I am a Navy Corpsman. Served 88-96. Took 2 years before I had earned the title Doc. No we don't have a degree but the basic Corps School curriculum is what was used to form the PA program both in the Navy, then Nationally. We were trained in basic lifesaving techniques, to highly advanced secondary schools. I went on to multiple schools including Fleet Marine Force and Laboratory medicine.
23 of my brethren have earned the Medal of Honor. Most of those posthumously.- They died trying to save others. Honored to have followed in their shoes.
Hooyah
Steve G thank you for your service to our country 🤍
"Doc" comes from the Navy Corpsman. (Combat medic) the infantry refers to them as "doc"
Marines
@@TheNomadWandering marines are a branch of the navy....
@@TheNomadWandering Yeah Marines not infantry
I offer my respect for your reaction to this song when you realized it was actually a serious song about a combat medic. Much of what a medic sees will follow them their whole life. Most of them would not change their choice of being a medic for anything.
I saw this comment and made it a point to watch the wheels turn. It was really cool to see happen
Corpsman... not medic. Get it right.
@@GTJacket624 I the Army they are not called Corpsmen - - Only us Navy guys and Marines have Corpsman.
@@GTJacket624 GT Army Combat Medics are also called “Doc".
@@GTJacket624 that's the navy and marine corps. The Army they call the Medic Doc.
US Army Combat Medic here, I would want them to feel peace before they go, I think they understand that i'm going to try everything i can to prevent death, but sometimes everything isn't enough. Anyways, love the reaction brother. keep it up man.
My father was a combat medic in the Army and I plan to go down the same path once I finish up college. Wish you the best man!🤙 Thanks for all y’all do!
Thanks doc
I was about to blow up then I realized that you didn’t know what this song was about.
I was a Ranger and A combat medic, I served 21 years in the Army.
I appreciate you realized the message here.
We can’t forget the cost of our freedoms.
As medics we are more than a medic, we are a priest,a therapist, marriage counselor and a few other roles. It’s about the love of your fellow brothers in arms and our Sisters too.
Thanks for sharing this
Rules of war
1. Good men die
2. Doc cannot stop that
3.Doc will fight like hell to change rule 1 and 2
Doc holds a special place in a grunts heart its highly recommended to not mess with them Semper Fi to all the Docs you guys saved some good men and women including this devil dog right here
My dude. Your face at the line “I ain’t got no degree” killed me…..as for “and you gotta lie”…..I was a medic for 20 years, I’ve held more than I care to count as they took their last breath.
You know there isn’t any hope and this is their end.
You lie.
Every. Damn. Time.
I’d rather them meet their God surprised than terrified.
But I carry it with me to this day.
If you’re ever in Alaska and want to go fishing, hit me up!
I was a 68 whiskey in the army, even time I hear that song I cry, it was my honor to serve and save lives as it was for many of us 68W. Thank you for respecting the song and the meaning, you have my respect for that.
Goose bumps SHOULD come from their job descriptions. God bless the docs.
Doc is a Navy Corpsman. A lot different than being a combat medic in the US Army. Green side docs are attached to US Marine infantry divisions . We don't have our own medics and we rely on the Navy .
I was hit in 2005 at age 19. AK 47 hit my plate carrier in my back . I yelled for 3 things . First " I'm hit I'm hit!"
Second " Doc Doc I need a Doc "
3rd - . I ugh.....I cried for my momma and yelled out for her". I'm not ashamed of that sitting here at 36 years young now.
So glad you made it back. I was a blue side corpsman, but those devil docs are something else.
My daddy who just passed away 😢 was called doc two helmets was a Navy veteran and lost alot of sisters and brothers in combat. Still called him doc until he passed away.
US Marines Infantry have Docs they are Corpsman with the infantry. My husband was an 0311 USMC by God those Docs have the respect from every Infantryman. I'm a retired military nurse I've had to lie to a few and cry on my knees to God later. Medics and Docs do things most can't even imagine in their worst nightmares. God Bless our Docs and Medics.
I cry everytime I hear this but you should look up the story behind the song its about navy Corpsman Shaun Bott
Of all the service branches. Only Sailors and Marines use the term "Doc" for enlisted Navy Corpsman. Even then it is usually reserved for FMF corpsman (Devil Docs) with Marine ground units or ship or squadron corpsman that have earn the respect of their shipmates. I was a Corpsman from 84-90. There are times I wish I had extended my enlistment.
Welcome to the life of a combat medic. I wasn't a medic when I was in but like any soldier, tons of respect for the job they do.
I was a combat medic in Vietnam. 101st Airborne Div. 2/506 Infantry. An I lied slot on the battle field. An I'm not sorry , we try to do what's rite. God Bless Em All! CURRAHEE
Aussie combat vet
Was hit by RPG fire sept 21/94 in a place that wasn’t officially acknowledged, first l called l’m hit, second l called medic.
