What a fantastic review. Excellent job and excellent representation of your band. Great work man. Love that guitar.
Appreciate it immensely brother!
Excellent review!
Just bought a PAF 7 and look forward to installing it especially after watching this.
Thanks for the vid! I've been trying to find some reviews on this before i commit to it and haven't been able to find any. This was perfect!
Great playing as well. I'll definitely be checking out your band!
Thank you very much dude! Really appreciate all the support, glad i could help!
Dude your videos are great. Flawless reviews
The eq breakdown was awesome, more guitar players should see this video.
I need this guitar. Sold! Thanks for sharing your new guitar my dude!
awesome video, very tempted by one of these now ...
wasn't looking to buy this exact model, yet very great video !
Great demo!
Nice and very helpful review!
Awesome vid. I'm interested in the 6 string model and it seems that if the ERG version is good, usually the standard is as well. Great tones and playing. Very informative. Thanks, m8!
Excellent analysis.
great view, this guitar is gorgeous! Now i must decide if i'll go for 6 or 7 version. Thanks!
great review dude ! A lot of people who review gear waste sooo much time reading the specs off the internet which, if you even found this video you already probably know about .. I like that you actually give your own opinion of this guitar, and the pickup frequency part was a nice touch
Thanks dude! Totally agree, most of the reviews drag on about simple stuff that you can find on goggle within 10 seconds. I always think videos that exemplify the sonic properties of the gear, hardware, instruments are always far more interesting and informative. Glad you liked it and that I could help out! (Y)
i got mine and sure enough its a very comfortable guitar..plays smoothly..awsome..
This review is great! I am still deciding on a 7 and can't decide between this Ibanez, the schecter km7, or the Chapman ml7 t...so many choices!!! ( but I absolutely love the finished top of bubinga)
Thank you very much man, glad i could help! Ive heard lots of great things about Chapman guitars but never tried one so can't rlly give my verdict. I just feel Ibanez are trying to re-achieve the quality of their builds from way back when they were first making 7's in the late 80's-early 90's. This guitar proves they may be due for a comeback :). Let me know which you decide to get tho!
Amazing video! After watching this i think I'm gonna buy a PAF 7 set. for a low output pickup you got them sounding really brutal. but just saying, if they sound thin or weak because of the ceramic mags, you can always just boost the mids and bass on your POD settings a bit and it'll sound a bit fuller. but great video!
That's one of the one's I've been looking at, but all the reviews said the PAF's sounded bad. I guess they didn't know what they were doing? Thanks for this video, because that guitar looks and sounds beautiful.
Anytime dude! The whole PAFs thing is still an on-going dilemma for me. I am so used to the BKP aftermaths and Nailbombs and the PAFs sound much weaker in comparison, but they are lower output pickups. However I just tracked some guitars for our new record and strangely enough they sit so nicely in mixes right off the bat. I think if you already have a guitar with better, higher-output pickups, then keep this guitar with the PAF's because they give you variety and options to choose from. Hands down tho, the pickups absolutely shine on clean guitars. Hope that helped!
Very nice review, thanks!
Welcome brotha! Glad to help :)
I just ordered this today. I read the specs, heard you play it and comment on it. Im sold, perfect guitar.
as someone else who also owns this thing, i cant tell you enough how happy youll be with it.
Congrats dude! Stoked that I could help you out to the point of purchase. I fall in love with this guitar more and more everyday. It's hands down one of the most reliable and comfortable guitars I've ever played. Put up and video and let's see the grain of wood you got, show that bad boy off! hahah
coatofarmsband it's supposed to be in this Friday or next Monday. I will definitely post a video and link it man. I'm very excited about the wood grain as well. Thanks for being so cool man!
Aaron Wright Agree 100%. What tuning are you guys running these on out of curiosity?
coatofarmsband I'm probably going to run a Periphery tuning like Ab for a while. Me and my friend Brian are going to try to learn all our favorite Periphery songs this summer and record them with jam up pro. Just to get our chops up for a prog/groove metal band.
Sweetwater just had me buy one tooo....man i can't wait !!!
Very helpful video
That's a beautiful guitar and she sounds HUGE! Thanks for the vid mate :)
Thanks dude, super stoked with it! :D Gonna be posting some more videos of it very soon!
You're welcome my fellow Ibanez guitarist! I'm looking at either that one, a UV70p which is AMAZING or a KoRn signature 7 string when I do decide to buy one.
I was rlly diggin the new Head custom Korn guitar. Simple but seems solid as rock.
Yes I like that one too. The KOMRAD 20. What a good name he chose for it - symbolises their 20th anniversary and his guitar has definitely been his comrade from day one. It has the same pickups as your guitar if I'm not mistaken - the PAF7's...
Munky's Apex 200 has the Dimarzio Blaze pups which are pretty awesome.
