After reading The Vagabond manga this shrine is one i want to visit in Kyoto Wow truly beautiful
I remember going there back in 2019. As a swordsman, it was truly an honor to visit the statue of my inspiration.
Religious turism is something that people don't often take into account when travelling. But it is one of the most beautiful kinds It is a different, but sense-deep experience
@cpt Such an enlightening argument
Agree, I did a pilgrimmage in Japan in 2018 and climbed Mt Fuji, it's a truly remarkable experience.
That has nothing to do with religion tho
Sooooo peaceful. How come a place bring so much peace and inspiration? Temples, shrines, ryokan, beautiful songs, spiritual energy and the list goes on.
Japanese culture is very interesting. I would love to visit one day😊
@@lexbeltran1354 Me too 😊
As someone who adores the works of Musashi’s mind, this is amazing to know that a place like this exists.
If I ever find myself taking a trip to Japan, I’m definitely making this a priority destination.
Thank you Shogo.
12 year old me read Shogun, then everything I could get my hands on in the early 90s (Eiji Yoshikawas Musashi etc.) in germany.. and it drove me to learn more about the 2-sword-samurai, even buying the 5 Rings from the meager allowance I got from my parents :)
I am a big fan of musashi, i love listening to the book of 5 rings and my favorite work of his. the 21 precepts of the dokkodo. It has helped me greatly in my life. I remain thankful for his teachings that was lucky enough to be passed down into history.
I'm obsessed w the book of 5 rings
You should read vagabond if you haven’t
@@Errupt Il get to it.
i love these cute frogy illustrations! Great video btw
seriously love the atmosphere of this shrine. it's so beautiful and feels so serene
When Shogo mentioned how "Energetic" the festivals where I laughed because I just saw the koto speak episode!
Love your videos, they really inspire me to continue on my journey into the Japanese cultures, specifically to the Katana and their symbolism. Thank you
That small red shrine! So simple yet beautiful. Bright red shrine with green trees as the background. Again, beautiful
And another place to visit, is now on my Japan Roadtrip List. What an beutiful Place
Thank you for the tour of Hachidai shrine. As a young man I read the novel Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. I read the novel to my children as well. There are many great lessons contained within it. I hope that I may visit the shrine too one day. Thank you again for a most enlightening and edifying tour.
Definitely on the bucket list of places to visit in Japan, and Kyoto especially. Kyoto looks amazing.
Beautiful Shrine! I plan to go there one day! Great job, Shogo!!!
Really Great Video!
Thank you!
Thanks for this nice information! This is a lovely place to visit! The ghost of Miyamoto Musashi looks at
You!
Yes! Arigato gozaimasu Shogo!😊
I'm really grateful these "hidden gems" Videos. Especially appreciating content revolving around Miyamoto Musashi, as I'm studying him besides schoolwork. From his storyline to his philosophy.
Much love and health to you all!❤
Your videos are always of the highest quality and the content is awesome. Many people around the world benefit from your efforts. Stay strong and live a long and happy life!
I really love this channel, its so authentic and the content fits to my interests so well. Shogo is very sympathetic and a good entertainer :D I hope i can visit Japan at some point of my life. Keep up the great work!
That was awesome 😊.
Thank you for sharing ☺️.
Thanks right on time for some relatively good motivation for the rest of my week thanks.
Cool intro music 😋👍! Thanks for posting the link to it.
A wonderful video. So serene. Thank you.
Thank you so very much Shogo! I appreciate everything you do! Musashi is a great inspiration for me and I live as closely as I can by his Dokkodo life rules. I really appreciate you for making this video! Onegaishimasu 🙏 I bow to you.
It was a honor thank you for this
Even though I am an Aussie I love the story of Musashi as written by Eiji Yoshikawa. I have read this book several times.
Thank you sincerely for this insight.😎🇦🇺
I just need to go there someday!
Superb video!
I very much enjoy the way you present, Shogo, and the editing is done well. This particular video reminded me of something I might see on the Public Broadcasting Service here in the USA. Very quaint and informative. Soothing yet entertaining. Great job! I would love to visit someday...
Wonderful place, thanks for sharing the experience 🙏✌️
I like how the shrine lumped schoolwork with fate and bad luck. We all needed some protection from schoolwork at some point so we can enjoy our fleeting youth.
Shogo! That intro song was awesome
Wonderful video
This is funny… I’m in the middle of re-reading Eiji Yoshikawa’s novel ‘Musashi’ and just got to the part about his duel with the Yoshioka School.
What an exquisite place.. It looks hard to reach - I'm sure, being overweight, I would be too exhausted. Thanks for sharing it with the world. Another unique thing to see - Shogo in regular street clothes.
Awesome!
pleasing/calming video 😀
Thanks Shogo for your great story, the shrine is really beautiful I would like to visit such an old and historical place, I hope one day . But right now I am enjoying your videos and taking notes. ありがとう.
Thank you Shogo for bringing us there to visit! I hope to visit one day and experience how the terrain feels myself. I am sure it's different now, but I bet some of it feels similar. This is the battle where he showed up really early I believe. I don't idolize battles but I find them amazingly interesting nevertheless!
Hey Shogo, Takeru and Tomoko, what a beautiful video, calm and relaxing. I'm looking forward to the second video "Kyoto Hidden Gem"
Kind regards to you all. Um Abraço a todos
Thank you for this tour Shogo! I truly hope on day to experience this shine qith my body and senses! To see this by video is great, but in person I can only imagine the grandeur!
