If you think Drance is brilliant you have to be as foolish as it gets lol The guy is so certain with his stupid takes he convinces weak minded people that he's right lol
Shannon The Hockey Guy made a really good point. One of the reasons we haven't seen a Cup in Canada since 1993 is that teams up here, even ones who have been perpetual basement dwellers or mediocre for a long time, are really reluctant to go into a full, serious rebuild where they acquire as many picks and possible and unload as much off their Cap as possible. If you're over 26, you're out. The more picks you have, the better chance you have of finding a gem who can really help you, especially one that would be on ELC. But I think there's reluctance among ownership and management of these teams because they think fans will completely bail on them if their team isn't always competitive. I think if I'm reading the comments on UA-cam and in forums correctly, the fans in Vancouver especially know what's going on and or on board with a rebuild. They'll pay to watch a lot of good young players coming up, even if the end result isn't great initially. What the Canucks have been doing is trading away those picks and prospects for expensive, established players, and still missing the playoffs. So the fans have nothing to look forward to, in the short or long term. But I think ownership is still on the hunt for that quick buck - those 2 lousy, elusive home playoff games. And they've basically lost a decade because of it.
I grew up watching the Canucks in the late 80s when they were the laughing stock of the NHL, and I watched how Pat Quinn rebuilt that team by drafting Trevor Linden, Pavel Bure, Jiri Slegr, Petr Nedved and the like... those late 80 teams were not very good teams, but Pat Quinn had a plan, and I saw hope as a fan seeing the team improving year-by-year until 94. The problem with both Benning and Rutherford/Allvin is that they lack the vision for a 3-5 year rebuild. Ownership is afraid to lose the fan base, and some even say Petey and Hughes would bolt if this team is rebuilding. I feel quite differently - I would be quite on board to see a sucky team with a very clear direction of rebuilding from the ground up. I remember still loving my Canucks in those lean years, because they assembled a team that did not take nights off, and even though they lost more than they won, played with passion and was entertaining. In 5 years, Petey and Hughes would be in the late 20s and still in their prime. What is wrong with winning a Cup when you are 28? It's a lot better than being bounced in the first round 3 of 5 years, and missing the playoffs in the other 2...
How can you commit to a rebuild with 2 of the best young players in the league with petterson and Hughes, horvat for beauvillier hronek and raty... great trade
This might be it for me. I love this franchise but i can’t support this owner, management or direction. Petey and Hughes are great, but this team needs so much more, and to go all in based on those two players “prime years” with this team’s roster/cap issues. I’m floored at how incapable of logic this front office is. My fan card is hanging by a thread…
Drance is correct in that it appears clear that there is no commitment from Canucks' ownership and management to do a proper rebuild, which has been long overdue. As such, Canucks fans should not expect any Stanley Cup contending team anytime soon. In contrast, the Arizona Coyotes are doing a proper rebuild by collecting and stockpiling draft picks for the next four years.

@@drifter5682 they have the summer to fix that you can wait for a 5 to 6 rebuild that has a 50/50 chance of working but you can’t wait a few months for the off-season
Yup I have zero confidence in this organization going forward. They have no ideas for how to make a winner, so they're just going to try to force the issue and squeak back in to the playoffs, which is what they've done for the past eight years. They're right, the common denominator is ownership, it's all on Aquilini. I've had it with this f_ing team. I think I need to jump ship for like five years or so, because they're not going to be competing within that time frame. Let's go Wings.
Drance's act is getting old, predictable & boring... the fake outrage, ranting, raving & negativity. It's too easy to sit back and rant about how bad something is without offering real alternatives. When did Drance last win a Cup (or two)? I hope he moves on to Toronto soon!
I'm sure Yserman had to get into a fight with allvin just to add a player into the deal. I'm confident allvin was just planning on giving away the picks for free.
I believe it’s Aquilini interfering again and if the rumors are true, Jim Rutherford wants out and he leaves in the off-season. There’s even more evidence of that and Rutherford who’s been in this league for over 40 years, as respected as he is will not be a scapegoat to a meddling ownership.
I’m really shocked nobody has mentioned that we will 100% need to trade Petterson next year if the team isn’t fixing the defence. As for tanking this is just unrealistic, the worst team in the league gets a 12% chance? We go from what 7%-9% if we get a little worse?
The worst team in the league gets a 25.5% chance of winning the 1st overall. That team, individually, has a 18.5% chance of winning 1st overall, but any team from 12th to 16th draft positions winning the 1st overall automatically means the worst team wins the 1st overall instead because no team can move up more than 10 spots. 12th to 16th teams combined has a 7% chance of "winning" 1st overall (but they can't)... All this means is that if your team finished dead last, they have pretty much a 1/4 chance of winning Bedard this year.
