I am not doing the Bible memory but I'm doing something that I have found to be extremely beneficial to my own spiritual growth and hopefully help my children. As I read each book of the Bible, I make an overview of the book adding my "ah ha" moments of things that stuck out to me and how I saw God's character displayed. I try to incorporate some cultural customs of the day which helps explain the significance of the events. Eventually, I want to have this for each book and then compile it into one book for each of my kids as a keepsake.
I've been working on this for about a year but I've learned so much about God's character and this activity has really made God's word come alive. I don't know if anyone else would be interested in doing this but i thought that i would share. God bless your sweet family.

    Hi John and Alyssa! 😊
I have been watching you since 2015 on the Bringing Up The Bates!
Thank you for being willing Vessels that God can use to help others. You are genuine and honest about how you need God’s help in your everyday lives. You are a true blessing to the Kingdom!
    Blessings to you all ❤

The way I have always approached the birds and bees topics with my kids is with the mindset that its only as awkward as you, the parent, make it. Its a natural part of life and isn't something that should be embarrassing, especially because I want my kids to always feel comfortable coming to me with any concerns or questions...whether it be inaccurate things they hear from kids at school or even something medical.

Great q&a. You're definitely not snobby. It's ok to be guarded and have boundaries when it comes to fame and social media. I think the perception comes from your level of perfectionism when it comes to cleaning and matching clothes and how well you are put together. People tend to stereotype that that's a personality which is snobby which is unfair and untrue. You are a wonderful person, mom and wife. My complaint with the videos is constant music playing and it's not even background music the volume is up. Why editor, why? Thanks for sharing you guys are awesome!

Great on the Bible memorization. I love to go to bed after memorizing a verse. If I wake up in the night the verse will be on my mind. And it will come come into my mind at random times and I think Where did that come from? Learn as much when you’re young. It’s much harder when you’re older.

I think first names are absolutely perfect for the in-laws and the married children. you're all adults and if they tell you to call them by their first name, then that is what would make them most comfortable. I'm sure they understand and appreciate that you respect them all. But the grandma and the grandpa monikers do work once you have kids.

It’s easier the past 2 I think because we have like the 3 older ones who can help so much more now which’s is honestly so so helpful! Y’all have a beautiful family! I hope y’all continue to be open to having more children. They are such a blessing and you will never regret having more! ❤

I don’t think you’re stuck up at all. And I’ve always sort of had this gift that when someone talks to me I can listen to them for about two minutes and know if I should get to know them better or if I should be praying for them. Sometimes not everyone is going to be a great fit as a friend. I can be cordial and nice to people when they speak to me but it doesn’t mean that I’m going to become their best friend and that’s ok. Someone left that on a Q&A that Katie and Travis got a little while back and I felt so bad for Katie. She told the person that it made her feel very sad because she doesn’t think that she’s stuck up. You just have to know to ignore those things that people say on your channel, when you do a Q&A. I think that you and John are wonderful parents. My husband and I had two boys and then along came the little girl I had always wanted. I was so used to having boys that when they told me she was a girl I remember telling the anesthesiologist, I ended up with a C-section on my last baby, I told the anesthesiologist no, I have boys. I told him I didn’t know anything about raising little girls and he said to me well, you’re a girl and I said I know but, my mama raised me. After I got to come home from the hospital I started thinking about how dumb that sounded. All three of my kids are grown now and I have seven grandsons. The youngest is five. I have no problem with them being all boys. Y’all have a great weekend. Hugs from the southeast coast of Florida😎🦩🌞🦩😎

Regarding using first names for in-laws (or your elders in general). I used to struggle with calling my elders by their first names until one day an elderly man from my church said please call me by my first name, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. I love watching your channel and feel we have a lot in common. We have 4 young girls as well, no boy… yet 😂 idk if we will have a 5th I have extremely difficult pregnancies as well. Can I suggest you turn the background music off or down Or wear mics. I could not hear this Q&A hardly at all. I’m 34 and I know I’m semi hard of hearing but at a lot of parts in this video the music was super loud. I almost stopped watching but then somewhere in the middle it got quiet and then picked up super loud again. I know it must be strange editing this and just listening to yourselves talk and you may think you are boring us but you aren’t! We clicked on it to watch and I’d love to be able to hear it lol.
I’ve struggled to even memorize just verses of the Bible, that’s inspiring that ya’ll are memorizing chapters and possibly books. I may need to try that.

The paci: my daughter sucked her thumb until she was 13. People would constantly ask me about it, pushed me & I would say, “she self soothes and my other two didn’t take a paci or suck a thumb and needed braces. Her father and I had braces. She’s fine”. She’s 29, a wonderful woman of God, well rounded, great mom and business owner. She had braces and is stunning. They’ll be fine w a paci or thumb until they’re ready to stop.

How right you are. It is amazing to me how the older you get, the more sense it makes, but I remembered being criticized for letting mine keep their bottles for a long time. Both of my older kids felt a little jealous that the baby had a bottle and they didn't, so I started a once a week baby night for them. I would each a bottle and carry them and put them to bed like a baby. They tell me that is some of their best memories and they are now in their 40s and did the same for their kids!

@@carolnichols2869 the little things, we, as parents, know because God entrusted us with these children. Ultimately, I, as their mom, had to follow my heart and not let the other people and their opinions get to me. Having three, well adjusted, successful adult children with families of their own, now. I get to reap the rewards of doing my best. Certainly I made many mistakes and they’re well aware of those. They’re doing better and I ham quite certain their children will do even better. I broke many generational curses in our family. Through the grace of God, constant sanctification and many prayers, I’m so blessed to have the three children and their beautiful families in my life and have them still come to me for tips and help when they need it. What a blessing to have. Parenting is such a difficult yet the most rewarding thing I’ll have have experienced, outside of my relationship with God and my husband.

Your comment about Maci was almost word for word something out of a book by Gary Chapman called "The 5 Love Languages of Children"! I'm a mom of 8 and just now reading this book - oh, how I would love to have had this book with my first. I've made so many mistakes in not realizing my children's love languages at times and now strongly encourage parents to get this book. Many things I've learned already over the years, but it's still been a great read!

My husband and I are so alike that when argue we react the same way! I say something sarcastically, he just goes off by himself. We both have to have time to ourselves and then we always talk about it! We just get mad at each other but we've never had a full fight or argument.

I only have 4, but 2 to 3 was definitely the hardest for us. 4 just kind of added to the already chaotic day to day 😂