Follower from America 🙏⛩🇺🇲
Wow I'm actually reading Vagabond and when I saw the title Miymoto Musashi I was happy and crazy timing !
I unfortunately didn't visit Hachidai Jinja when I was in Kyoto, but I have visited both Ganryujima and Reigandō and they are truly wonderful places. I really hope to be able to go back to Japan soon and when I do I'll make sure to return to Kyoto because there is still so many places there that I want to pay my respects at.
Interesting place and temple 👍
Omg everything is beautiful
Master Musashi would be proud
I feel this would be the perfect place to come in samurai armor and prey for the blessing of the gods .
ARIGATO GOZAIMASU, SHOGO SAN... RESPECT + FOR YOUR SHARING . 🙏😇☝️👍👍
I’m planning a visit to this shrine in the future
My last visit to Kyoto has three highlights, Kendo Keiko at the Budokudan (the only Nito Ryu player that night...), Visiting the site of the Sagarimatsu/Ichijoji, and visiting the Hachidai Shrine.
The Omamori on the inside of my Do is from there.
I can't wait to be able to return!
Hello Mr shogo I'm Darth I'm a fan of ur video about Japanese culture and history of samurai and ninjas swords so thank you
very cool🙏
Beautiful
I’ll have to put this on my list of places to go. I really have it set in my mind that I will be going to Reigandō cave in Kumamoto.
As an American, I own two Square Enix games named for Musashi, one copy of his book and two anime series where he is mentioned or appears. He is an international Legend.
I have read book about Musahi from Eiji Yoshikawa and also read a Book of the five rings. I like Musahi as a great swordsmen
Kyoto was my favorite city wen I visited Japan, am looking forward to return for sure. A place filled with nature and history, not to mention beauty and peace.
Love the edit too, very japanese xD
Would love to get the musics you play on your videos :)
Looking forward to go back sometime soon.
Thank you for this video, it was amazing to see that actual location of the duel, to see the actual tree!!
I am also wondering if there are any places in Kyoto that have anything specific to Sakamoto Ryoma, another of my favourite samurai?
I thought Tosiro Mifune was pretty darn good in the part. Kind of funny this ancient shrine is in someone's back yard.
just finished my collection of Vagabond manga. so timely you are
Love to go see it myself one day. Once the world 're opens that is.
i remember watching another move doc about Miyamoto Musashi he fought at the battle of Battle of Sekigahara but was on the losing side and then was hunted down as a criminal but he dedicated his life to the art of the sword
Im interested in the legend of Miyamoto Musashi. This is interesting...
I have been a fan of Musashi for decades. Even had most of "The Book of Five Rings," memorized at one time.
Do you know if they sell budo-omamori there? So far I could only find some at the Kashima and Katori jingu.
Hi @Shogo. I would like to know what is the phrase you always say just before starting the show
You should make a vid of your katanas
for some reason i only hear Shogo's voice from my left headset. but the other voices like the SFX or BGM are normal. is it just me?

"Two things can do four things. Think on this."
As it. I'm a big big fan of Shinto/Shrines
0:53 I wish I could have been protected from schoolwork as a child. :o)
The 3 dislikes were from the Yoshioka Clan
I feel like I visited this place too ;)

I just like that the man basically took on a clan by himself
Shogo san, had you ever made video about Still Exist Samurai Clans ? If not, please make a video about it.
よろしくお願いします
I went to Reigando Dokutsu near Kumamoto.
Brave fencer Musashi
The word "Musashi" is also the name of the legendary sister ship of the IJN Yamato "IJN Musashi"
Good morning
Hi Shogo sensei, what Kami is/are enshrined here? Is Musashi sensei himself enshrined here?
Shogo: The great director Uchida Tomu made a five-part movie about Miyamoto Musashi in the 1960s. Have you seen it?
It reminded me, Takehiko Inoue needs to finish Vagabond.
👍
the cicadas are so loud lol
I always heard the cicadas as a kid growing up in Alabama, but nothing like in Japan and South Korea, so loud in comparison. And about twice the size.
@@Mika44044 yeah ahaha
Shogo, please teach us shrine's etiquette rules, please.
Most people know about bow at the torii entrance, but that's all.
I would like to hear meaning of two bows and claps, actually
I want to see their statues in Ganryuujima
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🔔
based on that statue, are wakizashi commonly use long handle/tsuka length back then ?
it's about the same length as katana/tachi handle
while nowadays it is commonly known that wakizashi definitely got shorter handle since its quite complicated to wear 2 swords with long handle
idk, if this long handle wakizashi are commonly used back then or it's just Miyamoto Musashi's personal preference
that statue and the Vagabond Manga got similiar look since wakizashi's are shown having a long handle/tsuka
There are so many wonderful things to see and do in Japan-and so many of them seem to always be UPHIILL!
Shrines and temples often are constructed on high places
How about the real hanzo i hope you can make a video about him
5 minute late
Oh no i accidentally watched the entire anime of naruto by accident again
Bad luck, fate, and schoolwork 💀
1st Comment on this Video 🤩 ! Or.... probably another counts 🤨 ?
Where is the site of Miyamoto Musashi's true grave? A quick search reveals all the places he is NOT buried. Where is his actual body located?
I have heard that Musashi was actually late to the duel because he stopped after praying to have tea with the priest. Do you know if that is true?
I’m pretty sure there are scriptures describing what musashi was assumed to do and take part in, I don’t have any reference but your best bet is through those
Clicked cause I read baki the grappler
I really enjoyed your video and how you present the shrine and its srroundings. Miyamoto Musashi what is the herioc thing about him. From all I heard he is just a killer.
