Thanks for the video and review. That is a BIG reel bro. I just bought a Penn Slammer III 7500 and a Penn Battalion 12' Hvy. rod to match it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the gear. Subbed.
What part of Florida? I have several Slammer III's. 2 4500, 1 5500, 1 6500 and 8500 and a 8500HS that I just purchased. I don't shark fish. Living on the coast of Florida and can fish every day, shark fishing just has no challenge. But I get it. It's a blast if u do it only a few times a year. I'm going to use the 8500HS offshore. While trolling u sometimes see birds near the water going nuts. Its usually a bait ball that usually either tuna or mahi have pressed up against the surface. So we cast usually big spoons into the bait ball and boom fish on! It only lasts maybe a minute or two but it's absolute bedlam! I too really like the carnage II spinning series. Great rods! Bull reds are much more fun on light tackle. I've even landed big bulls on a Penn clash 2500 and 10lb sufix 832 braid. Not good for the fish tho. It exhausts them and builds up too much lactic acid. Great vid thx man! If your ever in the new Smyrna beach area, look me up and I'll take u fishing. No, not in a kayak tarpon fishing like my profile picture here lol!
DJ Allen hahaha nice, I do most of my fishing bear Panama City and Destin. Those reels can take a huge beating and still work flawlessly. I’ll have to look you up if I come that way for real. Hopefully in a few weeks I’ll be down in Panama City doing some kayaking for kings
Hi! I need a reel for shore jigging with a Majorcraft Solpara 1002h 60-100g. I can go with Penn Slammer III 5500 (180€), Daiwa Bg mq 8000 (160€) , Shimano saragosa (220€) or Saltist Ltd 5000 (250€). What would you choose?
Oh hahaha never mind that’s a little different. I’m not sure how big the ones you are going after but I use my 12 ft heavy for everything from catfish to sharks. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for sturgeon to. Even that big it’s still sensitive enough to see the bite
@@ReelBeasts I’m gonna take it with me on my trips to Venice LA. So I’ll definitely be putting it through it’s paces on 100+lbs yellowfin lol I’ll let you know how it performs!
Good review, I just got this reel recently as 4500 size. Do you think this reel as 4500 size can take splash and little dunk if accident happen during the surf?
vsonic86 yes it can, I had mine get pulled out of a rod holder by a shark surf fishing one time and had to chase it down in the surf to get it back. It was dragged through the sand and completely submerged. When I opened it up there was no water or sand in it. I was super surprised at how well it stayed clean on the inside after something like that.
Jarrad Duncan I had about 500 yards of 80 lbs braid when I first spooled it. I ended up going with 65 pound braid later because I can get almost 800 yards. I use them for shark fishing also so I like the extra yards.

thanks man
I bought one and my girlfriend's pissed I don't sleep with her anymore
William Goring yr reel will still be there with u when she has long gone
I bought a 4500 for kayak fishing. Nice unit
Worth it!
I have penn spinfisher 10500. And this reel looks BIGGER AND BETTER!
Great review Pat. That’s a awesome setup
That price much more better than shimano stella, and it more power full reel 👍👍
That thing is huge
Austin Jones needs to be for the fish we catch
I know but wow lol
@milkmandan77 😂I know she told me last night
Wish they made a bailess long cast Slammer 3 in 5500.
That actually would be pretty cool

Jason Creech I will be shark fishing in a week or so. I love blacktips they jump good to.
What size reel would you recomend for sturgeon fishing? 6500?
Sheesh, what a monster
You need it though when your hooked into a monster lol
Good bro

Either the Penn or the Shimano because I've used those and know more about what they can handle.
Question bro!? What Carnage 2 rod would you recommend? Im going sturgeon fishing, but i also need it to have a sensible tip! Thank you
Eric Mendoza if you are fishing from a boat I would say the 7ft heavy. The extra length will help with sensitivity but still have tons of back bone
@@ReelBeasts doing shore bro!

@@ReelBeasts sweet!!! Yeah sturgeon are anywhere from 4 feet to like 7..8..lol should do the job! 6500 or 7500 slammer will do i think!
I would go the 7500 for the extra yards
I’m looking at this exact reel, along with the carnage 2 jigging rod, for yellowfin tuna. How do you think they’ll stand up to that?
I would think so, I use mine on a cheaper rampage jigging rod and have fought huge sharks on it. It will be one heck of a fight on that!
@@ReelBeasts good to hear! Thank you very much!
@@christopherwilde6673 no problem. Can’t wait to hear about what you catch on it

What reel would a power ranger use?
??? that's a good question
@@ReelBeasts I need a good answer
SlidellBaby I would say shimano because it’s shiny and Japanese made but mostly used in America haha
How many yards of 65lb are you getting on the reel.
I got exactly 750 yards of 65 on there
@@ReelBeasts that’s a lot of line. Not much that can run from that.
We had a few big sharks get close to dumping it
@@ReelBeasts when you say big what size are we talking?
One was 10ft tiger, we are not sure of the other.
What kinda of braid do u use
I use powerpro super slick 8 65 lbs
@@ReelBeasts thx
How is your Slammer holding up?
Even now it’s still in really good shape. I’m gonna use it Saturday for amberjack actually
I have the 8500 and love it!..Once the Authority is out for a few years I'm going to get the 8500 high speed reel for jigging.
I plan on getting one myself
how much 80 lb braid dose the biggest one fit
Jarrad Duncan I had about 500 yards of 80 lbs braid when I first spooled it. I ended up going with 65 pound braid later because I can get almost 800 yards. I use them for shark fishing also so I like the extra yards.
It's not submersible. It's IPX6.
Did you see the new ones coming out?
What size this reel sir ?
Made Suparta it’s a Penn 10500 slammer. It’s the biggest spinning reel penn makes.
@@ReelBeasts thanks sir for information🙏
My girlfriend jumped into bed and started yelling at me and I said what's wrong and she said what the f*** is this reel doing in bed
