    great review dude ! A lot of people who review gear waste sooo much time reading the specs off the internet which, if you even found this video you already probably know about .. I like that you actually give your own opinion of this guitar, and the pickup frequency part was a nice touch

      Thanks dude! Totally agree, most of the reviews drag on about simple stuff that you can find on goggle within 10 seconds. Thank you very much man, glad i could help! Ive heard lots of great things about Chapman guitars but never tried one so can't rlly give my verdict. I just feel Ibanez are trying to re-achieve the quality of their builds from way back when they were first making 7's in the late 80's-early 90's. This guitar proves they may be due for a comeback :). Let me know which you decide to get tho!

    Amazing video! After watching this i think I'm gonna buy a PAF 7 set. for a low output pickup you got them sounding really brutal. but just saying, if they sound thin or weak because of the ceramic mags, you can always just boost the mids and bass on your POD settings a bit and it'll sound a bit fuller. but great video!

  • @TheLegendaryManChild
    @TheLegendaryManChild 10 років тому +2

    That's one of the one's I've been looking at, but all the reviews said the PAF's sounded bad. I guess they didn't know what they were doing? Thanks for this video, because that guitar looks and sounds beautiful.

    • @coatofarmsband
      @coatofarmsband  10 років тому +1

      Anytime dude! The whole PAFs thing is still an on-going dilemma for me. I am so used to the BKP aftermaths and Nailbombs and the PAFs sound much weaker in comparison, but they are lower output pickups. However I just tracked some guitars for our new record and strangely enough they sit so nicely in mixes right off the bat. I think if you already have a guitar with better, higher-output pickups, then keep this guitar with the PAF's because they give you variety and options to choose from. Hands down tho, the pickups absolutely shine on clean guitars. Hope that helped!

      Yes I like that one too. The KOMRAD 20. What a good name he chose for it - symbolises their 20th anniversary and his guitar has definitely been his comrade from day one. It has the same pickups as your guitar if I'm not mistaken - the PAF7's...
      Munky's Apex 200 has the Dimarzio Blaze pups which are pretty awesome.

  • @GuillermoSmyser

    I couldn't decide on pickups for my first 7 string guitar. I knew I didn't want something SUPER high power and I was wary of keeping the low end still tight (I had heard bad things about the Tone Zone7 in that aspect). When I saw that the J-Custom guitars (as well as many of these new high-end prestiges etc.) have the PAF7, I said "Good enough for them, good enough for me!" and I have been very pleased!

    • @coatofarmsband
      @coatofarmsband  9 років тому

      Totally agree with you man. 5 minutes into playing with the guitar I was not a fan of the pickups because I was so used to the BKP sound. However once you get a better understanding of how to milk the PAF-7s to the way they respond, they are killer pups. I was thinking of replacing them with Blackhawks, but completely changed my mind. I have used this guitar for at least half of the songs on the new record, which is high praise considering the options were a Skervesen Raptor Custom 7 and an Ibanez RG1527 Prestige! Which guitar did you get with the PAF-7s?

    • @GuillermoSmyser
      @GuillermoSmyser 9 років тому

      coatofarmsband Haha, nothing special. It's just your standard RG-7321. It is my cheapest guitar (and I didn't even know if I'd like using a 7). I want to try installing GraphTech Ghost Piezo system in it and I don't have another fixed bridge with a usable bridge for them (I think your bridge could work too). And if I screw up too bad, it's at least a cheap guitar. I got a lot of inspiration from this

    Excellent review! I have a question sir. You mentioned that the pickups sound a bit weak...Do you find the pickups to be too weak for solos/leads?I often like to play leads on the bridge pickup so i was worrying that the paf7 may be a bit weak for soloing...

    How do you feel about the Scale Length? I love my Damien Elite series 26.5" neck length. Does it help/impede you?

