Let's just take moment to appreciate the designers of this little marvel. imagine the design brief: make it look like a toy, yet be capable of doing everything that every synth in the history of synths has ever done. Nailed it! STONE. COLD. CLASSiC.
Thank you for your effective and thorough demonstration. As a complete beginner, I can say that your video is well worth more than hours of pouring through manuals (and other Microfreak demo videos).
Great content, I was just talking about how it's so fun to make sounds on the microfreak but hard to dial in specific sounds sometimes because of the mysterious parameters. This was very informative and I especially liked being able to see the waves as you changed them. Thanks for the tips!
This is SUPER helpful, technically this is in the manually but explained so incredibly briefly and badly it might as well not be there, especially the virtual analogue oscillator. Thanks!
Sure thing. Those might necessitate a one-at-a-time deeper dive, since people will be generally way less familiar with the principles behind them. Is there any you'd like me to tackle first?
As someone just getting into synthesizers, this is a most excellent video. Hope to see if you have any other good videos that have good tips and tricks!
I've hadn't noticed how silly some of the naming of the parameters are. Wave is actually shape and shape is actually wave... Great explanations! Very helpful. Been playing around with my MF for about a week now and having tons of fun so far
@@Thoracius hey thanks for the reply, I've only recently got the microfreak and learning about possibilities. At the moment I'm trying to make 'warmer' sounds with it. But really looking for any patch ideas and tricks to play about with:)
This is exactly what I needed! Ty! In depth, clear, annotations when needed and the MAGnified OLED screen is key for readability, thank you! requests; best way to emulate -a Stevie wonder bass from “too high”, -a tangerine dream pad / sounds from “ love on a real train”
I use the one included with the Free Bundle from Melda Plugins. You can use it with any VST host (I use Cakewalk). I plug the audio output from my MiniFreak into the input on my Scarlett audio interface.
5 sources * 7 destinations = 35 modulations. No reason you couldn't do it, but of course oftentimes in sound design less is more. Some of the modulations wouldn't make much sense or be very musical.
@@Thoracius i just like the idea of someone trying and see what experimental stuff is emitted :) If I get a MF...I will do that first and upload my madness here lol

Yeah. Though I wouldn't say it can do everything, it is impressive. And I like a lot of the weird digital sounds it is capable of as well.

Thanks. I needed this. Many of the Microfreak's osc's are incomprehensible. 😉

I agree. Thank you making this
I really like this breakdown. You should do another video for the other oscillators.

@@Thoracius maybe the Two Op FM.
Agree! Also for the wav table ones

very well done........thanks.......................masterful presentation skills......................
This is the most useful video ever. Thank you for your work
thank you:) would love to see some more patch making tips for the MF:) thanks again
for sure. anything you're specifically interested in seeing?

This little synth sounds great!
Very nice. The oscope added another level of understanding. Thanks!
Microfreak its one of kind for a small format synth.....
Yes, it delivers a lot for the size/weight/price.
Amazing! Thank you!
Good job, dude

This was super helpful! Thank you so much!
My pleasure.
what oscilloscope did you use and how did you connect it to the minifreak?
I use the one included with the Free Bundle from Melda Plugins. You can use it with any VST host (I use Cakewalk). I plug the audio output from my MiniFreak into the input on my Scarlett audio interface.
awesome thanks!@@Thoracius
Very nice and visual, thanks! Strange the virt analogue doesn’t morph into syn also!
Excellent video.
Bad on arturia for the flip flopping parameter naming and the use of those silly beakers instead of a simple oscilloscope view...
Excellent video!!
Great video 👍. I need to dust off my MicroFreak and try these out.
Great synth. The oscillator section is sometimes a little counter-intuitive but once you get the hang of it it makes sense.
What is the wave visualiser you are using? Could be helpful for a synth n00b like me to see a good representation.
Hey yeah definitely. It's Melda. The link is in the video description.
Interesting, keep going 💞
This is a very interesting lesson. Thanks brotha 😊
Awesome!
Thx bro
Ive heard/read that one can run 35 modulations at once via the matrix....so, has any mad-ass-synthesist tried this?!?! :D :P