The one thing I like about Drance is that he writes for a site that has a paywall, so I don't have to keep seeing his articles. All he does is whine about everything the team does. Never once have I heard him say something positive. He's the kind of guy that hates when the Canucks trade away players to get picks, saying it was not enough of a return, and then turn around and say when the Canucks get a quality player for picks, saying it was too much to pay for a quality player at a premium position. "Bad re-tooling move", re-tooling means getting players to fit your proposed window, which is within the next 2-3 years for Petey, Hughes and Demko. Drance (and team rebuild) is saying stockpile picks for a lottery to go our way to get the 1st pick, which STILL has never happened for this franchise, so why tank when the league has made it so much harder to get that coveted 1st OV pick? Just another downer that even when the Canucks win will continue to look at the negatives. I get the team is not good, but you can see that management is trying to get this team to a better place than it was with JBJW. Picking up Bear and Hronek on the back-end, getting SOMETHING back for Schenn and a pretty good return for Horvat sets them up (once they can move Boeser and Myers) to build a team that is well-balanced (notice I didn't mention OEL, because that anchor is staying, no matter how much people want it gone).
You act as if the team has been trending upwards and he’s criticizing it… You’re saying that he’s been too negative about everything, yet, it’s all gotten us to 27th in the NHL. His negativity is justified. You’re just one of the people that enables Aquilini to keep getting away with this win-now style of management that will deny us ever winning a Stanley Cup.
@@ThatBigCactus i'm not saying i support Aquaman and his nosy antics, but this move is made with a somewhat shorter-term mindset so we can still have the cornerstones of the team play and (hopefully) win together. Everyone that thinks we can do a full rebuild but keep Pettersson and Hughes are the delusional ones. If you enjoy the younger talented players we have now and think they can bring us to the promised land, we need to be getting guys like Hronek and Bear (that age range) with upside to help out the current core. If not, then we should be trading Hughes and Pettersson now to get back the best packages of draft picks to start all over. However, there is not 1 GM in the league that would think that was a good course of action. I have an issue with people that complain about every move, like Drance, who never say the whole argument of that this makes the team better than it would be with a draft pick in the late teens, which the team would need to wait 3-5 years before that pick could contribute. I think Drance plays the over-the-top negative role in the media well, and he makes good points, but like JPat, never says anything positive about what this could mean for next year, or the year after that, just a current mindset of "WhAt ArE ThEy DoInG?" Because they don't have the full plan
Nice now we can move from 27th in the standings, maybe to 19th? And we’ll still be capped out with no prospect pool. Great. Love the trade. Win now baby! My dream is to max this team out and win a first round series.
If you want to rebuild, you trade petey and hughes because they don't want to go through it because they'll be 30 by the time the teams ready. How do you sit at the table as management and come up with these ideas?.........What is the reasoning behind it?
I don’t know they have a winning track record Rutherford has 3 Stanley cups running organizations maybe give it more then a year
Yup
I have zero confidence in this organization going forward.
This Franchise is winning Bedard! I just feel it! The hockey gods will finally pay this fanbase what it deserves! It's taken a beating.
Much reduced chance now unfortunately with picking up Hronek, Demo returning and the Tank drivers OEL and Stillman, injured and traded respectively.
People in VAncouver should just cancel their tickets, the only way things will change
I believe the team is better seeing the total return on Horvat. You can't deny the return we got in total for Horvat was great.
Raty sucks period cant skate be lucky to be a fourth line center
Drance's act is getting old, predictable & boring... the fake outrage, ranting, raving & negativity. It's too easy to sit back and rant about how bad something is without offering real alternatives. When did Drance last win a Cup (or two)? I hope he moves on to Toronto soon!
Rutherford has 3 that’s who people are having a go at a guy that’s won 3 Stanley cups running teams
And if they add defense and are still bottom 10 in the league?
The worst team in the league gets a 25.5% chance of winning the 1st overall. That team, individually, has a 18.5% chance of winning 1st overall, but any team from 12th to 16th draft positions winning the 1st overall automatically means the worst team wins the 1st overall instead because no team can move up more than 10 spots. 12th to 16th teams combined has a 7% chance of "winning" 1st overall (but they can't)... All this means is that if your team finished dead last, they have pretty much a 1/4 chance of winning Bedard this year.
Done with this team🤬🤬🤬🤬
I can't stand what Canucks management are doing to this team. In ownership's bid to sell tickets, they are losing their core audience.
Myers cap will be coming off the books when hronek needs a new contract and there's no way he gets more than hughes
Agreed
I think Drance plays the over-the-top negative role in the media well, and he makes good points, but like JPat, never says anything positive about what this could mean for next year, or the year after that, just a current mindset of "WhAt ArE ThEy DoInG?" Because they don't have the full plan
he says positive things about Pettersson all the time, calling him an absolute elite player.
