My hamster associates my voice with food and treats, running near their food bowl whenever I come near their cages and wait expectantly 😂
Same lol
Mine does the same when I lift the cover off, even more when he hears the clink of food landing on his banquet plate 😁
Awwww how sweet❤
Roborovski hamsters are fast not very friendly.
Toonie is very cute
5:33 THIS! THIS!!! Any animal does not owe you ANYTHING for you doing the bare minimum. This applies for parents who have children and expect them to get on their knees and worship them too. When you’re bringing a living being into your life, you’re promising to look after them. You shouldn’t be angry when your pet or child doesn’t give you what you “expected” in return. Appreciate that you’ve got the ability to look after one.
I wish that the people in my life or any other neglected person’s life for that matter would realize this before bringing them into this world
@jonalee5262 yeah i agree
I had a really aggressive dwarf hybrid a while ago. Absolutely despised human interaction and just wanted to be left alone. I knew she was mean when I got her, but it took a while for me to accept that she wouldn’t warm up to me. After accepting that, it gave me a deeper appreciation for her and her very solid boundaries. RIP War Machine, you were awesome
She had a fitting name for sure! 😂
Her name is so funny! Kudos to you for loving your pet enough that you respect her boundaries and how she chooses to live her life.
Rest in peace little one
What’s the point of having a hamster then? If they just are left alone?
@@C.r212 she needed a home and I had the space to give one to her :) she was kinda like having an angry goldfish lol. Like Victoria says in the video, animals don’t owe us anything, even if we give them food and shelter. Despite not having a bond w War Machine, I wouldn’t take back a second of having her. She was metal af and I miss her dearly
War machine! That’s amazing!! My current hamster doesn’t like me very much but he isn’t aggressive or mean. I’m hoping we may bond still, but I am taking things at his pace! It does give me a slight pang only because I miss my late hamster that was so very affectionate and loving. However as long as my Dagen baby has the best life he could ever have, I don’t care if he likes me or not!
This is such a good explanation! Some people don’t know that hamster don’t hate their owners.
Thank you!
Victoria, I want to thank you. I’ve had my Syrian hamster for about 2.5 years his name is buddy and he would probably not still be alive if I hadn’t stumbled upon your channel. I feel so bad for my hamster when I look back and see how bad his cage was and everything. And I want to thank you for sharing proper hamster care! You’re definitely my favorite UA-camr!
I'm happy I've been able to help ❤️
Victoria, if youre ever feeling sad, or there's nothing good to life just remember this. You are some ppls FAVOURITE UA-camr (including mine) and you have saved the lives of prbly SO MANY HAMSTERS! Don't tell my mom, but when she thought I was doing research on hamsters (which I did, Ofc) I was mostly just watching YOUR vids!! Love u Victoria!!!!!
This is very sweet, thank you 💗
Same!! My mum didn’t believe this was proper hamster care until I showed her Victoria’s Videos
I have 2 syrian hamsters. When I got my first one (Billie) I quickly learned that he was a ghost hamster. for months, I barely got to see him and when I did he would maybe take some treats and then quickly run to his burrow or just avoid me all together. I was really discouraged and I thought he would never be friendly with me or want to be held. but I still loved him very much so I gave him the best care I possibly could and I never gave up on taming. I would stay up late just to see him. After a few months he started to come out when I fed him so I started hand feeding him fresh veggies regularly and this is when he started becoming really friendly with me but didn’t seem interested in coming out of his cage or being handled yet.
One night, pretty much out of the blue he sat in my hand and let me lift him into a playpen. this was 8 months since I had him. ever since then he’s been really friendly with me, Ill put my hand in his enclosure and he immediately climbs up and lets me hold and kiss him. Now he’ll come out earlier in the evening excitingly waiting for treats or to be let in his playpen.
My rescue Syrian hamster (Effie) was friendly and curious from the beginning. it took me less than a week to tame him. Probably because he was already used to humans but I was really shocked.
