The dialogue for Ethan makes sense. Unlike other RE characters who are basically action heroes thrown into zombies/b.o.w apocalypses/situations, meanwhile Ethan is (as far as he knows) a regular dude being forced to fight horrors beyond his comprehension, I don’t think he ever held a gun before RE7. First molded monstrosities and a evil little girl, now he has to deal with vampires and wolves after thinking he could finally relax. Leon and Chris just had to fight slow zombies and infected Spanish/African people. Ethan went from Evil Dead to fucking Twilight
the problem isnt nesscarily Ethan its really the writing. He almost takes a step backwards with his dialogue that leans more into Resident Evils goofy side more than it should. too the point where its hyper noticeable and yanks you out of the immersion. and of course this is kind of the same plot just with his daughter, and a larger scale this time. With Chris punching boulders, wesker being a whole DC supervillian, and Leon running away from statues and making bad puns. what happens in this game isnt too crazy in the grand scheme. swap every villian with a zombie variation and boom regular business. theres also a number of odd choices they make for Ethan that make him stand out. not in a bad way, but like "what was the goal?''.
The part from Resodent Evil 2 remake where Brian Irons pursues Sherry through the Raccon City orphanage will always be one of the scariest moments in the Resident Evil franchise, or any horror game, for me.
