Better than their friends the Duggar’s.
This feels much more natural and loving than watching the Duggars. I can honestly say, I watched the duggers because Inwas curious... I watch the bates because its genuinely fun, warm and loving.
I was just thinking the same. They are so sweet to each other. Doesn’t feel fake.
They endorse David pearl and blanket training just like the duggars

@@kristencollins4057 that's only a part of it. The Duggars give too much adult responsibility to their kids. It's common for siblings to be less affectionate towards their siblings when parental responsibilities are enmeshed with sibling responsibilities. The Bates children help each other out with parental instruction. The Duggar children give and enforce parental instruction.
That's because the Duggars had to worry about INCEST.
The Bates seem to have a stronger moral compass. All the children seem to genuinely love each other AND others. The Duggars however seem to love themselves and their image....many of the older girls seem extremely VAIN....I've not seen the vanity with the Bates family, even with the girls being BEAUTIFUL...they don't completely focus on their outward appearances....the duggar girls do.....the more makeup the better for them. I used to like them, but the more seasons I watched, the less I liked of the families characters.....a few of them seem to be sociopathic...like daddy Duggar.

Her face just lit up when she saw the gifts! He was so worried she wouldn’t like them.
I know a lot of non-religious people scoff at families like the Bates, but I think there is an old time charm about them. Reminds me of a simpler time when people really cared about others, instead of electronics or other material things. I hope their show is a success and that they don't fall into the pitfalls of scandal, like another large tv family did.

I loved watching the Bates kids growing.
I was brought up I a religious house hold but I think they are way better than the duggar but I definitely don't agree with the blanket training
It's deffinetly a major difference from the Duggars, I feel like the Bates show much more emotion, individuality, and genuine love for one another. I really enjoy this show and will keep watching :)

I haven't watched the Bates', but as someone said, maybe Dugger show is more staged...or produced in settings set up by the producers...Also, remember that personalities of people can make a difference in the way the interact with others...some people are very reserved...others more outgoing...
I really love the Bates so much more than the Duggars. The kids seem much more well-adjusted and happier, plus the parents absolutely adore every single child they have. You can feel the love.

Every family is different especially the way they choose to raise their kids and things they choose to celebrate.. Hate to say the duggars brought me to these ppl and they have more followers not that it matters b/c we all know it's due to tlc heavy marketing but I know the duggars longer and just leanrn of the Bates, so far both families are blessed and a clear blessing to others.

It seems like although their family is large as well they seem more personable with their children and affectionate. Gil goes to appointments and you see them using endearing terms and seem warmer with their children. They seem happier as a family. I like the Duggar family too but to me the Bates family is more refreshing to watch.

I like Gil's personality and humor better than Jim Bob's. Gil seems sweeter and not so uppity about certain things and his jokes are actually funny and not rude-sounding. :P I still love the Duggars, but this family seems so much more like real and seem to really love each other. I think they show emotion a lot more and don't try to fake it.

Impressed at how well and quickly Kelly got back into things after giving birth!
Gil and Kelley seem like the genuinely are interested in what their kids do and really support them. While I don't agree with their religious views, I respect them so much more than the Duggars. Jim Bob seems burdened by having so many kids while Gil gets in there and talks to the kids on their level. Plus the idea of "I love you day" would never go over with the Duggars.

I love the BATES family. They are so genuine. They are actually like a happy, godly family. And Gil and Kelly take care of there own kids and seem to be great parents, and the kids (even the girls) get to speak there mind and act like normal kids without doing the parents responsibilities. They make me smile and laugh more than my own family does. They just rock! Opposite of the Duggar quivercult clan who act and sound fake. You can't even compare these two families besides the fact that they both have 19 kids
Jessa is the MOST fake of them all. I would be willing to bet money she was a "mean girl" to her siblings....and secretly is jealous of some of her sisters. It's been rumored that she bullied Jana.

I love the idea of 'I love you day' opposed to it being just 'Valentine's Day'. Kids of all ages can get involved. They can look at themselves and what makes them special, then what makes other people special, and telling those that are special to you that you love them.
I am one of a very large French catholic beloved family ..I compare us standing in between the two televised families ..never, ever would we dare criticize our upbringing..of course us elder children put in more than our share as our parents both worked 2 jobs to pay mortgage, we never ran out of food ..we were privileged to music lessons, scoutism, dance and gymnastics ..we were very aware that our papa broke the alcoholism plague from his LARGE FAMILY ..as adults we mend our downfalls with the offending sibbling ..end of story ..Bravo Bates ❤ family..moi, 🇨🇦

I’m not religious at all and I do not agree with the Bates’ religion, but I have to give credit where its due. The Bates family is family goals. I mean Gil interacts with his children. When I saw Gil talk with one of the daughters, I melted. So sweet!
I’m not super religious either but I believe if that’s the lifestyle they enjoy I respect that. I truly believe they love all of their children equally. The Duggar’s have favorite kids I think, yes they do love them but I believe they have their favorites. I don’t think the Bates have favorites.
I can’t imagine why you would not agree with their religious belief. It is a basic belief in God, Christ. and the Holy Spirit, and that the Bible is the word of God. Now you may be Jewish or Muslim, but other than that their belief is the same as the basic belief of all other Christian denominations. The media has tried to make it seem like something strange and different. You might like to watch Pastor Gil Bates on Sundays where he is the pastor of East Tennessee Bible Baptist Church. It is live streamed on Sunday mornings and evening and also on Wednesday’s. He is a wonderful and inspired preacher. The children who are still at home go to church there and occasionally the others who are married will attend when they visit home. All the children who are married seem to be very active in the churches they attend near them.