So one syrian took 8 months to be tame and the other took less than a week, it really shows how all hamsters have their own big personalities
Hamster's will surprise you sometimes! I feel like it's their way of rewarding you for being so patient 🥰
I have 2 rescued box turtles who went from 20-30 years of neglect to having me trimming their nails, working at their stuck sheds, and feeding them a healthy diet. safe to say they do not like to be handled and I respect that
I went to the pet store for cat supplies, saw this lil dwarf hamster and cried cause it was so cute. I asked them to hold on to it for me, got all the supplies I’d need over like a week, got the enclosure set up, and went back to get my little Toast ❤️ I gave it a week and then tried to interact with toast but they wanted nothing to do with me. Honestly I don’t mind 🤷🏻♀️ I’m happy knowing I’m giving them a good home, they get food and enrichment but I don’t try to handle them. I just watch them when they come out at night for a little bit and it’s good enough for me
Give him time to settle then you can start taming by offering treats. Try placing your hand flat inside their enclosure and let them sniff your hand to get use to your scent. It may take time but your hammy will get more familiar with you, I promise.
title picture thing is EVERYTHING.
It took time for most of my hamsters to get used to me. Eventually, each one understood that I wasn't a threat to them, and for the campbells dwarfs, that being petted was not something to be afraid of. The robos were more timid by nature, but they also understood that my presence wasn't something to run from after some time.
Thank you for saying that hamsters owe us nothing, really no pet owes us nothing. I had a robo who never allowed me to touch her and my present dwarf let me handle her a lot when she was younger but as she ages her behavior also changes as well and it needs to be respected. Great video ❤️
You have collected the information very well! Thank you Victoria!
Thank you as always! ☺
Both my syrians are ghosts, and for some time I was envious towards hamster owners on the internet who seem to interact with their hamsters a lot. Now I'm proud of myself for letting the hamsters' live as they want and not forcing them to get tamed.
After all they are solitary animals, they do not need company. I'm happy that I get to live with the cutest fellas.
I get so many people asking me when i'm going to tame Toonie 🙈 The answer is never because I have no issue leaving her to do what she wants to do! Nickel & Penny are both quite friendly so I get to interact with them often enough I don't mind not getting to interact with Toonie ☺️
I have noticed Toonie being a lil shy from the moment u got her, but I assumed that it’s because she is in a new environment. But eveeerryy hamster is different with different emotions and personalities.
hey victoria!!
i hope you read this but id just like to let you know how much you’ve affected my life. like genuinely. about four or three years ago i decided i wanted a hamster and i would stay up every night watching your videos. i upgraded my cage about 3 times then decided it wasn’t enough and made a massive bin cage with my dad.
whilst watching your videos i realised the mistreatment of small animals and its honestly changed my life. about a year ago me and my best friend teamed up and wanted to make a page and full website dedicated to talking about hamsters and rodents but after my third hamster died i lost motivation and gave up. however i did continue fighting and i’ve pointed out improper care of hamsters and other animals ever since.
this week i thought i should check back up and watch some of your videos and i just thought it would be nice to let you know, thank you so much for everything, you’re changing so many people without even realising!!
I'm glad I was able to inspire and help you during that period of time 💗
I'm now on my 8th hamster owned in my lifetime! She's the sweetest girl, she 'talks' (chirps) at us when she gets pets and treats, and its so incredibly cute and reassuring that she likes all we've done for her!
my old hybrid dwarf Boko was a biter his entire life after i adopted him. he came from a couple where i am not sure about his care with them but their break-up led him to being left at the shelter. all we know is he had cancer his whole life with us but we managed it without surgical intervention and he ADORED life so much he lived the longest i've had a hamster for. we used to say he 'hated the world but loved his girl' because he would bite EVERYONE (me included) til the day he died. at the same time, he was the cuddliest of all three of my hamsters in adulthood (the others were syrians). he would look up and around when he knew we were there, asking for 'uppies' and cuddles. he would back up into your palm and fingers for more pets and just adored being loved. he still would bite through your fingernail and whatnot but that was just Boko (we named him fittingly after the Bokoblins of BOTW). i'd be lying if i said i wasn't afraid of being bitten by him, but together we learned to hang out and radically accept all the bites and cuddles that came with that. i figured if this tiny creature who was the size of my syrian hamster's head could learn to coexist with me, i could do the same for him. he lived to be three years and three months old in the end, and didn't stop moving and enjoying life until his last hour, where he came looking for me and of course his beloved cuddles.
i have plenty more stories about goose and toast, who were boko's siblings, but i think boko's story is the one that highlights today's topic so well. boko never really hated us and was in fact so happy to be in our care that he felt comfortable to show us what he thought with his teeth. but because we learned to love him for that, we also spent more time with the little gremlin that had a lot of love to give, just in his own way that we had to learn to accept and understand as we shared our life together. 🥰
your tips like this and videos before have really helped me bond with my hammies, my first one was an adopt from a home where she was very loved and hand taught, she loved sitting in my hand and was very social. My second was rescued and much more nervous, a teddy bear. He was skiddish for a long time but now a year and a half in he's very sweet and walks up to greet me
I'm glad they've been able to help!
