Hello Keven, Thanks for all your videos filled with so much wonderful knowledge. Do you guys sell all the gear for your double hand ascender setup ? Would absolutely love to utilize something like that for pruning and trimming. What a great way to make your way up and through the canopy.
We don’t have those specific products listed, here they are at Tree Stuff www.treestuff.com/camp-turbolock-progress-capture-pulley/www.treestuff.com/petzl-ascentree-double-handled-ascender/
hello Kevin, is it “in “or “en” ? how can you tell if a branch is dead or not for trimming? have an apple tree to prune. has not been done in 15 years, want apples over green.
Is that hand ascender rated for life support like that? From what I understand, it's not meant to be a primary life support connection. I could be wrong though.
Good observation, in fact alone it only counts as half a connection, but with the CAMP Turboloc pulley above it everything is legit. Ever since I almost cut my rope with my handsaw, I am noticing how often I pull out my handsaw without my lanyard in place.
@GameofTrees ok that makes sense, I thought maybe the addition above was to add life support, however, I'm not familiar with that lil device. The handsaw thing can definitely be challenging. I do pull it out often, but more often than not, I just put it right back and connect my lanyard before grabbing it and actually making the cut. It's alarming how many people convince themselves, and others, that they are saving a worth while amount of time by one handing saws non stop, or not using a lanyard while cutting. Doesn't save much time at all, and if you account for potential career or life altering accidents that could happen, it doesn't save time at all. Like always, great to see your humble contributions to the industry. Almost every time I watch a post you make I learn something, wether it be small and irrelevant to the work, or be it valuable information pertaining to what we do everyday.
That's a unique way to mount your go pro (upside down in front of face). Looks like two cameras on your helmet. You're working to get that shot. Can't blame you there. 👍
@GameofTrees saves you from changing your frame from 16:9 to 9:16 and zooming in to fill the space. I get that. Happy 60th btw. Showing me at 38 that I still have many more years remaining.
Well you do very good for an old guy 😁 😁 And the only reason I feel I can say that is, I'm older at 62 😅😅 I still climb but I'm not gonna foot lock very far lol..... great job and Thank you for the video !!!!
@GameofTrees 🤣 ah I do that as well too, dam this video tittle was a trap for my inner critic to babble, trying to see the positive aspects of others not looking for there perceived problems haha great video man much love and appreciate your very methodical movement and work approach, also hope I'm doing that well at almost 60, legend!
I was a bit concerned with you moving into the path of your face cut. I also think its hazardous to climb on ascenders as you need two hands and a bit of time to descend. If you cut yourself or something comes down and hurts you, its gonna be much harder to self rescue if you are hanging on ascenders. Something to ponder. Be safe good job 👍
The ascenders are for ascending, and then I switch to my akimbo, I’m not in the practice of working while on my EastEnders outside of a few cuts on the way up. I also literally made the conscious decision to take the shortcut in front of the trunk in that circumstance, but definitely not a practice😀 but I have been catching myself cutting with my handsaw without my lanyard. And on a single line that is very dangerous.
Hello Keven the first thought comes to mind is who am I to say anything. Second thought is when you get complacent with what you do that becomes a issue. Make sure your allways attached to the tree. Dont cut towards your lines. Dont file your guides down it wont cut faster. Clean up, leave the sight spotless. Enjoy your work its fun. Have a great day sir
What about not keeping your life line straight down behind you! In need of quick decent bud you'd have been in trouble with all those twists and turns!

@ thanks I’m on their now.. lol
Is it the walking in fall zone of post notch and back cut tree? Yes balanced and waiting for pull but technically unsafe?
That was definitely out of place, but definitely not a habit😀 it’s my handsaw use without a lanyard 😀
does oak wilt come back and multiple exposures will kill the tree?
A single exposure will kill a red oak variety. And once it’s in a stand of trees, it is hard to get rid of it.
In this situation, the tornado separated, the remaining healthy oaks from the disease

have an apple tree to prune. has not been done in 15 years, want apples over green.
The buds for next year should be very visible on Apple.

@@GameofTrees I thought that was a turbo lock pulley. I didn't consider using the way you did. Interesting.
Dude I nicked my climbing line with my handsaw no lanyard about 40 ft up was dangling from 2 threads of a 16 strand….since then I lanyard in
Absolutely, I recently did the same thing but was standing thankfully. Still, I caught myself in this video a couple of times. Ugh!

I have one vertically oriented. It works great for shorts.

Thanks Kevin! Do you use the hand ascender with the Camp turbolock as your primary tie in point and then change over to Akimbo when your in the tree?
Yes, ascent only.
@@GameofTrees 👍

Not having your thumb wrapped around the handlebar, I have developed that habit too
That is one I’m working on. Also, I whip out my handsaw without a lanyard.

Good tips all around though thank you!!
This comment section will be a good for anybody to review😀
I thought Keven had the akimbo on his bridge ready to attach to his rope?
Don’t wrap your thumbs around the handlebars
That is also true

You nailed it, I am inconsistent with my lanyard usage when I
Use my handsaw. Great tips all around. Thanks 👍

I could just clip it in a carabiner that is right below my akimbo and it would follow me. Those who know, will know what that means. 😀