R.I.P Cpl Jean Rebaue 2eREP 4th CIE recon team REAPER 3/7 l’ll see you soon brother 🇦🇺🇺🇸🇫🇷
One of the most asked questions he got. doc will I make it back home. Some times you have to lie because he never know if they did or not until he got back.
They are singing about 68W’s, which is an Army Combat Medic or Navy Corpman. They call me Doc!
Not sure why in comments there was so much back & forth on corpsman, medic or doc!! This was written by these guys from CreatiVets to help our veterans tell their story!! Written with US Navy Veteran, Shaun Bott, a Navy corpsman (medic), who was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and provided medical support for US Marine convoy operations, the emotional track pays tribute to all “Docs” that have served in each war and the hardships they have had to endure. 😢
I have told the truth but then I promised which haunts me today I went to his parents and told them I still see his moms reaction
Seen em live they sound that good NO AUTOTUNE
I saw your face when you realized it was a real tune about real shit. Thanks man
As a combat medic in the army that's what this song is about I've listened to this song and many of their other songs they are amazing honestly even before I had my daughter the color pink would get to me man
proud us navy 8404 corpsman... rest easy brothers
First time hearing these two. Thought this was fabulous. Going to look up other songs by them. Loved your reaction :)
There is no choice, you never tell a soldier he's not gonna make it. You tell him he's gonna be fine, then go on to the next one and cry about losing your brother later.
Agreed
This was about a medic in the military. During a slow country song you have to listen to the story, you can tell fairly quick if it is gonna be a sad song. You will turn people away by making fun of these type of songs.
Field Corpsman 79-83.....remember Beirut Oct 23,1983
I’d lie. I’d carry that burden. If he doesn’t make it, he at least got to rest easy, maybe had hope. Maybe that hope and belief they might make it might be enough for them to pull through. For that tiny precious hope, yeah I’d lie.
Most of the time the doc will lie and tell you that it’s not that bad
In all honesty if you are kind and care for who you are treating you will lie and it will eat you up for years and years
Corpsman because even Marines need heroes.
For us it's not a nickname, our title of Doc isn't earned by some fancy degree.
GOOD MEDICS ARE HEROS
Doc the term of great respect of the combat medic.....putting their lives on the line for their fellow comrades.....pj 85-95
Thanks because us Rangers need a hero i was shoot 3 time twice in the chest once in the head as I tried to get to one of my guys yall pj's got me out and that's to yall I can be hear with my kids and grandkids
Love this song 😍😍
@7:07 You wonder if you can make that decision to lie to a patient who is most likely going to die.. you do it. The benefits of telling the truth far outweighs the cons of lying to them. BTW, this is the only situation where I would consider keeping the patient in the dark regarding their own health.
Hooyah! Corpsman up!
Kill!
Lie to them so they keep fighting if you tell them the truth he’ll give up
Best concert ever at seven peaks Colorado with dierks Bentley, react top lost or mysteries of the world
You never wore those boots!!!
Hey man I figured you kinda would laugh at that beginning. But as the song played I saw your demeanor change..... as a corpsman a combat medic this song hits a different cord for me. And as the reason for the break up I have no idea but if I guess off my own internal guess I’d say it’s because something didn’t feel right and you have to cut ties. Nothing personal per say but just is what it is.... love what you do keep it up!!!
We just say we are doing everything we can
I wanna be a firefighter and if i was in a situation like that were you get asked am i gonna make it. Idk what il say it freaks me out
Coming from a firefighter, it's not easy. Rely on your brothers and sisters. You're never alone. If you need a shoulder or some support GET IT! Push yourself to be the best and to always exceed!
You tell them "they are gonna be fine brother stay strong" ANYTHING less is cruel and will cause panic and a poor mindset...from Wyoming USA 🔫🤠
I'm a EMT. I haven't had to answer that question yet but I've decided that I'm going to tell the truth. That we're doing everything we can and to stay strong. I have fellow EMTs and paramedics who have lied about it and I don't blame them. Honestly I won't know what I'll do for sure till the moment.
Love this duo -- Jordan Walker and Johnny McGuire. Here's a link to the story on how the song came about, working with CreatiVets. tasteofcountry.com/walker-mcguire-doc-soldier-tribute/
I am a realist who doesn’t spare feelings but if I was in the position I would lie to them that way if they do die they don’t have to worry about it everyday
I have never been as pissed as I was when you made fun of and denigrated these combat medics. Glad you finally realized that this song was about the bravest and finest of us who ever wore the uniform. Maybe you can wait until you understand what the song is about before having "fun" with us.
No auto tune, he just has a nasally voice
There harmonizing
What all you up to listen to, my man? I know a few songs from around the internet, lol.
no atuo tune bro
Let me just say this you lie