Can you do another video on stress habits? My Syrian hamster Biscuit sometimes puts his hands onto the glass of his cage, and looks like hes trying to escape. He does this (almost) every time that he awakes from his sleep. Usually I just take him out for playtime if i can and that helps a little bit but i am just really confused whether this is normal or not, I dont know if im doing the proper care but i know that i do have a good sized cage. It is a 750 sq enclosure with a good amount of bedding that he loves burrowing into, and a pretty good selection of toys. I always give him boredom breakers though and they help quite a bit so it would help alot since you are my favorite hamster UA-camr if you made another video about just main hamster care. :)
I had a Syrian hamster named Jolly who did that. He used it as a way to ask me to take him out for playtime or to give him treats. If you regularly give playtime after seeing that behavior, I would guess your hamster might just be doing what my boy did. (He only ever did it when I was physically near the cage and he didn't do it if he'd already gotten to play outside the cage or had some treats)
oh okay thank you! yea i think that's probably the reason 👍
My hamster muffin has done the same thing since I got her and it’s just because she hears me and wants treats, and she has a large cage + a sand bath
I’m so glad you made this video Victoria! I remember when I first got my baby dwarf hamster Rosie and I thought she absolutely despised me. She is still very shy and skittish but after building her trust, she is seven months old now and she sits in my hand! Now she has recognized that my hand is not a sign of danger and she even lets me pick her up! To be honest, I think it’s just about respecting her space and just appreciating the fact that she trust me! Earning her trust is one of the biggest honors I’ve ever felt in my entire life. I’m so happy you explained this so that people know every hamster is different ❤️
That is very in depth video! Watching dipper, mable and waddles makes me 🥺 I love all of my hamsters & respect every one of their personality 🐹 ❤
Thank you! Seeing their old clips always warms my heart, I miss them a lot!
Very good explained ❤
Thank you Victoria! my hamster is fine with me stocking her, but as soon as she is out of her cage she is sooo frightened and scared, at first I thought that she didn’t like me so this video really helped! 😊❤
When I saw the little red dot in my subscriptions my heart leaped ❤️ I love it when you post!
Aw thank you! ❤️
Watching this with my first hammie Beefcake ❤️ he’s a winter white dwarf and is about 7 months old, he was the last in his litter to be picked. Thanks to your videos, I was able to give him a great home right away; he lives in a 1069 sq. In enclosure and is living his best life. He’s the sweetest hamster ever and loves to be handled and hand fed treats. Thank you for all the advice, he would not be so well cared for if not for you!!
Thank you, thank you for this video and for sharing about Hamster Breeding Mills 😢. I appreciate the education that we receive from your channel. 🙏🏽 ❤
Thank you for watching! It's a sad reality more people need to know about :(
@@VictoriaRaechelYou’re welcome! Yes, I completely agree.
Thank you for clearing the air. Interacting with my hamster made me realize I need to be a lot more patient with her. It’s like what you said, hamsters have different personalities and I’m learning that through her body language and what she likes and dislikes when I’m bonding with her.
Hey Victoria! Thanks for noticing and liking my comment. I have a question 🙋🏾♂️. I’ve had my hamster (Nami) for about 3 weeks / 4 days now and she’s still a little skittish at times. Whenever I place my hand full of her seed mix, she’ll take it but won’t climb into my hand. She’ll sometimes leave a feet on my hand while eating and at times she’ll look at the food and turn away or take the food then face her back against me and eat. I don’t really know what this means but I am being patient with her and not taking anything personal but I’m just curious on how I can get her to trust me more.
Olivia bonded with me in 4 days after me getting her, she let my mom and me pet her. Much faster than Goldie was. But I did leave her alone for a little while.
Love this! My new robo is very skittish but I know she doesn’t hate me!im sure this is very helpful to new hamster owners x u have helped me so much🧡
Great video Victoria!!!
Thank you!!