Yeah dude completely agree. Should be uploading a playthrough of this guitar middle of next week! Stay tuned for it cuz the pickups purr :)
I couldn't decide on pickups for my first 7 string guitar. I knew I didn't want something SUPER high power and I was wary of keeping the low end still tight (I had heard bad things about the Tone Zone7 in that aspect). When I saw that the J-Custom guitars (as well as many of these new high-end prestiges etc.) have the PAF7, I said "Good enough for them, good enough for me!" and I have been very pleased!
Totally agree with you man. 5 minutes into playing with the guitar I was not a fan of the pickups because I was so used to the BKP sound. However once you get a better understanding of how to milk the PAF-7s to the way they respond, they are killer pups. I was thinking of replacing them with Blackhawks, but completely changed my mind. I have used this guitar for at least half of the songs on the new record, which is high praise considering the options were a Skervesen Raptor Custom 7 and an Ibanez RG1527 Prestige! Which guitar did you get with the PAF-7s?
coatofarmsband Haha, nothing special. It's just your standard RG-7321. It is my cheapest guitar (and I didn't even know if I'd like using a 7). I want to try installing GraphTech Ghost Piezo system in it and I don't have another fixed bridge with a usable bridge for them (I think your bridge could work too). And if I screw up too bad, it's at least a cheap guitar. I got a lot of inspiration from this
www.sevenstring.org/forum/sevenstring-org-workbench/7162-tech-rg7321-piezo-install.html
thank you helped me alot!
Anytime man :) (Y)
It sounds so crisp
thanks for the info friend..
Anytime brother!
First off great video! But I had a question. I've been looking at the iron label ibanez guitars for a while and I know that I want passive pickups so I was wondering does the model you've played come in neck-thru? Thanks for the video, keep em' coming.
Excellent review! I have a question sir. You mentioned that the pickups sound a bit weak...Do you find the pickups to be too weak for solos/leads?I often like to play leads on the bridge pickup so i was worrying that the paf7 may be a bit weak for soloing...
Thank you!
Great guitar, playing, and sound. I would suggest a string mute behind the nut as you can hear that high-pitched ring. I like the Jimmy Clip
They sound great! Would you recommend a PAF 7 in the neck when pairing with a heavier bridge pickup or something else? Have you ever played an Air Norton 7 or any other lower output Dimarzio in the neck with a Super Distortion 7 or X2N7? Great playing by the way!
i want that eebanez
I just bought this guitar and i cant find a switch diagram anywhere. Do you know what each position does? Thank you.
After living with the Pickups for a while, how do you feel about them now. For metal.?
I have just got an RG752LWFX-HAB with PAF 7s. I find them a bit on the classic rock side of things. Thinking of swapping them for Ionizer 7s.
Interested to hear your thoughts.!
You have a five way selector switch but you only showed two pick up positions. Does this new model of the S Series Iron Label 7 String still have coil taps?
I figured that the PAF 7's would be the best bet if I wanted to try jazz or more classic rock tones.
The body is so thin, does it have neck dive problem??
How do you feel about the Scale Length? I love my Damien Elite series 26.5" neck length. Does it help/impede you?
Also, your video helped sway me into buying a 6 string Iron Label, so cheers!
Thats fantastic dude, congrats on the guitar! You upload any videos of it yet?! Which one? Glad I could help :D.
One of the reasons I went with this guitar is because of the scale length. It is slightly more time consuming and challenging to get the guitar to hold lower gauge tunings because it has a lightly shorter scale length. But because my fingers are slightly short I typically need shorter scale lengths, so naturally I find it super comfortable. However from my personal experience, everybody else who has played with it in the studio has said that because of the newer slimmer neck profile, the scale length is surprisingly more comfortable than they expected, and their guitars are 26.5" too!
For anybody who's interested; the video playthrough for this guitar is now up
ua-cam.com/video/UIQQIt8UATQ/v-deo.html
this is one of the greatest guitar reviews i have ever seen! thank you
thanks, you're too kind!
Think you could share that first clean patch??
One of my favorite things about doing low end tunings is the pur you get from muting the strings after you hit a chord, and it causes the amps low end to be pushed very hard. Yet you say it doesn't get the "woof," but I am wondering, is this woof the same noise and the massive low end response given by some guitars and pickups? I don't want it to be overbearing and break any windows, but I just want it to be loud and bassy enough to sound heavy as fuck, while still maintaining sonic integrity. Do these pickups get that pur, or is it a relatively midsy guitar?
