    I LOVE this show !!!
    My grandparents were born in Hungary and lived next door to us on the farm in Virginia, so my Mother talked Hungarian to them sometimes.
    I discovered Hungarian embroidery at an event in town, and went out and bought an embroidery stich book, a few threads, and found a Dover library book with Hungarian designs. The first designs I stitched were more pastels, until I studied the subject more and and started using the bolder colors.
    When I got tired of sewing I used the folk art designs and transferred them for watercolors.
    Thanks so much for the lovely presentation - LOL

    Fascinating! So many of the Hungarian motifs remind me of Mexican folk art.

      Ikr, I mentioned in previous videos how much I love mexican & Latin American visuals, but didn't realise the connection until I started researching for this video ☺️ thank you for watching! 👋 Laz

    👏👏👏 So very interesting Laz, thank you for the 🇭🇺 Hungary history lesson, the craft symbolism and differences in regions. That's exactly what I love to know about art - everything! I've always noticed there is symmetry in alot of their craft like mirror images. Any special reason? Thank you for reminding us we are all the same, related and we belong to one race...the "human" race. 🌏

    • @dantierandbalogh
      @dantierandbalogh  3 місяці тому

      I believe the reason behind striving for symmetry, is that these decor elements usually were added onto symmetric things eg. dresses, gates, wooden chests, etc. It's just my educated guess though :) thank you for watching

    I collect painted folk art (Australian style native flowers, so not really traditional folk art) painted on wood as decor. Folk art makes me smile. Puts me in my happy place. I think it's a beautiful art form.

    Love learning about other cultures and to see the embroidery is especially inspiring. Is it mainly a type of crewel embroidery or are they using regular floss?

      Hi, I'm by no means an embroidery expert, but just like the design styles, the techniques and types of materials used are also differ from region to region ☺️ thanks for watching! 👍 Laz

    When we left Grandma and Grandpa's at night, we used to say, "Kissing in the pig pen!"
    Thank you for everything! They died when I was 10.
    I found out how to spell it: Koszonom Szepen.