My Robo hamster looks and acts JUST like Toonie. This video really helped me understand that my hamster may just not like human interaction at i’m completely fine with that! Thank you and I love your videos!❤️🐹
im honestly just happy if my hamster is comfortable with their enclosure. I just want to make sure they have a good life. I dont ever expect them to love me as a dog would for example, because oftentimes they will not show appreciation - at least in my experience - and that is completely okay! I wish more people knew about this and didnt go in to adopting a hamster expecting them to be as sociable as cats and dogs would be
My hamster is the same way. I have a robo hamster who is very timid and I often go days without ever seeing him. I wish I could see him more often but I understand that he likes to spend most of his time burrowing and sleeping during the day. I provide him with everything that he needs and although I wish he was more active during the day, as long as he’s okay, I’m okay with not seeing him often.
My Syrian is a sweet happy boy that loves coming up to me for treats but doesn’t like being held/handled or touched and I’m perfectly fine with that. I still love him 🥺
hii so glad to be here early can you make some more bonding videos or things like that thank you!
this is a good topic! thanks!
Amazing video!! Every new hamster owner should watch this ❤ If you don’t mind me saying, I would love if you did even more cage tour/setup videos! It gives me so much inspiration & helps me discover new shops to get more hamster products ❤❤❤
thank u so much Victoria! 🐹🤍❤
Thank you for watching!
The thumbnail I’m dying 🤣🤣🤣
hehe
I recently got my first hamster back in may. and ive been obsessed with binging your channel. its helped me so much🥹💗
My new(ish) hamster penny is definitely anxious but I’m just taking it slow and I’m confident that she will get more comfortable and we will be able to hang out together sometime soon!
I have a really sweet Syrian I got from a pet store, he's never bitten me and loves when I sit by the cage and talk to him, that's most likely due to the fact that I comforted him with words when he was first brought home, though he was bought by my parents he's now my responsibility since I'm now 19. I begged my parents for a bigger cage and wheel when I learned about stress behaviors, now he's in the larger cage and hasn't had any signs of stress since. He has a sand bath and lots of chews as well. The only thing he doesn't like is being picked up, I can tell by the fact he's chattering his teeth hard. He has a special bond with me but would rather be interacted with in the safety of his own cage. I love him.
I adopt neglected or abused hamsters & it is so tough seeing them so scared, it takes me weeks & sometimes even months to get them to feel safe, im glad they all do eventually but it is so sad!
My hamster Phinny actually was neglected so much, she came in with another unfortunaly the other was already very sick & was only 2 weeks with me. Phinny is so social now, she eats ouf of my hand & knows when im in my room, i have the best bond w her atm. Every hamster is different & has their own list of their personalities
My hamster came from a hoarding situation and the rescue said this is the worst case of cage rage they've seen in a hamster. She is so protective of her her home and she will be bite!! I've had her over a year now and I've done a lot of work to gain some sort of trust with her. But ultimately she is never going to be a cuddly, human loving hamster and I'm okay with that. I love her regardless!
I love my two hamsters, and I've had 8 total in my life, and only ever been able to hold 2 of them. The others weren't interested, didn't like it, were shy and that's okay. I love watching them just as much as I do holding them. I've had syrian, robo and chinese dwarfs. However, I've had MANY gerbils in my life as well, at one point I had 32 due to a rescue situation and all of them except 2, that had medical problems were happy to be held. I know a lot of people buy hamsters for children as first pets, personally I would recommend gerbils over hamsters. I prefer my hamsters but my gerbils are by far friendlier, even the ones that I've adopted from the pet store adoption sections. So I think they'd be a better fit for kids/first time rodent owners. Gerbils also are more forgiving, and also have a lot of the same requirements as hamsters.
My cat was bonded to a lady who moved back in with her parents.
Her mother wouldn't let her take the cat with her.
Another owner died in bed and the cat was in the bed with her.
So my expectations were too high when I got him.
He's 12 years old and chooses my chair and a storage chest by the window over my bed. He does purr and let me pet him.
i agree with everything! it was super easy to understand.
My (definitely hybrid) campbell was hard to read! I realized he wasn't skittish at all but seemed more territorial, or just preferred being left alone. The first year he'd bite me quite often so I had to back off a lot, go for treat bribe all the time and leave him alone more than most I've had (which is ok!!).
