- OMG! Creating this Ikea hack storage unit for Ziya's playroom makeover was a LOT! Countless hours of shopping, designing, building, painting, sanding...Did I say SANDING!? Zoe is probably the smartest, efficient, reliable, creative, down the earth assistant I’ve come across in the last 30+ years. She’s truly an invaluable asset to your brand and family. Truly love her and happy she helps and add greatly to your vision.
It’s the primer I use. Also if you paint and do diy I remember when that primer 3 years ago used to be $39. COVID really changed things. Also if you add your paint color and have them tint the primer it actually will save extra steps and more paint to actually paint with your color.
ETA: you guys did a great job and love the paint color. Next video let us know what paint color you used for the project. I love the pink.

As someone who just 3yrs ago was working at Home Depot in the paint department I can remember the primer being that price and customers asking us to tint their primer, the problem with that was you couldn’t tint it as an exact match and you’d have to do a fraction of the tints because the can would overflow . Thankfully she can do it for a light color if they dispensed only the red colorant

Hey Raven! My dad is a contractor so I grew up watching him do this stuff your doing now, so I thought I’d throw you a few helping points invest in a nail gun they are so handy and takes one hand to use and the nail holes are smaller so you don’t see them at all in the end! Paint sprayer was a great idea! You could also put a cute picture frame around the thermostat to make it a cute accessory to the shell and hide the edges, for the next time with a thermostat best truck I know is to push the ikea unit up against the thermostat and have a peice of tape doubled up on the thermostat and when you pull the unit away from the wall it’s marked or you could use a pencils to loosely trace around it from the indent of the thermostat
I love how you could've just hired someone to do this project for you but instead you chose to do it yourself. That is so cool
The fact the shelf alignment for one row is more narrow actually makes the unit feel more custom. When everything is exactly the same height and so uniform, it doesnt feel as 'bespoke'. Overall, this was an amazing project! I'm tired just watching YOU work! 👏👏👏👏❣❣❣❣❣

Raven, I so feel your pain with this IKEA hack. I'm in the process now of painting the Pax system for my office. The sanding and multiple coats of primer and paint nearly killed me. I mess up the first time on the doors and didn't sand and the paint just peeled right off. Second mistake I made was not to build a platform to put the cabinets on so that they would be at the height of my base boards. For your next project do get a miter saw and a nail gun. I'm about to purchase a nail gun. I finally finished the painting, hallelujah 😊. Now I can start to put everything up in the room. You all did a great job and Zoey is an excellent assistant.
