He's said in an interview that the song is very hard to perform because it's at the highest end of his register. So he always has to kinda improvise something. :)

Dave and Scott played on 7 of his albums. They were a formidable live act
I gave it a thumbs up, but it's funny how he tries to sing it differently than the studio version but he can't manage to stay in tune. Still cool.
