Ok...absolutely LOVED this video! Every single thing! About to make this tonight. But on another note, Haitians are some clean ass people!!! As soon as I can, I'm gonna marry one!
I am a Jamaican, but I ate this on a trip in Martinique! (I met a few Haitian friends who lived there). It was SO delicious and I just have to try this recipe for myself to get a different taste from our own rice and peas. I'll probably reply with an update when I do!
I am proud of you this is the way you have to do it your mother was teaching you so good only thing you don't have to match it to much the way you put the spoon yes in Haiti isn't for everything you need a measure but you have to use your commonsense or your brain l give you 200/100 sometimes some people like to put coconut🥥 milk if depend the area in Haiti the person came from per example archahaie , leogane that l know. for my area Artibonite you put coconut milk 🥥 rarely
So new sub here... My gran video called on Whatsapp and said "timoun yo meg, fe manje pou yo" but like her instructions were like chopped cause of connection. Thank you. Thank you! Cause I gotta send her a pic once it's done and now I think I can do it.
Thank you, yes I do use coconut milk in some of my recipes when making rice I even have some on my channel where I’m using coconut milk. Thank you for the knowledge about the cloves now I know.
@@cookingwithfreddie no prob! You’re welcome. I’m new to your channel. Just learning. You’re a great cook. Be easy on the maggi. It’s HIGH in sodium & msg, which is bad.
I think I’m brave enough to try. I just never know when to stir. If I stir it gets too mushy or pasty. My best friend told me a good rice maker is said to be born with a gift of diri.
Friend you got this! I have faith in you…follow my directions and it will come out great and please come back to let me know how it went once you make it.
@@cookingwithfreddieoh my! Oh my! Oh my! I made it!!! It is delicious. Thank you thank you thank you. I had to go back for your epis recipe of course. I didn’t have all the ingredients, but man. It is soooooo good
Looks delicious, but it's too much trouble. Nothing anyone wants to deal with after a hard day's work and arthritis. We've done great black beans and rice in minutes with canned beans, herbs, spices, butter, sour cream, pico de gallo, hot sauce, etc.
I understand your point of view but I would rather boil my beans. I hate processed can beans it’s not to much trouble to me. Plus it’s more cost effective. Do whatever is best for you hon.
I seen how you didn’t add salt when ur were cooking the beans in the beginning. Is it okay to add the salt when first cooking the beans so that the water from the beans is already salted ?
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, I have a question. I'm Haitian but I honestly hate beans, but I LOVE brown rice. So do you know how we make it without the beans?
When I make rice I have a hard time measuring how much rice to put and then sometimes my rice comes out pasty. When is it necessary to put coconut milk in your rice?
“Next you’re going to add Epis” Me: Dang, I have no idea what that is or how to make it Freddie: “ And if you don’t know how to make Epis, YOU KNOW I GOTCHU!” Me: “🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾😆”

How long do you boil the beans
45 minutes to 1 hour
@@cookingwithfreddie thank you so much! I followed ur ingredients but undercooked the beans. This is very helpful!
I seen how you didn’t add salt when ur were cooking the beans in the beginning. Is it okay to add the salt when first cooking the beans so that the water from the beans is already salted ?
You can boo but I never make it that way. It will have salt if you do it the way I told u boo trust me.
NO Canned Beans!!!! We must cook from scratch, so our husband don't leave us. 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🔥🔥🔥
Not so our husband don’t leave us lol 😂
correct ✅
What was that baking soda about?
Makes the beans boil faster but u don’t have to add it
Baking soda will give a weird aftertaste to the diri. I can taste the difference how ever small amount have been used.
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, I have a question. I'm Haitian but I honestly hate beans, but I LOVE brown rice. So do you know how we make it without the beans?
Hey try boiling the beans use the beans water to make the rice and dispose of the beans. That way you can still get the color.
But does that habanero (?) pepper make it spicy?
When I make rice I have a hard time measuring how much rice to put and then sometimes my rice comes out pasty. When is it necessary to put coconut milk in your rice?
It’s optional to put coconut milk it gives the rice an amazing flavor
I'm Haitian I can teech you how to make rice
i remember it having cloves

You know I got you friend 😉
Small or medium pot?
Medium pot
at what point did she add the butter?
Towards the end before I suffocate it
Why when I’m cleaning the beans it’s giving blueish water no mater how much times I rinse
It’s fine friend just boil them you do not have to wait until the water run clear
To znam da skuvam naučili me u Haiti
Are you Haitian
Definitely good recipe. No salt please to boil the beans they will be be on that fire for life and never cook.
What oil is used
Vegetable but any kind of oil will do
Is Epis mandatory ???? Would it still be good without it ?
Epis is mandatory
Oh Lord yes! Epis is very important for taste.
Without it it’s not Haitian. Every Haitian dish that needs epis must have it. Also it makes it taste good
No coconut milk?
It’s a choice you don’t have to add it. I have a video when I added it and one when I didn’t
I use can for convenience and im ayicien🤷🏿♂️🇭🇹
