- When you're buying studio gear, even small differences can be crucial. But without trying them all, how can you know which microphone is right for you? To solve this problem, Alex Oana and Ian Hlatky set up Audio Test Kitchen: the most ambitious audio comparison project ever undertaken.

Can you tell much difference between a Sony C800G and an AKG P220? Or a Telefunken ELA M 251E and a Rode NT1-A?

I watched the whole thing. Excellent basis for comparison across brands/models, something that has been lacking for decades. The only thing I could prefer to this is a real showroom where I demo the mics myself, but there are so few of these remaining in the US.
If you ride the sound wave, after this your instant thoughts should be:

I think most of us in music we try every little Nuance angle pitch tone Dynamics volume gain possible. I feel like I do to much most days getting the sounds just how I want them & then realise I just used 16hrs to get part of a project done LOL.

Audio Test Kitchen did an amazing job here. I relied on their audio database for a 3rd mic purchase (when you don't have access to physically demo, ATK is by far your best alternative)
Can't wait for their next gear comparison implementation
what microphone was used to capture the vocals?
If you mean the one you can see with the singer, its a Schoeps CMC6 amplifier body with likely the mk4 capsule as they said they just went with cardioid

Honestly, unfortunately the only thing I took away from Audio Test Kitchen, was that apparently all mics sound a lot more similar than I thought.

I thought I was the only one. It worked when it first came out.
The kitchen website does not work on my PC .. apparently starts loading and then nothing! total blank page not even with a message!!

I am not sure I am going to make it to the test. Whatever mic you used for the dialogue was the wrong mic. The sibilance is extremely painful.