I know what you mean. I was referring more to the lower frequencies that are occupied by bass guitars and kicks etc. You can achieve that bass-heavy feel by cutting out the sub-low frequencies at the same time. These pickups actually have a good amount of bass, and purr quite well. You'd be surprised.
i just got my torpedo live but iam having problem with connecting it with scarlett 2i2 interface and iam using hd pro x for amp simulation.the manual suggest to connect spdif output to interface but i dont have spdif in my interface and right now im hooking the torpedo line out straight to my interface input but the interface is making lot of extra noise n the sound quality is not that great, have you got any better ideas cos i saw you using torpedo cab with hd pro on other video,
Hey dude, I also have a Torpedo LIVE and I connect via the line input on my sound interface. You might have to try bringing the preamp/level gain down on the interface as the signal will be quite loud and compressed. If you are not alrdy, try sliding an NS-2 or ISP decimator in your chain to take out any of the noise.
coatofarmsband oh thats why the interface was making weird noise, thank you so much for the info,i will do that until i get an interface with spdif in and out.cheers!
Is the whole guitar well balanced? Does the neck dip? The reason I ask is because the body seems so skinny that the neck will be heavier which may causing it to dip.
Yes its extremely well balanced because the neck and fretboard are quite lightweight themselves. Sound wise, it also had a fair bit of bottom end weight to it considering the body is so thin.
Could you share your guitar patch via Customtone? Thanks =)
Where did you get that hoodie from, I love it :)
Compared to any other 7 string that you have played, do you experience any lack of tone because of the thin body? Cant decide between RG 7 string or S 7 string
I was worried about this initially but after speaking to some ibanez representatives, they've explained they opted to use better resonating wood, but less of it than as others with more wood of lesser resonating quality. I have an RG 1527 and I find no difference in quality, only character. If base ur opinion of the shape on comfort than sound in this case. Hope that helps!
This argument goes on endlessly, but the amount of tone/sustain received from wood type in an electric instrument is negligible to the point of being pretty much moot. Acoustic? Plays a HUGE roll. Electric? All in the pickups and what interacts with them magnetically
What does your signal chain look like?
i really want this guitar..i know its made in indonesia, seems the quality and the way it was built, seems they did a good job on this,,i need input,,i want to buy one.what your opinon on this guitar?
Hands down one of the most comfortable guitars I've ever played. The PAF-7's can feel a little weak at times, but the guitar itself is an absolute bargain for the price.
I just put up a playthrough if you're curious how it sounds with everything

Ibanez Iron Label 8-string RGIR28FE / EMG 2014

thanks dude this is great music :)
nice eebanez
Do they have a six string model
Yep. They do.
how much did you pruchase thie beauty?
$999 from sweetwater!
cool..thanks again..
howre ya tuned with it?
oh and how does it hold tune? standard tuners and all..
what tuning are you in?
looks standard with the 7th string drop tuned to A
Only if the scale length was 27" ! I'd get it without second guessing.
*****
I meant seven-string.
That guitar has great sustain for a guitar the size of an iPad!
That guitar is so sexy, I swear. Very nice.
how are the harmonics? do they sound very pronounced or just meh?
Do you mean the pinched harmonics or the natural harmonics that resonate and are picked up from the guitar?
both. sorry, should of specified :p
Pinch harmonics are super easy to squeal out, and the natural harmonics of the guitar are bright and bassy, with a slight midscoop. It's brilliant with warm cleans and a rlly aggressive high gain tone.
thank you so much for the fast replies. I have one more question though, do you think they would sound good in a strat? I'm torn between this or the dimarzio tone zone.
I suppose it would, you'll just have to double the woods that make the guitar. Different woods will produce natural tones and harmonics.
whats an eebanez
+Ben Davis Sweet vid m8
+Ben Davis Technically, that's the correct way of saying it. It's Spanish, even though the company is Japanese.
What was that fucking badass riff in your intro?
It's "Black Holes" off my band Coat of Arms' latest record called "Sun & Satellites".
You can find it on bandcamp here;

Glad you liked it! :D :D
Munky uses Blaze pickups, which is what comes stock in the Ibanez Universe series. Good review tho mang

Hey Graham,
To be honest I'm thinking of keeping them in, purely for variety sake. I have BKP aftermaths and Nailbombs in my other guitars, as well a Suhr Aldrige pickup with my Fender 6. However the PAF-7's do not sound like any of them and I feel, for metal, they have a fantastic edge to their sound for slower groovier playing. For faster playing styles I think the high end of the pickups can get annoying and almost squeaky, but I will be using it on our new record for the slower more pronounced riffs. In all honesty, if i didnt have the other guitars with those pickups and I had to solely rely on this guitar, the pickups would have been replaced alrdy. Thats as honest as answer I can give you brother! Hope that helped!
coatofarmsband excellent man, cheers for the reply.! The Pickups sound pretty good, not what I want out of a 7 string tho. Duncan Pegasus/Sentient set Enroute.
Thanks again and keep it real.!
