This is such a good expression of nostalgia for people who have been working a 9-5 for over a decade. We are all ordinary people who wish to be special. Man i love this movie so much. Your review is excellent!
Man that movie felt so bitter sweet. Knowing how he ends up but seeing how he got there. Such a good movie. Saw this movie after 37 Seconds, another great movie on Netflix
Don't forget about the score! I just watched it and the music in this film gives it bladerunner levels of ambience. This is why I find myself watching more Korean and Japanese cinema than anything these days. They are so good at these emotional dramas.
I never got to say goodbye to my wife who - although young and healthy - dropped dead out of the blue. She wasn't obsessed by not being "ordinary" but she had a lot of quirky and profound optimism. She wasn't Japanese, but Korean. Kaori took me back there. I understand what you are saying about Mr. Sato - and I "felt" his loss too - but the film is about Kaori for me. And Nanase...don't forget him. Thanks for the review.
great movie review. makes me wanting more to rewatch it. and I agree on the part that it's challenging to keep track of the timeline at times, but you'll get a hang of it I guess. Advisable to watch it at least twice. To add, kinda disappointed how little of his story with her ex-wife(?) was shown. I know that's it's kinda implied that their time together may be more "ordinary" so it's unnecessary to eleborate on it but I wish they added more to it, just a little bit. But it's fitting that it's quite open ended but with some hint of resolution that he find some peace & answer and may make use of it to proceed with his life.. hopefully as an adult. It's a great movie for me, all things considered
Thank you, thank you so much for your words!!! I finished the movie right now and I was searching for others to talk about it. I loved your words and you make me think more than I did before. You magnified my perception of the movie and I feel this masterpiece even better now. Thank you!
@@BlaineAuld Im from Brazil and the movie launched on Netflix this month. Amazing. I feel sad cause brazilians dont have the habit to watch japanese movies and a lot of people will pass the recommendation. This movie is really a masterpiece.
I didn't like the ending of this movie because i was hoping for a happy good ending that she comes back into his life but i know most sometimes with certain movies and shows we don't get happy ending and some most movies and shows we do get happy ending i love it when movies and shows give us happy ending in my opinion
Fantastic review! As a 90s kid, I loved the journey backwards and you nailed all the points! Subbed, will watch some of your recommendations (thanks for putting verdict on your thumbnails) and will listen for more of your reviews! Amazing job! I hope you grow your channel fast!
Kaori sent him the friend’s request in 2015. Her wedding was in 2011 (i paused and looked at the Facebook page). He did not reach his epiphany until 2020. Do I have this timeline correct?

I feel like it’s even worse if you haven’t worked a 9-5. I’m pushing 40 and still waiting tables, feel like I’m totally in a rut

We don't really become adults, we just pretend to be.

The plot of this movie reminds me of 5 centimeters per seconds.
she was very ordinary
Loved the soundtrack of this film
I think the ending implies he did finally write his novel.
Your review made me rewatch the movie, I really missed so many details. Great review, thanks.
Yes it is packed with little details, I'm sure I missed some myself. Glad you enjoyed, thanks for commenting! 😄

You know what thank you for this video. I believe it is something that happened or started in his childhood.

Can you recommend more movies like this. Watched this about 20 times in the past few months.
I am looking for the author / singer of the ending song (during the credits). Somebody knows?
same here
馬の骨 - 燃え殻 is the song in the credits
I feel, if not already. You'd love Koreeda's Films.
What is Sato's fatal flaw? What's wrong with him?

No, the Facebook invite was in 2020, after the company party. I didnt note the invite's date, but he only looked in 2020. :)
I'm in this train and am enjoying the ride with myself until it stops...but I picked up knowledge along the way and they're paying for the ticket
