It takes a lot of practice and the right tools definitely help! That bench scraper is my all time favorite tho, it makes the job much easier for me!

I’m trying to get where you are with cake decorating. I have the baking down but I’m not so good at getting straight edges. I love this cake!
Straight edges come with lots of time and practice but there are a few things you can try to speed up the process! First, after you crumb coat your cake and ad that first layer of icing, give a quick once over to fill in the air bubbles and what not then freeze it really well. After your buttercream is nice and hard, take a metal bench scraper and go around and around scraping a little off as you go and eventually you have a beautifully straight cake with sharp edges. Once you master the frozen method, the room temp method gets easier.
