  • Jesus Christus, unser Heiland BWV 689, J.S. Bach
    Claiver-Übung III
Ruben Valenzuela, Director of Music & Organist
Organ: Fritts & Richards Op 5
Bach's second setting of Jesus Christus, unser Heiland BWV 689 is the final manualiter piece of Clavier-Übung III. In contrast to the previous five manualiter settings, it is a long and complex fugue with the fugue subject derived from the first line of the chorale. This fugue closely resembles some of Bach's other keyboard fugues, in particular the fugue in B-flat minor BWV 891 of the Well-Tempered Clavier, composed at roughly the same time as CÜ3 (1739).

Bravo, Ruben! That organ is gorgeous--and your playing and registration are, also.
