Nice job on the video Tony. I was so happy when they were able to successfully recover the Hunley and the crew, that was an amazing task. This is a real treasure. A real time capsule.
I had read about the Hunnelly but seeing this and hearing you speak about it brought it to life. They were brave men and it is so sad the way they died. Thank you for this information. God bless you
@@CAROLINATONY it is eerie. That reminds me of the 54th Massachusetts being found not far from where the hunley was found. The movie glory really told their story well.. those soldiers are buried down the street from me in our national cemetery..
Crazy how historians knew about the gold piece stopping a bullet was written in a journal and when they sift through the floor of the Hunley they find the actual coin. That's more than mere coincidence, that's how the universal powers wanted it. Also it was common back then for men to carry a broach that belonged to their deceased mother.
This is so sad. I wonder what their thoughts were going in, knowing the ones that went in before them had died in there.🤔 I'm not sure I could have been convinced to go in. Maybe they didn't know? Interesting....The coin story was fascinating and the jewelry, ☹️, I wonder what what happened to his lady.🥺
Oh, they knew. The young German (Arnold Becker) sailor in the 3rd crew served on the ship where most of the first crew of volunteers came from, so he knew them and that they died. Then, Becker was on the Confederate ironclad in the harbor when Hunley took the second crew underneath it for a demonstration, so Becker saw the SECOND crew die. He still volunteered for the 3rd crew. Amazing for a 20-year old. I walked the length of the beach on Sullivan's Island where the crew would have walked on their way to the Hunley's berth and back to the boarding house in Mt. Pleasant. It was sobering to imagine what they were thinking during that long walk, knowing what had transpired in the past and what they were facing. They did the trip out to the ocean and back several times a week (weather permitting) for several weeks before they were successful. I volunteered at the museum for a couple of years and it was a great experience.
RIP The brave men of the Huntley.

The guy giving the tour had several other ideas of why. One being it was valuable and could be sold. I like your idea better. Thanks for watching
😷 good vid , I have been there ....👍
It's amazing how big that have gotten in 150 years

People were made out of different material back then. Kind of like the predacessors of the navy seals. Thanks for watching 😊

They could've sunk that ship without the hundley
I think so too
