Yes, most of the composers experimenting outside of the normal major minor modes, doing polyrhythms and phasing don't seem to be able to do anything other than music which sounds like Lovecraftisn horror movie sound tracks. But it is possible to be beautiful with those methods without inducing terror. It takes a special composer to do it though.

At 4:25 one of the vocalists uses a tuning fork, probably to hear the pitch she's singing. Must be hard to stay consistent with all that dissonance!