I tried to let him out from time to time, putting my hand down and bringing him out when he didn't bite. He did like being out of the cage, he'd bite me less outside and mostly nibble (which is a big difference 😆). He even remained calm in my hands and would bite when he had enough (I assumed)! Not gonna lie, it was a challenge to gain his trust and make sure he felt at home but I did make it in the end. The last year I had him, as he grew older, he sometimes started napping in my hands.
When I had to put him down at 3yo for a tumor, he seeked my hands immediately 😞💜 Hamsters are given human qualities but truly they have their own language and reactions and I know we had each others eventually.
Of course Toonie doesn't hate you. She enjoys and loves the cage, the little world you made for her, and she looks happy. Such a cute little animal.
Robos have been pets round my way for a bit more than 50 years. They used be sold in families and groups. Sold to buyers on the understanding they were the only breed you could house in 1 cage together. I think care and keeping of hamsters has been the most dramatically changed in a short space of time. But proper ethical care for Hamsters sadly continues to battle against the money makers who deem pets as commodities rather than the living breathing pets they are.
I love that you placed your camera in the cage to emphasise how scary we can be to them. That was a great idea.
Thanks for this video. As always, helpful and informative for new owners
Thank you for this. I have a male Syrian hamster, who is incredibly timid. I have worked very hard with him to build his trust, but I think it's just his nature. He prefers to be hidden and to avoid interactions. So instead of me trying to change his ways, I've changed mine. I don't force interactions with him anymore (unless cleaning) in the hopes of making him more comfortable.
My hamster George, he tends to like being picked up but when he asks and climbs my arm he asks if he could go for a free roam time! He enjoys he free roam time and playing with the objects outside of his enclosure, but I am happy to sit with him and watch him as he has fun!😍🥰
My daughter has a hamster that is black and white and he’s 3 months old, the hamster sometimes screams at her when she gives him snacks, but the hamster sleeps a lot so my daughter doesn’t want wake him up make sure he is comfortable
Bonding with some of my hamsters took a while, but was worth it
This is a very nice video!!
I have a beautiful chinese dwarf hamster and she's my first hanster ever actually. Something I've noticed with her, that some hamster owners might also like to know, is that she'd react aggressively if my hands smelled like my other pets (which is very understandable of course and was quite easy to figure out)! Sometimes she'd bite sometimes she wouldn't, depending on if I washed my hands or not.
She doesn't really like to be picked up, but I can pet her (sometimes) and give her treats and that's perfect :D she's not very social and that's totally fine 🐹❤ Love your videos, I wouldn't even be able to guess how many hamster's lifes you've saved over years!! Thank you
like for a cookie 🍪
I can attest to handling hamsters when they're young makes them better adjusted to human interaction. My family bred hamsters when I was in middle school, and people always commented how docile they were because my sister and I would do our best to spend some time with all of them.
It took my last hamster about 6 months to be comfortable with me holding her, that was 1/3 of her life. I had another hamster that i would only see every few days because he would get up between 12am and 5am. Owning hamster for me is about giving them a good life and my goal is not to get anything from them, its a bonus if they do.
My hamster Biscuit came from a noisy and neglectful home with lots of dogs. When i got him home he was terrified of me and hissed every time i got near his enclosure, i was like geez this is never going to work. But after months of soft talking and patients he now runs up to my hand to eat. He only likes to be held for a short time, but I'm working on this. It requires time and effort when it comes to Hamsters.
Omg thank you!!! I got a new robo and he has been really timid
My hamster typically wakes up super late and gets up often during the day, he doesnt mind me holding him, but it took me a very long time to get him used to me. He was my first hanster that was more shy, so it was a little bit upsetting, but i didnt regret getting him whatsoever
This is super helpful because my hamster bit me earlier and i was literally thinking she hates me.
Excellent video! My Horus is a good boy, but is only out between 2 am and 5 am.
My current hamster does not want to be touched or held but he will take treats from me sometimes and that’s enough for me :) I’m happy to care for him no matter what
Victoria thank you so much! My hamster that is like 6 months ran away and got through his cage and was mishandled at a petco, I have been making a bond with him since January. I also love hamsters and I just got a new hamster❤ THANK YOU❤❤❤
My dwarf (he’s a yr old) only lets me pet him and has only ever bitten my sister. He’s to never be picked up as it scares him. Hes screamed once bc of a movie I had on so I quickly switched it off. Hes very independent which is fine with me, i only rlly get to interact with him when I spot clean. Love him nonetheless
Hi Victoria I love your videos ! I was just wondering if chipsi wood bedding is safe for hamsters as I’m thinking of buying it ! ❤️❤️🐹
I’ve had three robos and all of them had different personalities.
