At 6:30 coming out of the top is the "Doll Family". The gentleman in front is Harry Earles (Kurt Fritz Schneider) and the taller lady is Daisy Earles (Hilda Emma Schneider). They starred in the 1932 cult classic "Freaks", among other movies.
I would've loved to have seen a circus show during the heydays of the circus big top shows. I e seen the circus in miniature display at the John Ringling Circus Museum in Sarasota, FL and was astonished at just how large and complex the operation really was.
I am the biological granddaughter of Mildred Ruth "Penny" Millette. Ira is my biological great grandfather. Still tracing names changes and ancestry etc. My father, Richard Koenig, was Penny's son.
Hi Dianne, I work as a web producer with FOX 13 in Tampa. We are doing a story on Ringling next week and one of our producers came across this video. Did you take this video and produce it? If so, could we use it on air and online with courtesy to you, or do we need to reach out to someone else? Thank you!
+Emily Ann I don't think animals were mistreated in this era, I sense they were well cared for and loved, just like travelling family. Animal cruelty in the circus is happening now and it should stop. Laws and compassion are needed, and the major animal organisations can't even stop it. It's usually men, the tempers of ill men.
Indeed, even in the early 60's when I arrived in Florida, the animals were treated with golden care. They were the bread and butter, and the trainers wouldn't let anyone near the cats...they were their own. I saw no cruelty, and was behind the scenes a lot, as a young teen. I hated my father hunting rabbits as a very young child, and would've felt the hurt and pain of the animals mistreated in an entire circus. Had friends in the circus families. I saw no animals mistreated, to repeat.
I was a trainer/presenter in the 70's for a large circus. elephants were hit on and hooked many times a day. I worked the big cat act and never hit them. However the owners were very cheap on what meat they bought for the cats. Once 4 days no food b ecause chicken was over >15 cents a pound.
Nice to see these historic moments documented. You can learn so much from these videos. :) Nice job!
Great video. Tanks for your work editing such old film. Maud was my aunt, but this is the first time I have seen the film. Loved it.

Yes, it was Lou. His main bit here is in the devil outfit.
@@rogersmith4834 And the first one is Gijon Polidor.
@@rogersmith4834no he wasn't in a devil outfit
I am 99.9% sure that the clown who makes his first appearance at 7 minutes is my half uncle, Felix Adler, the "King of Clowns."
I think the clown at the 7 minute mark is paul jerome during his whiteface phase but the clown at 8 15 is definitely Felix
+Kelly Perusich - I agree - 8:15 is Felix. He's my great uncle! :-)
My favorite clown! Felix Adler
I only clicked on this video for Felix. That is so cool that you’re related to him. I did his makeup for Halloween this year.
