Hi. My husband has ataxia. Cerebellar Ataxia as a result to bacterial meningitis after a brain tumour resection in 2016. It has been degenerative and he is basically bed ridden as of October 2023. Thanks for the information ❤
A very good coverage of Ataxia symptoms (cerebella in my case) but in common with all the ‘specialists ‘ that I have come across both you and they all the symptoms I know only too well but offer no cure (apart from exercises which have little affect on a shrunk and damaged cerebellum caused I surmise by meningitis in childhood😂
Thank you for this information! My neurologist thinks I may have Ataxia, and I am now having some vision problems, but my eye doctor says with my glasses I have 20/20 vision. My Neurologist also said he has seen mild nystagmus in me during his exam. I have several different balance issues also. But I’ve seen 2 neurologists and they don’t agree regarding Ataxia.
I’m going through these eye problems right now, and am being tested for Ataxia. Driving is becoming a problem. I have atrophy in my cerebellum. I’m 74 years old. I’m assuming my driver’s license will need to be turned in soon. 😢
I am 73, and I can no longer drive. I HATED the loss of freedom at first, but I hated the idea of hurting someone else more. Now that I have not been driving for over 12 years, I have to admit it. I like not having to drive. I actually get to observe the environment, and it is a wonderful way to see my friends without the added distraction of the road. I mean, what is more important? What do you value? When you put things in perspective, loosing your driver's license is only one of the major obstacles I have faced. You will be okay, As the saying goes, "Call an Uber."
@@CarolCalfee yes, you’re correct. Update: I have stopped driving. At first I was crushed, but now it has been a blessing in disguise. There are neighbors who volunteer to drive people around, and I have been making so many new friends! I have lots of appointments and drivers have volunteered to take me. Also, I was just diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia which is mild right now. I’m 74, live alone, and my Dr has referred me to a social worker who can help me with services. Anyway, I wish us all well.
I agree with the previous comment with one qualification. Genetoc testomg os gettomg better as mew gemes are odemtofoed. but you neurologist should also determine strong physical symptoms that may be form of non-identified ataxia. This is a complicated topic, and working with a neurologist who is familiar with ataxia is critical!
