You'll find a lot of the reason 3 door bendies weren't kept/purchased for a long while belonged to 2 different reasons. One of those was that Custom didn't have a 3 door offering on their busses, so even if they wanted it, they couldn't have it. Another reason was drivers, many were used to the Austral Pacific B10M artics only having 2 doors, and there was a whole hullabaloo when 3 doors got surfaces as drivers didn't know how they could possibly keep track of 3 doors. Thanks to Thoreb control units and cameras, the B8RLEA Optimus allows BT to see all doors at once when they are open
Fair enough, it's always interesting to see the reasoning, as Custom Coaches offered a 3 door CB60 Evo 2 artic not too long after these were made. I always found it interesting that BT didn't go for Volgren artics at the time, but I suppose they may not have had in house capacity at BT Workshops.
This and its sister unit were originally ordered by TransLink and offered to BCC, but the union at the time refused because it had 3 doors and the drivers were “concerned” with the operation of the doors.
I was at cultural Centre when A B12BLEA Volgren Cr228l turned up. I was like what was that doing here in Brisbane? It’s a Sydney bus. I think I’ve seen it before it broke down At Underwood, a mechanic had a come down and fix it so yeah, this is a Sydney Logan has two of these with Volgren and CB60 bodies I might be familiar with the ones in Sydney
I had to read this a few times 🤣 Its common for operators to replace parts with whatever they have in their spare parts, and for a company that operates lots of Bustech Buses, it is common to see them swap in a Bustech part if it fits!
That whine belongs to a few things, but it also can be related to the hydraulic pump that maintains pressure on the knuckle under the turntable to ensure the front end doesn't get pushed out of the way as the driven axle is on the trailer instead of the main mody
Oh yes we have these in Sydney that's operated by state transit.& it's surprising translink has them aswell.since they are on Volvo b12ble's.& they seem to sound nice.when they move.i just love that sound of the b12's.
Some of these bus stopping buttons are Bustech VST
I heard a howl definitely ZF
nah its voith
These look exactly look like the state transit authority bus
if you listen closely to the whine at 2:12, you can definitely tell its a 6 speed ZF

In my city, we have 30 of them.

Interesting to see how just a few years later the three doors are back! And a few years prior, BT had 3 door Fuji articulated buses.

Did you catch this bus when you went to Perth in 2019?
Nope, all of the Logan units have the 6-speed ZF gearbox.
That gearbox whine threw me off!
@@TalkingPlanning On the artics and double deckers, the high-pitched whine that you hear comes from the air-conditioning drive.

@@driverm4544 Definitely the air-conditioning drive. The sound disappears completely when the air-conditioning is switched off.
@@PoweredByCNGHornibrooks scanias also have that noise, so I guess it’s common on all brands?

Yes! I've caught a few Sydney B12BLEA's myself. It's always interesting to see who copies who when it comes to choosing new vehicles.
