Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.
The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.
By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.
Universal school choice should be in every state.
YEAH! 'cause it's getting too difficult to teach "duh lost cause" fake history in public schools.
Not really
The funny part (as a former teacher who taught for 9 years in low SES, 6 of which were in a charter school) the institution thinks that to close the poverty gap is to give them 1:1 laptop programs. And I agree, it was more a distraction and hindrance than anything. It was one thing when I was a kid and it was basically used for the word processing feature and the only way to use the internet was in the computer lab.
“If we’re wise, we never stop learning until the Lord calls us home.” ___Caroline in Episode 2/Season 1 in LHOTP.

Beautiful.
Vicki Alger wrote a book about how to dismantle the dept of education and return it all to the states. This makes sense that the step after that would be universal education for the states
Very much appreciate all you both do Dr. Arn and Dr. O'Toole. I've learned quite a lot from the video you both do. And because of it, my 7yr old is all the better for it. She doesn't get classical education at her private Montessori school, but I have taken action at home to give my best attempt to give my little girl as much classical education as we can.
Again, thank you both.

Allow the children to pursue their gift of what they wish to learn.
Really an immature kid good luck with that
there are 3 kinds of knowing. knowledge intelligence and wisdom
knowledge is the memorization of facts, intelligence is the ability to know what you have not been told, and wisdom is the ability to know yourself and others through knowing human nature
education can only produce knowledge, genetics makes intelligence.....and suffering makes wisdom
Wise words.👏👏
Interesting 🤔
@king0fgrift - Shove your eugenics BS far up QAnus!
@@rb032682 is this cuz i said intelligence was genetic? cuz it is bitty
@@007kingifrit - Enjoy your ignorant delusions.
They worked hard to get to the universal education. Iowa just went that way too
Who is John Taylor Gatto
I know done really bad teachers who shouldn't be teachers, so, yes, they absolutely need to be trained in the art of teaching.
Coz nobody wants to
Be teachers
I subbed for charter schools in Houston and they were so woke and liberal.
What is the definition of "woke"?!?
@@rb032682 neo marxist
What does "woke" mean?!?
@@rb032682 it means neo marxist
@@rb032682 A political narrative with Marxist ideas at its roots that doesn't tolerate open discourse.
Classical education - ability to discern the truth.
"classical education" = willful ignorance, and the fear of reality.
@@rb032682 boy you just love coming up with new definitions of words. you're the same far left extremist who called me a eugenicist for suggesting you are born with intelligence or not
@@007kingifrit - ok. I'll skip the debate and just call you a racist.
@@007kingifrit - Hey!
I'm compromising. Usually, I don't compromise when it comes to those who are "bending over" for the propaganda of greed.
@@007kingifrit - When you state something as if it is fact, it is not a "suggestion".
NO ELTCTRONICS? what a concept 🤔I get it LIKE parochial schools😊
It’s Catholic education lite with Christian nationalism. The problem is that nationalism can be redefined by the church or government, and children in such a school will be indoctrinated into this new identity. The Nazis did this to the German educational system. They preached church and family values, but they redefined both so that children who betrayed their parents were considered virtuous.
The kids aren’t learning anything and yet they think they know everything!
Ok , i donate to Hillsdale College they are exceptional. However, cursive writing is impossible for children that suffer from dysgraphia. There is no possibility for this kind of student to do that. It is a neurological , fine motor skill that they do not possess. Years ago these people found that a typewriter made them able to be a writer and now with keyboard they can do the same. My son has this with dyslexia and I had to journal endlessly for a doctor to tell me what his problems were actually called. Then one of the “finest” schools in Dallas told me he was not allowed to print or to use a keyboard to do his work. They referred me to private schools i could not afford. A single mother that had no help and had to earn a living and not able to do it all. I will be contacting Hillsdale and asking this question. It’s the keyboard that these children need, not the other technology. These children cannot learn to spell they spell phonetically - then there is spell check so when is this ok if this is what your human brain is doing.
Cursive writing is a curse. Freedom means alternative options.
Make your students write a Socratic dialogue about how the stock market is merely a glorified gambling den, or the true inherent value of labor as opposed to passive generation of wealth from invested capital.
Any education that does not include a THOROUGH analysis, discussion and exegesis of "The 5,000 Year Leap" by Skousen, is UTTERLY incomplete.
Hyperbole
Could a modern figure possibly be more relevant than an ancient figure?
@@amichiganblackman3200 ; have you read the book?

against scholasticism.
The modern figure is Skousen.
Ancient figures are Socrates Plato and Aristotle.
It appears to be a very good book on American history, suitable for a high school text. Thanks.
It appears to me that a modern figure would have a chance of better understanding of the world because of the greater amount of experience the world has been through.
Revive NO. COMPLETELY RE- EVALUATE THE EDUCATION SYSTEM - YES. Start with Ethics, Morality, The Earth, Family, Survival and Creativity as the CORE SUBJECTS at high schools. Everything else is a factory for obedient zombies.

ok i can agree kids should not have smartphones and whatnot but you can't say no technology in the classroom kids will need to be educated on coding and whatnot. sure ban the ipods and smartphones
Coding is logic through syntax. The classic education is the foundational concepts of this.
Trivium informs how to code
Quadrivium informs what to code
@@marshalllucky7020 that's true but i know logic and can't code so it's not the full story
Yeah classic. No matrix math, no slavery history, no social consciousness, no scientific method just death discipline ill- equiped to tackle contemporary and future challenges.
Agreed. Well said!
Yes. Tens of millions of USA citizens are basing their "patriotism" on false history and lies. A very sad, and dangerous, condition.
it is not logical to teach the bad parts of your own history with equal weight as the good. history should be sculped to inspire greatness
and how ironic your side talking about scientific method which you don't use to derive your core beliefs of compassion and genderism, there are no scientific studies supporting the idea that gender identity is real yet you teach it
@@007kingifrit - Why is your head so deeply embedded up QAnus?!?
You are another sad example of what happens when the USA allows its citizens to be warped and tainted by 160 years of csa/kkk "duh lost cause" unicorn fairy tale history propaganda. A very sad condition.
Tens of millions of USA citizens are basing their "patriotism" on false history and lies.
Why have USA "conservatives" become such whiny little cowards when it comes to facing facts and reality?!?

Classical education? You mean Greek and Latin. Well...possumne putare vos conari Latinitatem docere et literis Romanis Graecisque vestros disculpulos enutrire? ' Versate graeca exemplaria..?'-- Horace. But Karl Marx wrote dissertations in Latin and was a fine Greek scholar. So awkward
