Mark Lowry was a member of the Gaither Vocal Band, for many years, and he wrote the lyrics to this amazing song!

Mark Lowry wrote these lyrics and he sang with the Gaither Family Band with David Phelps. I think you kind of missed the impact of his super long note because you paused so many times. Voctave is incredible. The gentleman on the far left does their arrangements. So much talent.

Slight correction, it’s the Gaither Vocal Band.

Pastor, so glad you reacted to this one. Be sure to go back and listen again without pausing to soak in the lyrics, harmonies and dynamics - I trust it will encourage you and bring you joy in our Saviour. ✝️
They have so many beautiful Christmas carols (and songs) but the next two MUSTS are:
The Prince of Egypt Medley (audio only but you won’t care), and You Will Be Found.
To see what each member can do their Disney Princess Medley features the women and Heroes & Villains, the men.
Prepare to be amazed! Voctave’s God-given talent will shine through.

Lots to tell you about Voctave pronounced Voc Tive like octive. Almost all of them have worked at Disney Land in Flordia singing in The Voices of Liberty and other groups together. Hence, their wall of sound and precise cut offs and harmonies. Please lots more Voctave which stands for their 5 octave range among the group. They have all sung together for years which shows. Check out their Oh Holy Night and many other Christmas and Disney songs.

Mark Lowry started singing when he was 11 years old. In his 20's became a part of The Gaither Vocal Band and was with them for around 20 years. He wrote the words to Mary Did you Know and a few years later corroborated with Buddy Greene from the Gaithers on the music for this amazing song. Mark lives in Texas.

Mark's last name is pronounced as if you were going to say, "loud." I have been in love with Voctave (pronounced as if you were going to say, "octave") for years, now. They are SO good!
Mark wrote this song. Five years ago, he made a wonderful video called "Mary Did You Know? Well did she?" ua-cam.com/video/C_noIT-qGSA/v-deo.htmlsi=PjCSM8_FUb8XFoPg
One of the things I really like about him (and I've loved him for a long time, now, too), is his quirky sense of humor. He was a really bright spot for a lot of people throughout the lockdown days in a lot of places.
    Thanks for sharing. 😀

Great reaction! Liked and Subscribed! Also, thank you for your excellent Biblical commentary! Voctave does some amazing Christmas music and a wide variety of other genres of music. Other goosebump-inducing songs from Voctave include: Oh Come, All Ye Faithful (Christmas Classic), All is Well (the beautiful Michael W Smith song about the birth of Jesus Christ), and This is My Wish/Let There Be Peace on Earth. and O Holy Night (another Christmas classic). The Voctave rabbit hole is very deep and very satisfying!

I was introduced to mark when I was in elementary school as a Christian Comedian. He wad so funny. I had no idea he could sing until I started seeing clips on Facebook with the Gaither Band. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Mark wrote “Mary did you know”. Thanks for this reaction and I wish the best. See you in the next one. 👊🏻👋

Mark, indeed wrote the lyrics sometime in the 80s. The words are what he would ask Mother Mary if he ever sat down with her for tea.

Pastor James, I appreciate after your reaction was over that you kicked into your pastoral role and gave some scriptures about the Lord Jesus Christ. HOWEVER, you missed getting the full effect of the emotional climax and tapering off of the song to its conclusion by your early emotional exit from the song. FIVE times you interrupted "the praises of the Lamb" and Mark's hugely long, sustained note (6 measures of 4/4 time!! - 24 "beats") to comment about the background singers! You did add in a bit about Mark's long note but then with the concluding words of the song and the musical run-out to the end, wherein you were actually surprised that there was more, you mentally departed the performance and kicked in with your follow-up thoughts!! Why did you not go back and listen WITHOUT interruption(!) to "the praises of the Lamb" and the FULL finish of their piece, including the delicate interplay of harmonies after the words were done?!!?? You did not give yourself nor us a chance to marvel at "the praises of the Lamb" that contained such richness! I've always felt the Holy Spirit's presence in this song and especially that enriched moment, so am surprised that as a pastor you didn't honor the Spirit's presence and "blessing" until the very end and to have appreciated without interruption the emotional peak of this song. Wish there would be some way you could go back and rectify this fumble. Just some thoughts from your brother in faith.
