I was amazed when I heard GB was in a World Baseball Classic because I never knew about either. New to baseball but it is so fun.
Awesome to see teams like Great Britain, Czech Republic and Australia compete this WBC. Such a wonderful competitive nature and it’s cool to see baseball is being played around the world.
I thought so too until I realized that free agent players are playing for any team regardless of nationality.
@@sstills951 what do you mean by free agent? A free agent is a player not signed to an affiliated franchise. Czech and Australia especially have plenty of guys who fit this description.
Australia has been an established baseball nation for awhile now. They have plenty of funding and a very strong professional league.
Australia has competed in every single WBC, so this isnt anything new for them lol

The 9th inning was a little bit stressful. That stress is one of the best things about baseball.

I don't even like baseball or know anything about it but I'm British and know this is historic so well done to them! Hope they do well in the rest of the tournament.

I tell you one thing- we will give you a lot more encouragement with regard to baseball than the decades length slagging that English football fans gave to the US National World Football Teams.
Fun fact: GBR won the first ever baseball world cup back in 1938 beating the USA. So we do have a little bit of history in this game!

Wow! What an upset! What a game! Great Britain was much more than expected.
First baseman makes two horrible errors early and then makes an incredibly clutch pick out of the dirt in the 9th with the game on the line. Gotta love baseball.
To be fair those were more throwing errors rather than the 1st baseman’s fault.
@@jsnow808 LOL no. I'm a 1st baseman the 1st baseman should have had both of those. The guy almost cost them the game with his errors his bat isn't nearly good enough to have a glove that bad.
@@JesusChrist2000BC We have such a small baseball scene in the UK that we will take anybody we can get for the national team! I play for a team over here and the game essentially doesn't exist in the minds of the general population.
To give you an example of how poor the standard is, I'm one of the better pitches in the domestic game and my fastball tops out at 80mph on a good day. I have reasonably decent control but I have no doubt whatsoever that I'm worse than a lot of high school pitches in the USA.
Great Britain making it to the WBC was a miracle. Winning a game at the WBC is more than anybody ever expected.

B.T.Sport has covered MLB in Gt.Britain for a few years now, and the influence has certainly reached much further than anticipated. They could have sold out three times over when the Yankees and Red Sox played here . I hope in the next 5yrs that a British born player hits the heights in the MLB. I love the game and its history.

@@bunkydamonkey1225 Harry Ford is American. Played high school ball in Georgia. GB is awhile away from producing MLB players. Their federation only receives $25,000 a year in funding and no professional league or youth academies. Compare that to Italy and Netherlands who have all of those things and a culture of the sport in their countries as well. Hopefully they receive more money in the future.
You won’t see a true homegrown (stayed in GB through college) MLB player for a lot longer than 5 years
If you want a person born in the UK that’s also American or raised in the US, that’s almost infinitely more likely

I cant stand watching MLB, but I love the WBC. Just something about it. As a former player BB just gets so stale. WBC is a breath of fresh air.

Very fun game to watch! UK needs to work on that infield, their Fielding is awesome but their throwing to first is not the best, plus I saw the first baseman had some issues picking some throws up, in any case, amazing game and kudos to them!