    • @coatofarmsband
      @coatofarmsband  9 років тому

      Thats fantastic dude, congrats on the guitar! You upload any videos of it yet?! Which one? Glad I could help :D.
      One of the reasons I went with this guitar is because of the scale length. It is slightly more time consuming and challenging to get the guitar to hold lower gauge tunings because it has a lightly shorter scale length. But because my fingers are slightly short I typically need shorter scale lengths, so naturally I find it super comfortable. However from my personal experience, everybody else who has played with it in the studio has said that because of the newer slimmer neck profile, the scale length is surprisingly more comfortable than they expected, and their guitars are 26.5" too!

    One of my favorite things about doing low end tunings is the pur you get from muting the strings after you hit a chord, and it causes the amps low end to be pushed very hard. Yet you say it doesn't get the "woof," but I am wondering, is this woof the same noise and the massive low end response given by some guitars and pickups? I don't want it to be overbearing and break any windows, but I just want it to be loud and bassy enough to sound heavy as fuck, while still maintaining sonic integrity. Do these pickups get that pur, or is it a relatively midsy guitar?

    • @coatofarmsband
      @coatofarmsband  10 років тому

      I know what you mean. I was referring more to the lower frequencies that are occupied by bass guitars and kicks etc. You can achieve that bass-heavy feel by cutting out the sub-low frequencies at the same time. These pickups actually have a good amount of bass, and purr quite well. You'd be surprised.

    i just got my torpedo live but iam having problem with connecting it with scarlett 2i2 interface and iam using hd pro x for amp simulation.the manual suggest to connect spdif output to interface but i dont have spdif in my interface and right now im hooking the torpedo line out straight to my interface input but the interface is making lot of extra noise n the sound quality is not that great,have you got any better ideas cos i saw you using torpedo cab with hd pro on other video,

    • @coatofarmsband
      @coatofarmsband  9 років тому

      Hey dude, I also have a Torpedo LIVE and I connect via the line input on my sound interface. You might have to try bringing the preamp/level gain down on the interface as the signal will be quite loud and compressed. If you are not alrdy, try sliding an NS-2 or ISP decimator in your chain to take out any of the noise.

    • @ray1ashwin
      @ray1ashwin 9 років тому

      coatofarmsband oh thats why the interface was making weird noise,thank you so much for the info,i will do that until i get an interface with spdif in and out.cheers!

    Is the whole guitar well balanced? Does the neck dip? The reason I ask is because the body seems so skinny that the neck will be heavier which may causing it to dip.

    • @coatofarmsband
      @coatofarmsband  10 років тому

      Yes its extremely well balanced because the neck and fretboard are quite lightweight themselves. Sound wise, it also had a fair bit of bottom end weight to it considering the body is so thin.

    • @coatofarmsband
      @coatofarmsband  10 років тому

      I was worried about this initially but after speaking to some ibanez representatives, they've explained they opted to use better resonating wood, but less of it than as others with more wood of lesser resonating quality. I have an RG 1527 and I find no difference in quality, only character. If base ur opinion of the shape on comfort than sound in this case. Hope that helps!

    • @TheSwampPrince
      @TheSwampPrince 6 років тому

      This argument goes on endlessly, but the amount of tone/sustain received from wood type in an electric instrument is negligible to the point of being pretty much moot. Acoustic? Plays a HUGE roll. Electric? All in the pickups and what interacts with them magnetically

      Hey Graham,
      To be honest I'm thinking of keeping them in, purely for variety sake. I have BKP aftermaths and Nailbombs in my other guitars, as well a Suhr Aldrige pickup with my Fender 6. However the PAF-7's do not sound like any of them and I feel, for metal, they have a fantastic edge to their sound for slower groovier playing. For faster playing styles I think the high end of the pickups can get annoying and almost squeaky, but I will be using it on our new record for the slower more pronounced riffs. In all honesty, if i didnt have the other guitars with those pickups and I had to solely rely on this guitar, the pickups would have been replaced alrdy. Thats as honest as answer I can give you brother! Hope that helped!