The only male I had was nervous, but very active. The white female was veryyyy calmed and super cute, she never run away from my hand. And the other female robo was the most nervous one. I couldn’t touch her, but that’s okay 💖
I loved taking care of them even if they don’t really like human interaction
This is my favorite YT Chanel ❤
Aw thank you!
❤@@VictoriaRaechel
I had my hamster since January and can not get her tamed because she wakes up at 1 am ( when I’m asleep) but this vacation I’m risking my sleep schedule to get this little dude comfy 😂😊
Our Robo Tama with a lot of work got used to us and would go in our hands and climb on us. Near the end when not well didn't want to and once bit but turned out had a uti. Robos are mostly a watch pet. In the other hand Syrians are different mines that I've had from various places are friendly but still with work. X
My hamster passed away 2 weeks ago, he was the best. Great video though! x
I'm sorry for your loss!
A pokémon will always love you
@Victoria Raechel what breeds do you think is best for beginners?
Great video
i just love your videos 🥰
Thank you!!
i’m so early! Toonie is my fav xx
I think my hamster Bob tolerates me but I still love him so much. I can tell he views me as an occasional annoyance but it doesn't matter 😂
amazing vid once again! :) do you have any idea why hamster might change behavior? my dwarf used to show up every time i opened the cage if she was awake but now she won't come out before i'm in bed sleeping, late into the night. i was wondering if this has something to do with seasons turning from dark winter to bright summer or if she just kind of grew up because she's bigger now 😂 not a baby anymore
Thank you! There could be a few factors, it’s possible like mentioned in the video they’ll ill and hiding it as a sudden change in behaviour could indicate something is up the other reason could be something changed in the environment that’s caused them to want to come out later, usually with season changes you might notice an hour or two difference but not usually something as dramatic as not seeing them at all!
Victoria I luv ur vids! I have a female Syrian hamster called April and I made sure to provide her with a bin cage! I hope to upload videos of my hamster so you could possibly rate her cuteness!❤😊
Victoria I love your videos
I am SUCH A BIG FAN VICTORIA I LOVE YOU
I AM ONLY TWELVE AND I HAVE A HAMSTER NAMED MUFFIN SHE NEEDS A BETTER CAGE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GET GLASS.
I had this exact thought as I greeted my Syrian boy this morning and he immediately stopped running on his wheel and was hesitating at his burrow entrance. I’ve pretty much understood he is a ghost hammy
I know that this isn't the video to ask about this, but where do you get your bowls that you put sand in and stuff?. also, can you make platforms out of sturdy cardboard for lighter items like a food dish or bowl? I might be getting a hamster and I want to be prepared :)
NiteAngel or any ceramic dishes from the dollarstore :) You could make some platforms out of cardboard for lighter items!
A giant Victoria can always pick me up lol
🤣
I will be using this video to link in those many Reddit posts I see asking why peoples hamsters hate them 🙄
My hamster has been showing signs of boredom and stress in his current cage so I bought him the bigger world in medium. But I don’t expect him to love it ❤ I just want to give him the best life he can get.
I'm sorry for your loss!
@@VictoriaRaechelthank you, just to clarify my hamster is not dead ❤ I am getting him a bigger cage.He is still alive ❤❤

what does it mean? you made me notice that
I said I hope that's able to answer that question 🥺
I used to have a campbell's hamster who was naturally a bit more aggressive due to his size. He didnt warm up to me until a year and a half after i got him! My ex hated him but i found it endearing honestly
He got his own thing goin' on! I'm just the giant bald guy who feeds him 🤷
I have had 2 syrian hamster and they both have very different personalities, i am fortunate that neither of them bites but a hamster is really not a pet for everyone
My Hybrid (because he didn't change his fur in winter, so...) come to my house with 30 days old. He is a son of a couple hamsters of owners that doesn't know nothing about hamsters... They said: this one is the grumpiest. And here we are, doesn't mind. He bite sooo hard when there aren't food...but when he eats we can touch a little just his head. I love Rocket too much and I gonna do my best for him and the others next one. (Sorry but i'm from Spain and my english is lower)
My hamster has anxiety and screams when he’s scared or bites. So that’s when I stop. But when he sees me in my room he goes up to the wall closest to me. So it’s just balance.
