I'd love to see a "Teenager Of The Year" tour with these exact musicians and/or the ones on the album and have them perform the whole entire science fantastic 22 tracks! This has to be one of the best albums of all time! Maybe Frank Black fans could suggest politely or petition respectfully of course, because that would be one awesome concert!
These are the musicians on the album, and for my money, the best band with whom Frank Black was ever affiliated. I never fully understood why he brought out an entirely new lineup for the Cult of Ray, but the results were far more middling. The self-titled (recorded prior to Workman joining) and TOTY are towering achievements.
@@radiosant I wasn’t much a fan of The Cult of Ray, either, but I’m guessing that either a) it was an artistic decision and he didn’t want to repeat himself or b) it was financial and he couldn’t afford to bring in the the same individuals or the amount of individuals he needed to make TOTY. His label did drop him after TCOR, after all, and I believe he insinuated it he was in financial limbo between that and his first album with the Catholics (on which Lyle Workman was once again lead guitarist). It’s also possible that our beloved Joey Santiago, Eric Drew Feldman, and Nick Vincent (only appears on one track on TCOR) just had another commitments. All 3 of them came back for Dog in the Sand, which I think is his best album with the Catholics. I’d say they clearly have chemistry, but none of these guys are millionaires (except maybe Frank by now) so I’m sure it came down to interference from other obligations and projects they had to work on. I know I just wrote multiple paragraphs to a 3 year old comment, but I get excited when I see other people who love his work as much as I do. I lent TOTY to about a half dozen people back in the era of CD’s. None of them really liked it. Something must’ve been wrong with their ears.
Frank black is on some other shit. Even back in the day his music was destined to stand the test of time. Fuck just look at the sunglasses he makes fat guys look cool as shit
TOFTY still gives me the feels all these years later. It's a special album and is head and shoulders above his Pixies stuff. There, I said it; I feel better.
here because of the Teenager of the Year 30th Anniversary gigs (London + Paris). Cant quite believe it is actually happening. And the full line up as well - bosh!
thank you so much for preserving this. I don't know how you did it, but you should be commended! This is fantastic and exactly what UA-cam was invented for!
I know everyone was sad/mad when the Pixies vaporized overnight (including me) but had they not, we never would have gotten the first few Frank Black albums. "Teenager" is an especially monumental achievement of varied musical styles and brilliant lyrics and will stand the test of time like all classics.
I was HIGH AF with a buddy who turned me onto this album when it came out. Read the lyrics with the tunes front to back... seriously change my music taste in about one hour. Song writing at its BEST.
I listened to Frank and the Pixies all night and then in the morning the words where stuck in my head and things go weird..... The lyrics are so amazing best songwriter of all time.
oh yes , when he puts the rock hammer down , he is unstoppable . Saw one of his 95 European Tour gig and also had my head blown off . 20 songs in 60 mins . They are back with the Pixies this summer ...Touring the Us , Australia , N-Z and Japan in the fall .
who could of have known , at that time,, what an epic recording TOTY was and , Live .. however soon. all would come to recognize the musical force and melodic treasures were there all along and Thank's...FB , CT BF.. We love You !!
@deathkampdrone if you had to pick between T.O.T.Y abd his 93 self titled...which would it be? remember that the 93 album has los angeles and i heard ramona sing
Side to the side to the side to the side to the paddle to the paddle. (Not deep or unique, just necessary for each of us to say at some time - says I).

that album is as good as anything hes done with pixies
I impotently wished for an "Islands of Phoenix" tour in 2016 but the Pixies are just too valuable a concern to interrupt, it seems. Ah well!
He opened for the Ramones acid eaters tour........this was awesome. Yep I was lucky....teenager of the top 10 albums of all time to me.

Fucking Frank Black and Lyle Workman. This is the Chanel N°5 of indie rock guitars.
Wow...if these 3 songs are not recognized as " Hall of Famers" , well then I just don't know what that museum is even for...Right on Frank B
They need to add a " hopelessly clueless " wing , speaking of course to whomever makes the induction decisions..
he's just a big fat legend
Pretty remarkable that Frank can still speak.
TOFTY still gives me the feels all these years later. It's a special album and is head and shoulders above his Pixies stuff. There, I said it; I feel better.

5 intense minutes with No pauses!
Great example to how start a gig, belting out the first few songs to captivate the audience!!!
I saw a couple of these shows and I still remember having my head completely blown off. INSANELY GREAT.
