Super cool video stepping back a few years into the toy industry. Those tall star wars action figures were very cool for their day I can't believe they didn't sell out.

The funny thing like the western themed sets they had other sets from Gabriel that had the Lone Ranger and Zorro I would have easily bought those other playsets and other items as they fit the other no problem. The problem was that if you didn't shop at Toys R Us you couldn't get a lot of these.

The Fast 111's were COOL, I still have a few. I received the Han Solo doll for Christmas, strangly he didn't have his boots or blaster. Also, I remember in the 70's Sears carrying the 12" Alien figure on the toy shelf .

I remember my aunt buying me the 12 inch Luke. It was fun for awhile but without other figures to interact with I just went back to the 3.75 inch figures.

I never had a creature cantina set growing up and that didn't really bother me. Now I'm thinking I might want to pick up that Real West saloon and populate it with my Star Wars figures.

The Problem with the Indiana Jones line was that kids didn't want to play with Indiana Jones, they wanted to play as Indiana Jones. Kenner would have been better off selling a costume/whip play set. The reason I didn't like the Micro Collection (as a kid) was that the figures weren't articulated.

4:39 - I had these all when I was a kid, these sets were cheaper than action figure sets....of course could you imagine how awesome this set would be if they upscaled it for regular Star Wars figures? Turning platforms, ejecting out windows, and most the main action locations of Bespin.....they should have forgot 'micro size' and gave kids these cool sets in the right size for the regular line.

fast 111s were awesome. and Butch and Sundance had the first William Katt figure (before The Greatest American Hero line) and OC Hanks, likely the only Brian Dennehy figure that was ever made of him in the 70s or 80s even though he was an action star (sometimes the villain, sometimes the hero, like in F/X). I got Sundance with my own money at Best Products in 1979 (I still have him with no legs , which fell off in 1980-1 or so), but the next time I went to the store it was all gone.

The Star Wars Dolls weren't a failure. For every 100 3.75 inch figure Kenner Sold, they sold one large doll. It was just clear that they needed to focus on the 3.75 inch line.

Those Star Wars Micro collections I think failed since the figures were non-posable like the bigger figures.

The 'Congo' toy line and movie lacked two very important ingredients....
    Tintin and Snowy!
Oh and a yellow (don't ask me why it was black on the cover, but yellow in the colour editions of the book, my money is that it was a Easter egg reference to a line referring to a 'yellow roadster' in the MGM classic 'Tarzan Escapes!' but maybe I'm looking) Model T Ford for them to ride in!!!
Plus a rhino toy with break away parts in order to act out the part where Tintin blows it up.
    Nuff Said!

Kenner definitely had their fair share of "oops we did it again" with screwing up and making toys that we as kids just didn't care to play with. And the whole part of Indiana Jones toys they should have released them along with the movie for us to have wanted to play with them, cool line but just too late, I loved my ark of the covenant which I have a rereleased one.

I had the Indiana Jones action figure, he was the only one I wanted out of that toy line. We'd have him search for artifacts and use Cobra and Imperial action figures and vehicles as the bad guys trying to get the artifact first, and Rebels and Joes as allies helping him. Those were some of the most fun games we had!

The original Star Wars figures were also released almost a full year after the movie. So, the Indiana Jones line being a year late really shouldn't have had that much of an effect on its success. I think the fact that every Indiana Jones toy line has failed says that there is just something about Indiana Jones that doesn't translate well to action figures.
Probably because kids just want an Indiana Jones toy and don't really care about anything else. Or maybe Indiana Jones is better suited as role playing toy line. Kind of like how there has never really been a truly successful western action figure line, but they still sell western-themed role playing toys today.

I had the Indiana Jones action figure, but he was the only character I had out of that toy line because he was the only one I wanted. I used to make him look for artifacts and used Cobra and Imperial action figures as the bad guys trying to get the artifact first.

I had the star wars Micro Bespin base with micro Boba Fett and the huge Boba Fett, as well as several Boba Fett regular action figures. As a fan of comic books, I used them to make Fett have the powers of Giant Man (Marvel) - shrinking & growing, and Multiple Man (Marvel).

Fast111's did go on for three years, so while they're not among the die-cast giants like Matchbox or Hot Wheels they had a little staying power, a few of the molds even got turned into Matchboxes down the line.
The Star Wars Micro Line angers me a little because it seems Kenner was trying to cheapen things with a smaller scale and non-articulated figures and it cost us what would of probably been a nice 3 3/4 inch Cloud City playset.

The 12" figures of Star Wars were so cool. I had Han, Stormtrooper and Boba Fett. They were awkward to play with. All became the boyfriend's of many Barbie dolls. Imagine Barbie Fett?

I liked those Raiders Of The Lost Ark toys. Seemed Toys R Us had a few of the playsets left over up until the late 80s/early 90s. Kay Bee used to carry the Indy/Raiders Of the Lost Ark action figures, but like when Toys R Us first had them, you couldn't find any of the playsets. What was even more annoying the Indiana Jones and Marion figures seemed to be impossible to find. I could find Indy in the Nazi disguise and mainly figures of the bad guys. Toys R Us pretty much had all the same figures except Indy and Marion. Then once the figures disappeared from toy store shelves,Toys Us had the Map Room and Streets Of Cairo playsets along with that Desert Trunk that Indy stopped in the movie(the trunk carrying the Ark away).

You know, the reason as a kid i disliked the large SW do-er, um ACTION FIGURES was a) you couldnt sneak em in yr pocket into places you shouldnt. Like school, a friend's church, funerals etc.
    B) they were freakin DOLLS. (Even if i had Boba Fett and loved him, he stayed in my drawer, lest my dick uncle see it and ask me about my "dolly".)
