"Anybody that tells you that you don't need a pillow when you're sleeping in the woods, just use your boots or something like that, they're into suffering." Sorry, I spat my drink when you said that LOL! It's so true!
Grazie Dave, conoscere una persona come te è stato veramente un ONORE. Come torni in Italia verrò a seguire le tue lezioni portando con me il coltello che mi hai regalato. A presto MAESTRO della sopravvivenza, forza e onore "FOLGORE"
Great dave I'm writing from Italy and I'm glad to have found you in the channel because I followed the first dual survivol series and I think it's the best series of all seasons thanks to you and your companion cody I'm Italian I write with translate I hope to receive news about the dual survivor program and if in the future we can think of your return because the first series remains the best in the history of this television genre. THANKS AND BEST WISHES YOU'RE AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL OF CHARACTERISTIC POLICY MANUALITY AND OPPORTUNITY. THANK YOU
That "make sure you practice with it before you need it" part at the end it some really good advice. Thanks for all the videos. You have taught me a great deal and are an inspiration to me.
G'Day Dave I agree you need a pillow when camping. When I was in the Air cadets in Australia in the 70's & 80's we used to use a goony bladder or casket blader, I use a sea to summer pillow like you. I have been enjoying your videos Cheers Brownie
Thank you Dave for all you have done for each of us, thank you for sharing this fantastic experience with us and thank you for allowing me to live it, but above all I thank you for the human warmth you sent me, see you next year
Hi Dave. great video like always. thanks for sharing. i don't know why but i got all choked up when u said u gave away your knife to a soldier and there was the picture at the corner. you are the man Dave. thanks again.
That’s was a good check 1,2,1,2 fallow up on the right gear Thanx Brother We been out this winter doin over nighters -F temps It’s been a great time&a very good Learning exp.for us We got summer down.Time to exp the winter beast.a whole different animal. Thanx for what you&your ppl do&the Teachings& inspiration into the woods👍
When it comes to clothing, the one thing I would add would be a pair of crocs or some other type of light and loose fitting footwear. They can be an absolute wonder around camp when you are drying your boots and socks around the fire, if you need to bust for a quick piss during the night or if your feet are just swollen and sweaty from walking. If you're doing a decent bit of trekking your feet will thank you for having these around. Also very useful if you need to cross rivers and such, just hang your boots from their laces around your neck or off your backpack. You get to keep your boots dry, but you don't run as much of a risk cutting your feet on rocks if you went barefoot. Your feet are absolutely crucial to maintain well, the extra bit of weight is worth it.
Have you ever been to the Ozarks Dave? Is that a area you'd possibly teach classes at? What about hiking the Appalachian trail areas? Great video as always Dave.. Thanks for all the true woodsman knowledge you have shared...
Thank you Dave, I also carry a blow up pillow and cop a heap of s#@t for it. I love the idea of putting your tent stakes on a carabiner, I also carry stakes but never thought of that. I hope to see you in Australia soon.
It's amazing and powerful that you gave that soldier your knife, Dave. Wow. BTW I'm glad that you mentioned that fleece you got. I was curious about it.
There is lots of talk about INCH bags lately. I would like to see a series on what changes you would make to your kit for a INCH Kit. If you are not coming home what would you carry or what changes would you make to your 5 and 10 C's. Since you can't carry everything with you what additional gear/skills would you need to survive on your own indefinitely? I know the frontiersmen / mountain-men carried less than people do today so what did they know that we don't know? I remember one of the contestants on Alone quit after he lost his Ferro rod. In the INCH situation you can't call someone or go shopping for another one.
I've watched almost everything you've published and I really enjoy learning from them. I appreciate your time and the desire to share knowledge. I do have a request that you may ponder. I live in the south and while being prepared for cold weather is important for us as well, I'd like to see some Bush craft for hot weather conditions as well. The heat in the summer here can definitely reach 100 degrees so protection from heat and mosquitoes is as important as protecting from the cold can be. There are definitely common sense approaches like staying hydrated, bug spray, etc. But I was wondering if you had any videos for the 5 or 10 Cs related to hot weather Bush craft.
that garberg is so sick. you're a great ambassador. way to gift your prototype like that. it's great to watch videos like yours; there are few that just shoot, do , and talk. notice how so many video makers have dozens and dozens of cuts in editing even for a few sentences. it seems to be a style (almost), but man if you really pay attention its just so ridiculous and mind-numbing to watch. they have to premeditate and script everything. kind of sad. you za man
