Just because your last name is Dylan doesn't mean your grandfathered in, this song speaks epic proportions of depression, life and just general emotions!!! August 1,2021 and this song still gives me the chills and goosebumps today as it did when I first heard it and saw the video on MTV!! Thank you Wallflowers for such an honest, beautifully written and timeless song!! I wish music nowadays was this raw, real and full of emotion.🔥
Don't know why but my heart literally aches every time I listen to this song. Great memories of my childhood. Music kept me going! How I miss the 90s and early 2000.
rush thatspeaks 6 Avenue is where the homeless man played his guitar in New York, songs that Jakob knew... then suddenly one day the homeless man was gone but his belongings where still there.
@Ginge Herman in addition to this song, “Name” by the Goo Goo Dolls is just an incredible piece of music and further proof that 90’s music was the best
The black line drawn on you and then me applies to everyone’s lives. It’s the simplicity of understanding or imagining yourself in someone else’s shoes, in which I’m metaphorically speaking; meaning someone’s life.
This even trips me out...but as a young boy I was "in love" with a girl who didn't reciprocate the equivalent of my sentiment. It was innocent and genuine and I just wanted to be accepted as I was this quirky and eccentric teenager who liked Marilyn Manson and NIN etc. I was likable and smart and very athletic but had a dark side and a morbid sense of humor so kids feared me and my big brains and girls were oddly intimidated by my wits and conversations lol. Because I was trapped in a time portal so to speak of finding myself older generations favored me...sort of an "old soul" I think. It's laughable now, but I lived in a very very small town in the quiet parts of Texas and had nobody. No friends and nothing to do...so I wondered the streets alone and just ran like Forest Gump all day and night to burn off the inner turmoil and angst. I had such potential and was trapped in my own mind and this town. One day I remember hearing this song...and wow...how I could relate to it.. The small school right in the middle of town where I went from Kindergarten until I graduated as a senior was on "6th Avenue" (Street). It had such a unique meaning to me. 6th AVENUE HEARTACHE. I think I suffered some form of depression for years but now I'm 38 and have an amazing career and kids and the perfect wife...as you stated Kirk ....perspective buddy. Life is good. Take care.
@@RealFunFuneral976 wow you sound very much like I am and who I was in my younger years except I don't have kids and never really had any luck and success with careers. Life hasn't really ever been kind to me. At times I feel that the whole world, the whole universe, and God is against me punishing me. Anyways I've suffered enough heartache because of people.
I was homeless many times and in many different places for many years. At 36 i finally got help. I suffered trauma from an abusive alcoholic father. 12 yrs old i was on the corner trying to fill my addiction. Got hiv at 24,hep c too, chirosis too. Today ive been sober 28 yrs. 64 in November. @EaTaLLYouRFisH Pretty much the same take - ...same "black line" drawn on you that was drawn on me. Notice the passive verb, as in the individual had no say in it. A polka dot stripe would be odd, but a black line - that's a little heavier, a little more ominous.
What a classic tune. So many memories brought back listening to this. How does so much talent exist in one family? Bobs music has always been relatable to me and his sons is the same thing. Unbelievable writing from not one, but two great artists.
Great song! I heard it the other day on a local radio station. I googled the song and read a bit on it. Interestingly, one of my favorite guitarists, Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, plays the slide guitar on this track!
I like this song. This song though always puts me in the mind of some of the most hard things, I've endured in life. A lot of things that happened to me that weren't right. Even down to losing love ones who I cared about and loved so much. It's been a hard life for me more than people know.
Find someone you can rely on and let them rely on you. Sorry for the fortune cookie line but it’s real. Hopefully you find someone who lifts you out of misery. Hopefully you pay back what you can. Life is mutual.
It's a pole were by poler or something I finally understand when looking through the posters at the head shop the clerk said your by poster and thought I have no money maybe she will trade and I put it on a credit card and visa has the new 401k and r for diabetics
Had the single with this, Angel On My Bike and One Headlight. Wore out the CD traveling when I'd have to leave my boyfriend to come home. One time I was crying so hard on the plane that the person next to me requested another seat. I've loved him since 1989, just talked to him tonight, 2023. Our life just took different paths.
My one true love passed a couple years ago and although we were not tg years n years I loved him hard and deep. I just still can not believe the love of my soul n true best friend is gone. No matter in life where I was or what I was doing he was in my thoughts often.
I was just watching FRIENDS & this was a song at one of their parties! I had forgotten how much I love this song. Especially since I’m by 6th Avenue ❤️
I love the harmonies. trying to learn to sing both parts, it's in my range. The thing is putting the correct infasis on the right sillable that is harder than hitting the notes on both parts.
Being born in 81 has been absolutely amazing from songs leaving the 70s and then carried to the 80s then the 80s new bands then the 90s grunge and alternative with really good country and rap and hip hop with r&b then we have the 2000s :( that is all
dude i need to buy this on cd, just like some old geezer buys vinyl. i liked one headlight and then a good friend had the album. we just cruised around the town with nothing to do, listening to the whole album. everyone song was good. just blew me away, as so often back in the day you would buy an album because of a hit song and then all the others sucked. i really need to see what other albums they have done. i would put this song up there with any other great songs in rock in roll history. it was a song, when the first time you heard, you felt you had known it your entire life. maybe it was heavily influenced by some other great songs and I am not connecting the dots. this song is going to be timeless i think.
Had this album when I was like 10 or so.. If only more bands from the 90's had this great of a sound. Just love that hammond organ, it's like sex for my ears
I saw them in a small club in SF in 1995? 1996? I knew most of their music and they were great. I am a Bob Dylan fan too - but his son's style is way different! I was very disappointed to hear that the Wallflowers broke up!
Man I've been down on that 6th avenue, with that same black line drawn on me,, depression it kills some, but we somehow have to fight it.its a hard road to ride
I used to do a lot of busking (singing for tips on the street) when I lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. One evening, a girl no older than maybe 17 or so came up to me and asked for this song while it was a new hit, and I gladly played it for her. She loved the Wallflowers and admitted to a huge fangirl crush on Jakob.. I'll never forget how amused I was when she said: "At last--there's a SEXY Dylan!"
I always said bob wrote this album and gave it to his son. Now looking at it it might have been a little true considering they didn’t do much after their 2 albums
