I've had my CDL nearly 20 years and I am just now starting to get into the industry. I obtained my CDL training through the military where FL accepted my military license and issued a FL CDL for me. I've always held onto my CDL and completed DOT physicals every 2 years even though I didn't need to. Now that I'm in the midst of a career change, I'm glad I always held onto it. For me, driving truck is like riding a bicycle, a skill I haven't forgot, but now I have to learn the ways of the commercial trucking industry... we'll see how it turns out. 😬

So many great young owner operators out here, just not enough limelight on them. So much great potential outweighed by a few bad apples. I feel the industry is in fairly good hands moving forward.
Seeing younger drivers in this day and age is a sigh of relief for me being 22 and just about to get my CDL. There’s not a whole ton of people documenting their start at such a young age so makes it seem like I’m not the only one.
My advice to young truckers in early 20s is to stay single. You need to have the least amount of reasons to go home as possible. Worrying about some young hot thang running around on you while your gone can end your trucking career pretty quickly. Start your trucking career single and hit the road. Get yourself totally OK with not making it home and staying out on the road. Your truck is your home. Get rid of as much home expense as possible too. Get rid of the car payments and so on. Run the roads and put all the money in your pocket! In a few years you will be WAY ahead. You can buy your own truck with CASH.
I’m 18 and I got my class 1 in Canada earlier this month working for a good company they are gonna put me in one of their trucks right away and I hope to buy my own truck with in the next few years
I started driving at 19 for a small company, bought my first truck at 20 (been around trucking my whole life) I was doing LTL 20+ stops a day with 45-53 footers you gotta take what you can get when your young and stick it out to get experience, I now haul cars at 23 which is hard to do because most companies want you to be 25 to haul cars so it’s also about who you know.
Smart kid, "if you"re gonna fail do it now while your young worst thing you could lose is money".... i always wished i would've started younger i always had it in my head but it took me until i was 29 to finally get my CDL and now i'm gonna be 35 in a few weeks and it's the best decision i ever made. A lot of comments about the seat height. It's an interview, he's not driving down the road people, he's sitting in a truck stop gabbing with someone. The Bostrom seat is probably the best one out there (one I wished I'd spring the money for) as far as driver comfort goes. The seat is air ride and the height can be raised with a push of a button.

We need to get together all the youth owner operator
I agree ! I’d love to bring the young owner operators that are out here together somehow
I love American Rigs, I’ve been trucking for 10 years across Europe, but I don’t think I could get on with how low the seating position is, I like to be high and seeing the road and trailer, I’d actually find that really difficult sitting on the floor
How in the hell can you even see over the dash? You wouldn't drive anything of mine sitting that low....
19 with a class A driving tractor trailer every day saving to buy my own truck when I'm 21