While I still think their views are incredibly backwards and fucked up, the Bates do seem to genuinely love and enjoy their children. Jim Bob Duggar can't even fucking name half his kids, and Michelle is very obviously detached from all of them. The kids seem more like trophies to them. Gil and Kelly really show a lot of affection towards their kids. And I think Kelly showed more emotion over her sick newborn than Michelle ever showed over her premature daughter and later miscarriage.

+cheesecake134 Remember though TLC became their source of income, much like a family business would be for a man who had 3 or 4 kids. It's hard working for your parents as a young kid, I've been there. You can't let "the world" see anything "bad" about you or your family or else you'll loose your income. And yes we only see 1 part of their lives because it is a show, and it is for money.

I don't agree with some of their religious beliefs but regardless, it really is just astounding much more relaxed and genuinely happy the Bates family seems compared to the Duggars. Their kids seem MUCH more relaxed and really just less like they have to be so smily and well behaved all the time and the parents seem like pretty laid back people who like joking around and just being goofy with their kids. And watching Gil joke around with the little girls about how they're going to pay for their presents was very sweet, he seems like a pretty devoted, nice dad.
Maybe they haven't got any deep dark secrets they are worried about coming out.
The sweet love shared with each other in your family brings tears to my eyes. Good ones. ♡

❣❣ BEAUTIFUL FAMILY.. You guys are all LUCKY to have such AMAZING parents...
This makes me so happy, especially the dinner and gifts at the end and how thankful they were for each other. I am an only child who came from a horribly broken family and a mother who wanted to ignore me all of my formative years, so I'll admit I'm rather hardened towards children and families because I haven't spent any time around them and don't know how to act. This actually made me well up a bit because having that love there is the most important thing, and fosters happy and healthy children and prosperous adults; I can attest that a horrible family environment or a bad/ abusive parent can make you physically unwell and struggle with your health.
This family is sweet to see, they have good values and teach their kids, but don't go crazy with it, and to this day, they love on and spend time with all their kids and let them make their own decisions.
Wonderful model of a family trying their best.
A lot of people here are bigots and only bash them because they are Christians. Don't stress out too much....a LOT of us grew up in less than ideal circumstances. Too bad your heart is sooo hardened that you never felt Human warmth watching this loving family interact. Shame on you....

She said her heat wad hardened to have her OWN family due to the fact that she's never experienced love like that and it overwhelms her to think she COULD not feel love for children....(to the girl who posted the comment--you can though lovely, if you're reading this...you aren't your mother. Mine abandoned me are age 7 and I never heard from her again for 30 years until I found her.... I am not my mother. You will love your own children. To think, Gil in his early years said he didn't like children at all....look at them now, 19 of them later!!)

I'm not religious at all, but I love this family. Gil is an amazing dad, Kelly is a lovely mom. They both seem so genuine and affectionate, and very involved, and it shows with how balanced and verbal their kids are.
I love how they put formal clothes on the kids and then served spaghetti and sauce for them to mess them up ^^

This family is just so natural and seem so we'll adjusted. There is genuine happiness in their household and they don't seem to be so uptight and like they're trying to prove something like their counterparts here in Arkansas. I really enjoyed watching them. And that little one, Callie, is so adorable I can't stop laughing at the way she talks and reacts to things. These folks seem to be the real deal and I congratulate them on their happy family.
They seem like very good people. I really respect them. I also like the way they worship God.

I don't remember ever seeing this episode or in fact, this series. It was wonderful seeing everyone little and know now how they are grown with families of their own.
What a nice family with beautiful children , they are a great team working together to run the house and looking after the children . My favorite is little Callie not because I coincidentally have a sister with the same name but little Callie Bates just has the most endearing personality and is super cute . I could just hug that cute little munchkin and kiss that sweet little nose what a lovely little angel .

The Duggar kids all look so southern and plain with the exception of Jessa. Whereas the bates children are genuinely attractive (especially Lawson 😍). none are plain.
Southern and plain? Have you ever been to the south? I live in Alabama and I'll tell you that there are a lot of genuinely attractive people here, the difference between some of the things that the Bates and the Duggers do, is wear much more modest clothes and hairstyles and they wear very little makeup. These days females pretty much paint their faces on, use so many hair extensions, eyelash extensions, get spray tans, etc, that what you see is often not their real beauty. If you did up any of the Bates or Duggar girls in all that body paint that women wear these days, they would look just the same. But yes, Jessa is absolutely gorgeous, she has one of those faces that even totally bare is more beautiful that almost anyone you will see.

This is an awesome show! I think there are lessons that can be learned from them. They teach us to love and respect each other , honor God, responsibility,how to work together, and so much more. This is a show that all families should watch!! I enjoy this show immensely. PLEASE. BRING IT BACK

The Bates family is genuine. They have such love for each other, as well love for all people. Their love for God is beautiful and it comes through in all they say and do.

This happened to our son when he was born.I had a C-section and all of the fluids that usually get squeezed out while coming through the birth canal did not come out..I noticed as soon as they held him up for me to look at him that his was kind of grasping for breath and I asked if that was ok? and then they started working on him..He spent 3 days in the NICCU but praise God he came home with us on the fourth day with no more issues to worry about..
At least Kelly actually tells her kids to take a break from doing housework (and sounds genuinlely grateful) for them doing so much work around the house, instead of just expecting them to do it all of the time, like Michelle does.
This family just always gave me the best vibes. They are all so sweet!
I'd love a where are they now of sorts for the Bates, their energy is so refreshing. The sibling dynamic seems way healthier. Dad jokes are actually sigh funny instead of the cringey JB. Momma Bates seems to actually know her kids!! Just wholesome. Definitely a good quarantine break.
