  • Although I do think 7's are a better car then a mk2 escort, Im not hating, so please be respectful if you comment, try and have a sense of humour and remember people love their cars and are welcome to do so, if we all loved the same stuff life would be pretty boring!!
if have any questions please ask in the comments and i will try to reply asap.

Have had both 7 tin top and 7V8 rag top. Both superb cars. It is fact that most BL cars were far better engineered than any contemporary Ford. It's such a shame the execution in the build was not so good. Mid eighties me and my friends would go looking for races with Escorts in a Dolly Sprint, yet another superb underrated car ruined by execution of build.

I had five Sprints over the years and loved every one. Deceptively quick and a great car. Never had a problem leaving any Escort behind.

Sprint engine was way ahead of its time, don't get me wrong the 2.0 sohc ford engine is a great engine, but no where near as refined as the sprint motor

Nice little vlog. What you had said was what I thought back in the 80's. I looked at X19's at the time and thought the TR was stronger plus the driving setup was better, you weren't squeezed up against the windscreen. I recently refurbished my back end after finding an exhaust leak and I said in one of my videos that the engineering into the axle etc was very good and robust.
My TR7 has never been welded, resprayed or updated in any way, it is as it left the factory (ok lumenition ignition added) The paintwork is crying out for a respray but it's only original once.
Car was Ziebarted from new and has been dry stored all of it's life.
I also respect what other people do with Fords and it's always good to see them on the road as other cars that people keep on the road. Some stories behind cars are great.
Lastly the reputation for the Triumph TR7 was tainted from the start due to poor electrics and the first 4 speed Marina box that was a poor box. That's why they put the LT77 in toward the end of the 70's.
I still love my TR7, I personally think the convertible looks better, which is what I have and do find over the last couple of years has attracted more interest in general, when out & about in it.
Love to see more on the Grinnall.

The grinnall is sold now, but it was a very solid little car, all the body mods are steel and it had power steering too, really great car

I'm picking up my first TR7 hardtop on Monday, can't wait. It's a minter! Had a mk2 escort 2 door in the 80's when I past my test...total rot box & issues. So fingers crossed TR is as good as it looks.

    Totally with you!
My first car was a Jade Green Mk 1 Escort 1.3 GT with twin Webers when i was 17, and the car was 18 (yeah, wish i still had it) which was a free gift from an old relative
Never liked the Mk 2 Escort looked like a backwards step,
In 1979 my Dad had a Tr7 from new and as a 9 year old kid thought it amazing. It did 100 mph which was like breaking the sound barrier at the time.
Now 30 years later bought a barnfind hardtop no sunrrof red TR7 (£1,700) which I am working on, and a year on and now fully stripped and only found rust in driver footwell and around fuel cap. I LOVE IT. it's going to keep me occupied for years. That advice on "Does it go?" is such good words. Engine is cheap (I bought two complete for £25 and £100 inc. carbs) but bodywork is dear.
Also I don't "get" minis and Beetles, not in the 70's, not now.

    • @YorkshireClassicCarsltd
      @YorkshireClassicCarsltd  10 місяців тому

Great news, I always loved minis, there are jobs on them that are a nightmare, but not many. Beetles are a no for me, never got it, they were wrong in many, many ways lol.

I too love my convertible 🤪 1980 tr7, just had the 2ltr engine rebuild at a grate cost, on price if you wanna rally good one then your looking at 10k, I like fords too and have had a few, but the tr7 is not so common these days,
I was at a charity car show a month ago and a boy racer was complaining that more peaple was looking at my tr7 than his Nissan custom ,noisy car I thought it was very funny, ok I was showing off my nice shiny rebuild 2ltr engine 😊
One day the tr7 will get it’s time in the limelight. Peaple dont understand how advanced it is.

@@YorkshireClassicCarsltd Tring Hertfordshire. It has a 40000 mile engine and gearbox out of a former airport sherpa (rope seal engine), stag rear axle, upgraded suspension (cant remember what now) princess front brakes, holley carb, 3" bore stainless exhaust and a convertible . I have not opened the garage door on it for a few years, but it was running and driving when parked. I've not been motivated to do it again since my dad passed (we did the restoration together in the 2000's)
