halfway up behind home plate, and couldn't see the catch.
Brunansky ane Reardon always will b twins hero's
Gary Thorne's call was better: "Brunansky!! The Red Sox wi ----- Noooo!! He dropped the ball!! Wait a minute!!"
I was at this game. We had 3rd base seats.
10 year old me was up late watching this on tv in his bedroom.
I was going nuts. Great catch!
Greatest Red Sox catch ever until Benintendi.
what a fucking catch
I was there that Fisk was on the white Sox best game I have seen.
All that Steve Winwood song only to get swept by The As.
Andrew Benintendi brought me here
McDonough was hired back by Sox today
Awesome memory
Boog was at this game iykyk
"BRUNANSKY!"
I was there!
Classic
I also jumped up and down at the ripe old age of 12. The whole house erupted. Sean McDonough. Man is he still great or what?!?! Guy calls every sport. Pickle ball even I think. 😂
And they got swept in the playoffs by the A's lol.
Who is the commentator??? I was born in 90 sorry in advance
Sean McDonough
@@mikegulliver4885 Ty he been around forever r
Watch ua-cam.com/video/asTSqjcL4wA/v-deo.html at 2:32:20. He clearly dropped the ball but nothing they could do about it. No replay review back then.
Haters will say Brunansky dropped the ball
That was one boring& really bad Red Sox team. They had no power, no speed, only 2 decent SP, and a gas can bullpen. Take Clemens off that team, and they don't play .500.
Agreed. They got steamrolled by the A's.
After that Toronto lost their last game and the sox won the division by 2. Red Sox could have lost this game and still won the Division.
Not true, this was the last game of the season. I remember it well...being a Jays fan.
+Spartan Bruhaha for there to be a one game playoff the Red Sox would have had to lose and the jays win. The blue jays lost there game so the Red Sox could have still won the division with a loss.
+eyesofnight all I can say is that it was the last game of the season and that catch meant the definitive end for the Jays.
eyesofnight If memory serves..the Sox were 1 game up on us, so we needed to win and the sox needed to lose to force a tiebreaker. I believe Brunansky's catch came before the end of the jays game and at the time the jays were winning their game which made it that much harder to take. Of course the Orioles ended up walking us off, but it was a hell of an ending.
That wasn't even a catch. Today's replay review would have shown it wasn't a catch but because of the angle for the umps combined with Brunansky rolling around and fans pouring out they had to let it stand. Jays knew they were out and let the last game escape them because of it. If White Sox won that game, which they should have and Blue Jays won it would have forced a final game between the Jays and Sox for the pennant. I'm still salty about that so called "catch" and have hated the Red Sox and Fenway since. Brunansky obviously went back and grabbed at something (and is wasn't his hat... he emerged running without his hat) and announcers said it wasn't a catch if you watch the other full video on youtube. There's a reason ESPN didn't show any of the replays regarding that catch except the one that obstructed the view. smh
Here is the best view of the catch ua-cam.com/video/hH5e70HvP4Y/v-deo.html
Reardon was a bum.
Ha! he really was. I used to curse him regularly! he cost Clemens a ton of wins in his short stint in Boston!
Reardon's best days were well behind him at that point.
@@chrisanzalone5445 I would curse Lou Gorman for signing him, when they already had Lee Smith. Deciding to pay more money for an inferior pitcher. What was the point of that?
@@rollo131 Yeah, that was a weird signing. They should've kept big Lee after they had the two closers. But to be fair, Reardon was not a "bum". He was an extremely good closer for a number of years.
@@mikegulliver4885 A two-closer situation was never going to be workable, it would just be a matter of time before one of them started whining about not getting enough save opportunities.
It was a bad baseball move, one of several made by the Red Sox that year, including signing a 30+ year old catcher (Tony Pena) to a multi year contract and, oh yeah, trading Jeff Bagwell for a relief pitcher.