@@okyouknowwhatever That's true, but someone would have to be an absolute monster to not acknowledge how good Pettersson has been
Love Thomas.
writing this comment aug/2024.......hahaha. this is why alvin has one of only 32 positions available on the planet.
Guess I’m the only one in Canuck nation who likes the deal 😂 solid top 4 D man is gona cost ya picks ..
I like the trade, too. There are more of us than you think, Mr. Breakfast.
Nah. I don't mind it. Right D are scarce/expensive.
@@onnadarts23 thanks my bananas !
it's like everything from this hit went right over your head lol
Nice now we can move from 27th in the standings, maybe to 19th? And we’ll still be capped out with no prospect pool. Great. Love the trade. Win now baby! My dream is to max this team out and win a first round series.
Why is there always someone laughing off camera? On a different note, Vancouver media continues their war with the Canucks. What else is new...
That's Ryan the producer of the show laughing like a 8-year-old girl at the back...
@@bshoulder someone up thread said it's Drance's wife who is laughing off camera
If you want to rebuild, you trade petey and hughes because they don't want to go through it because they'll be 30 by the time the teams ready. So instead of tearing it down now, why not give petey and hughes a chance and retool right now? If it fails then you cam rebuild anyways, give the players a chance not everything I'd about us fans.
They will 100% fail. No team in the history of the NHL has won a cup without building through the draft. None. Nilch. Nada.
@@Starrynova then they'll fail. Atleast they're giving petey amd hughes a chance. They owe us fans nothing. No team has also won the Stanley cup without free agency or trading for players in their prime 🤷🏽♂️
@@Starrynova that’s not true at all lighting a did they retooled for 2 years cup winners back to back same with the penguins the Avs did it in 3 the blues did it far more retooling teams have been successful then the ones that have rebuilt
maybe wait and see else is happening.
Drance nails it again. Don't hold it against him. Build for a Cup again.
Could have had 2 with the Sedins.
One or two pieces, and an elbow from that piece of crap Blackhawk defense man. Would have. Think about the Cup build.
Allvin is scared to draft a dud and look bad. He's already getting heat for Lekkerimaki 9 months after the pick.
Yserman more of a true hockey guy than a financial roller coaster ride. We get the cast offs and cast off the hockey truists. It’s history.
Trade is wrong for multiple reasons. Mainly you paid top dollar and the most expensive time to get players. Trade is a friggin’ joke. Canucks are just pathetic.
Over cap no pick Canucks good by it’s been a rocky 53 years . I packing up giving Canuck gear to flea market and joining Seattle Kraken
The Kraken are gritty love there playing style im done with the canucks ive been there since the beggining sad
Ok 2 causal fans who will bitch when the team they watches loses kraken get knocked out you will cry
You missed out on a great season so far. :(
tanking and coming last doesnt get u Bedard etc it gets u a 18.5% chance at Bedard... better trade than u think if he is healthy
Who knew that a newbie GM would make such bad decisions.
Looking like a pretty good decision now, though..
Lmao!!! Hilarious!!! How’s his value now??!
Drance is a commentator and not an NHL executive. Drance is very full of his own opinions without being on the inside and it is extremely annoying to hear this level of belligerence on a daily basis.
Irrelevant, Drance is usually correct on pretty much everything as it pertains to the Canucks.
Go to the nearest dollar store and buy a clue.
Prior to injury this season , provide the record with Thatcher in net . Share that stat with big mouth Drance and rotate together.
@@roundnround365 Can't rely on Demko to stop 50 shots every night, dim-bulb.
Sounds like you're too emotionally attached to a team that is nowhere near playoff contention, never mind Stanley Cup contention.
Keep looking for that clue in aisle 6.
Dismissed.
Next.
detroit is not even close to winning the stanley cup
And the Canucks are? LMFAO
I am so with Drancer on this. This is a disappointing day
Bring back Keenan and messier!
Thomas Drance thinks he is smarter than most General Managers in the NHL. Too bad no team will hire him to be the water boy. Oh right he couldn't handle a marketing job in Florida. He keeps crying about the Canucks salary cap space. May be he should go work in Detroit.
L take drance. relax.
Well we gotta start somewhere and we need D desperately
agree, but when you trade away a 1st and 2nd you have to make sure that you add the type of D-Man this team needs. This team needs a physical stay at home D that can munching minutes. This kind of D-Man who excels at playing defense.
Canucks don't get this type of D-Man in Hronek. He 's not great defensively. You can't pair him with Hughes. That would result in a myriad of goals against.
but Hronek is not very good defensively. if he was then Y would have kept him.
Bottom 10 for 10 more years!!!
Canucks got butchered. Dumbest move ever.
Dumbest comment ever
How can we get Drance the gm