I’ve had a social robo and several ghosts and I love all of them. It’s a privilege to hold them not a right lol
hey victoria! i have a question.
background info:
so basically, about a year ago, i got a dwarf hamster (piper) i had watched a TON of your videos to make sure i had the proper care for a hamster. i had every thing i needed (that i know of) two months ago, she passed away and i don’t really know why. after we disposed of her i thoroughly cleaned out her enclosure and everything in it. a few weeks later i found the perfect hamster. he looked like remy’s brother from ratatouille, emile, so i named him emile (that’s besides the point) but emile was a syrian hamster so i got a new wheel, sand bath, and new hideouts because he was obviously bigger. emile got used to me within a few days and i monitored his eating, drinking, behaviors, etc. and he seemed healthy to me and a few weeks later, he had also passed. i was so confused about why i had two hamster pass away in a short amount of time. so my question is, do you have any suggestions about why this happened? i really want a new hamster but i dont want to do anything wrong so im going to wait till i know why the other two died. so if you have any ideas or thoughts (or anyone reading this), can you please let me know? my family and friends are all telling me that its because im “putting too much bedding” because both piper and emile were found buried under the bedding. (i had about 8 inches of bedding) so im here to figure out maybe why this happened because im pretty sure its not the bedding. thank you for your time! your awesome! 🩷
Hi! I'm so sorry to hear about your recent losses, first thing I would check is your carbon monoxide levels that could possibly be affecting them if there is a small leak. If you've got them from the same place it's possible they just have poor genetics which I talk more about in this video: ua-cam.com/video/3fcAAhLLoZ8/v-deo.html depending on the type of enclosure (like wood or if there are any cracks that aren't cleanable) it's possible the first hamster had some sort of virus that was passed on to the other, if you believe that might be the case trying a completely new enclosure might be a good idea.
i dont really understand the need to handle a hamster. i provide the best enclosure i can give, and dont expect anything in return. i dont feel the need to touch them, maybe only to watch them doing their thing a couple of minutes a day, but that's it.
But it do understand that others might feel differently, maybe i'm also influenced by my fear of bites
Hey Victoria do you remember when you reacted to a dangerous hamster cage 3 years ago? Will I just watched that video and the hamster looks like my hamster.🐹 like hello wth is that with!
Hi Victoria please help me! My hamster was getting really confident around me and I really didn't want to scare her so I haven't tried to pick her up. I was transporting her to her playpen from her cage, while I was cleaning it. I put her in her hideout and gently moved her to her playpen and added lots of bedding to her cage, I went through her house while she was in it and she got very scared, so I tried to move her back to her cleaned cage and she squirmed out of her hideout and fell into the playpen. She looks fine but she is quivering and burrowed under her bedding. I'm so upset that I may have hurt her and it's all my fault. She only fell around a foot but she was very scared and fell on her head. I'm really afraid that she is hurt and it's all my fault! Do you think she will be ok and will still like me? Thank you so much xxxx
I have a hybrid hamster who leans more toward a winter white. I got her from the pet store. I’ve had her for a while and always have to be careful when sticking my hand in her enclosure. She doesn’t seem very scared (no hissing or running away. But, she purposefully comes up to me (very calmly) and then proceeds to bite my fingers until I bleed. Although if she is eating something I can pet her back gently but she often inches away from me when I do that. I understand if you is just not a fan of me, but I want to be able to grab her water bowl without worrying about being bit. Could this be a territorial thing?
It definitely could be a territorial issue! I think it's more commonly seen in smaller enclosure but it's not impossible to happen in a large enclosure.
I have a 40 gallon right now but, I have been planning to upgrade to a 75 because I just can’t fit everything I want to in there. Maybe a 75 will help with that. Thank you!
Hi Victoria!
I have a lion head bunny, he’s 3 year old, and all of the sudden he keeps peeing and pooping outside of his litter box. We use the woodstove pellets you use and just got a new bag and it seems like he doesn’t like it. In all of the years we’ve had him he’s never done this before, Maybe He’s being territorial? But we’ve decided to get him neutered at the end of June, the vet will hopefully give us more info but I just wanted to see what you think.
Thank you❤
Toonie is too cute ❤❤❤
Thank you!