I take wool socks 3/4 pairs as they get wet put on your pack or belt under the coat. Lots of people have a knife they're usually using but the usn mod 3 is The one that I use it is tuff as nail and been through a lot and still going. I have watch your show on backpack and wounded when you would go over noise in most cases nothing big but noise not going to help you. S.L.L.S something else to go over stop look listen smell very important even in the woods in friendly area never know what is around you.
Commenters please help me. how did this video get 6 thumbs down? this is a growing trend that i have noticed in the last 45 days or so. Several channels that i subscribe to are getting negative reviews for mundane videos. James from JunkyardFox is the only person who has responded to my questions by saying "haters are going to hate". I dont feel like that is what it is. Please explain to me that DC can get 6 thumbs down for something he has already done. Its not his opinion nor is he selling you anything. please comment.
I see your choices in spinning reels. What do you think about older reels? I tend to use Quick 110M and Shakespeare 1100 and 1200 series. But I am usually using these for ultralight trout. Line usually is in the 2 to 4 pound range.
There is a growing interest in bushcrafting and basic survival. One reason is because some of us realize how important are those skills. And it is not just about camping in the woods. What happens if the grid goes down, and the powers that be can't get it back up for months? Basic survival skills would then make a difference for anybody.
Not really the interest in bushcraft has been around and increasing since at least 1906 so its not a new thing as you suggest.. Most generally anyone who had been interested before it was a trendy thing to learn was taught by there parents, grandparents or other such figures. Nowadays it's more of a gourmet trend for the masses to follow into a manic hysteria.. a woodsman is not a hipster.
Good video Dave. I always learn something when i watch.. I find myself wanting to get some of the kool stuff you demonstrate here! Too bad the marine sleeping bag isn't available any more! I like alot. But what about the item you termed as a poncho liner... there were two of those you said could be used that way... are they available to buy... maybe off your Amazon influencer page? Hope all is well with you Dave.. take care till later.
Hey Dave, new subscriber here. Great videos. You seem like you can handle constructive criticism so a couple of things....you should get a wireless microphone and a Twitter account. Facebook's become a magnet for tail tuckers. Have a great weekend.
You are no doubt the best person to learn from when it comes to survival/bushcraft! I wouldn't normally do this but knowing your history and seeing where you gave away your custom knife to a soldier I had to tell you to check out my show us your gratitude video and ask you to do it yourself. As a vet I'd love to hear why you joined and what you took away from your time. I realize you'll probably never see this nor do it but I couldn't help myself because I know IF you saw the video you'd appreciate it and wanna do the challenge.
Hi Dave cool video, looks like your time in Italy was a lot of fun. I like your loadouts but for me I cannot use sleeping bags or blankets that are made of artificial materials.. I have a mummy bag from MEC and a few others that is made out of that artificial material and after a couple tries I just can't use them. I just get real uncomfortable with them against skin. I use cotton bags lined with wool or similar and the outside is generally cotton duck / canvas. For me it works wonders.. And do you have an Ebay shop? Amazon is harming the American economy in more ways than one so I avoid that marketplace out of respect for mom and pop type shops.
Oooh, Pillows - I forget them so often :/ I mean, yeah, there are alternatives but ... If you just have some Clothes or so (which could already smell in some cases), it's just anoying.
"Anybody that tells you that you don't need a pillow when you're sleeping in the woods, just use your boots or something like that, they're into suffering." Sorry, I spat my drink when you said that LOL! It's so true!
Dave, You are the Master! You've taught me so much. I love your book, "Advanced Bush Craft!" You are the real deal. Thank you for your videos!!
Grazie Dave, conoscere una persona come te è stato veramente un ONORE. Come torni in Italia verrò a seguire le tue lezioni portando con me il coltello che mi hai regalato. A presto MAESTRO della sopravvivenza, forza e onore "FOLGORE"
Yet again, sir, appreciate the time you take to teach and show what you know. Good to see you out with Joe! Mighty good man right there.
Dave , Just want to thank you for taking the time to share down to earth, no nonsense info, !

Yes pillows are important!! But I use a big pillow that is lightweight rather than the blow up kind.
Always dig Dave Canterbury loadout videos thanks!

Great video and information Dave. Thanks for sharing your load-out and your philosophy and thoughts on how you utilized the system.

Hi Dave, is the Marine Corps down sleeping bag something you could get re-manufacured and sold through your website?
I see your choices in spinning reels. What do you think about older reels? I tend to use Quick 110M and Shakespeare 1100 and 1200 series. But I am usually using these for ultralight trout.

Dave, when are you going to do the shooting review for the TPS ARMS m6 takedown?
